Yes, I watch Deadliest Catch (starting tonight BTW) and Ice Road Truckers (although my wife likes that one more than me), and even shows like Flying Wild Alaska, but these shows about logging, and now even mining (apparently churned out by the same people who produced all the others and airing on Spike, I think)... they just seem to be obvious knock-offs of the original, but they don't quite have the mystique or interesting stories of the originals.

Like everything in entertainment, someone hits on a popular subject and everyone races to cash in on the Next Big Thing, eventually watering down the original premise and losing the plot. Which is how you get a reality show about extreme couponing.

I'm sure this is a common inner ear problem but whats this mean,

I have a feeling like there is wind blowing in both ears. It's similar to like say... when a semi truck is rolling to a stop and they hit their E-brake and it makes that loud, rumbling noise. It's kind of like that vibration, but very dull, very subtle in my ear constantly. That's kind of where I get the wind feeling in my ear.

Verizon Wireless question. Is this allowed?

Two phone lines. Line A is eligible for upgrade now. Line B is eligible in July. I have been thinking about getting the Iphone 4 right now, and then selling it on Ebay as the 5 got closer and use my backup in the gap between. Then using the Line B to get the iPhone 5. What I was planning on then doing was buying a phone full retail with the proceeds from the iPhone 4 sale on ebay and then the phone I buy full retail would be activated on Line A.

Basically, can a line that is in the midst of a 2 year contract use a phone that I buy full retail in the midst of it, or can full retail phones only be used for month-to-month.

I am on a family share plan with all 5 of my family members and my mother is adament that my plan won't work. Please help me shut my 60 year old mother up. ( I love her)

EDIT: When you go to Verizon and click to buy a phone, it asks Pricing For and you have two options, Month-to-Month or 2 year contract. I would assume that's what is throwing her off? Or am I absolutely wrong?

I just got the Verizon iPhone. They told me if I don't activate the phone within 30 days, I will be charged the full price of the phone. So not sure how much of a profit you would make by selling the phone on ebay if you don't actually activate it. It sounds like you want to sell it as soon as you get it?

I got my iphone on a line that was eligible for the discount, but, I activated it on my line. Just don't hook it up to a computer and itunes though until you have activated it on the line you want it on. Why? Because I did just that. However, when I called Verizon customer service to fix my error, they were totally cool and it only took about 5 minutes to do it.

I am also on a family share plan that originally had 4 lines, it has only 2 now.

I don't know about using a full retail purchased phone and activating it on a line that is in the middle of a 2 year contract. However, I don't think Verizon would care what phone is attached to that line as long as you honor the 2 year contract. That's just me guessing though.

Doing work at a college now, the fact that they all look like high school freshmen to me probably belongs in the too old thread.

That said, whats up with the latest jeans fashion out there. Like their baggy, but only vertically in the ass/crotch. Everywhere else they fit normal. It looks like everyone is shitting their pants and walking around fully loaded.

In one week, my final exams for my final semester of university are starting.

I've already signed a contract to start working once I'm done; all I need to do is pass all my classes. But I've never had my motivation so low. I'm completely unable to start studying.

I've been horrified to discover that I wasted my youth watching shit like the A-Team, My Two Dads, and Cagney & Lacey when I coulda been watching TJ Hooker. Most '80s crap doesn't hold up so well upon re-investigation, but MAN that TJ Hooker is some good shit. And by good I mean laughably, ludicrously horrible.

Seriously, why was I watching Cagney & Lacey as a ten year old boy?

I've got a friend (well, business acquaintance really) who has spent most of the day Tweeting/Facebooking updates from the delivery room. I can report that his wife is now fully dilated and the pushing is underway.

My wife would have killed me dead if I whipped out my Android twice an hour during labor.

Is he the kind of guy that when he has guests over, he would show every one the video of the birth?

Maybe it's not worse since it's the weird kind of thing expected from moms on facebook, but when I was in the delivery room with lurker (my wife), my mom was texting me asking for updates, and I gave them to her, not realizing she was going to put them on facebook.

This whole "faxing the prescription to the pharmacy" thing probably works a lot better if the doctor's office actually, you know, faxes the fucking prescription.

{shrug} Couldn't tell you, don't have to fill a new one very often. However the last 3 or 4 I've filled have all been traditional take-the-paper-to-the-drugstore ones.

But what I've learned from past experiences farther back is that anything other than walking them in yourself only seems to work about 1 time in 4. The rest turn into the ricockulous clusterfuck that prompted me to post here.

So much of my time each day is wasted waiting for people to fax in prescriptions. Plus the DEA cracked down on shit so hard that they can't fill anything without a faxed in script from a doctor. I believe calling it in, and later sending it in was previously sufficient.

And it's basically pulling teeth to get doctor's offices to do shit.

They are broadcasting live from across the street of the arena. The discussion started because there will be a Lemieux statue at some point at the arena.

This got me curious, I hadn't looked into any of this stuff since I worked at a healthcare clearinghouse in about 2004. At the time E-Prescribing was covered by state law and only about 15 states allowed it.

As of late 2006, all 50 states had passed laws allowing E-Prescribing. About 80% of pharmacies in the country have software support for e-prescribing, but I am having trouble finding any numbers on how many physicians are using it. On the provider side of things it looks like E-Prescribing is a service offered by EMR(Electronic Medical Record) software vendors. I know we've had threads about EMRs in the past and we had a doctor or two with a lot of experience and opinions on the whole thing, maybe one of them reads this

DrFirst Makes Access to E-Prescribing Of Controlled Substances Technology Available to 160 HIT Vendor Partners Nationwide Through EPCS Goldâ„¢

I found that from March of this year on e-prescribing of controlled substances (codeine based meds, etc). That has been legal since June of 2010 so now basically all prescriptions may be e-prescribed, but there appear to be security barriers making it so that its not really being done today (lots of talk about biometrics to verify the doctor, but only in the case of controlled substances, which according to that article makes up "over 10% of all prescriptions" ... so I'm assuming up to 85% are fair game).

Healthcare technology remains decades behind every other industry so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that ya'll are having these problems... but damn am I disappointed by it.

It appears there are a number of incentive programs to encourage doctors to use e-prescribing and lots of studies done showing how doing so will save money, time, and in some cases lives by preventing errors when attempting to read doctor's handwriting on prescriptions. So yeah, of course its not being done, it makes too much sense.

My doctor e-prescribes. The whole office is networked, all doctors / nurses have netbooks with complete access to my medical records, etc. It's awesome.

As patient and affable as I usually am, I have started slowly trimming people and things out of my life. Unless I'm getting paid for it, if something makes my life any more difficult or complex than it needs to be, I'm pretty much done with it. I'm getting too old for this shit. On the other hand, if it makes my life fun or at least gives me a bath, I want more.

Mowing the lawn yesterday, I came across 5 dead bunnies. One (or both) of our dogs must have found the burrow and gotten a hold of them. Not good times.

Spring can start any day now. Got about an inch of snow on the ground right now and it is still falling.

We have a cereal killer in the house.

Cleaning the pantry yesterday, I came across 3 empty boxes. One (or both) of our kids must have found the shelf and gotten a hold of them. Not good times.

If it was Trix, it might have been my dogs.

Someone on my facebook page posted pictures of their son from a photo shoot on his first birthday. One of those pictures has him sitting, naked, back to the camera, with cowboy boots next to him. The next picture has him standing, back to the camera but twisted so you can see his face, naked again, except for this time, he's wearing the cowboy boots.

The parents must think it's cute now, but I imagine things will get a little awkward when he's taking these exact same shots for his 18th birthday.

That has been known to happen. At least it wasn't Lisa Lampanelli.
