This might be the funniest bit of board ignorance since Passacaglia admitted he didn't know what his user name meant.

It occurs to me, after browsing the current thread from Old Coach , and the one from 3 years ago, that the game seems almost identical. I would guess that the current "patching" process has been going on in a similar way for years, with new tweaks, fixes creating unforseen problems which leads to the next round of fixes which leads to......

Left unchecked, I could imagine patching continuing this way for another 20 years. Perhaps instead of a game, this is really an experiment in perpetual motion machines.

I can't help but feel that some of the betas on this game have been as much a problem as a help, they seem to be so intent on willing the game to work, they ignored the task of reporting the problems. Wishful thinking can go a long way toward imagining the game works. The fact that some of the people at Matrix are posting screenshots to show positives is remarkable.

Dunno where it was, but there was a link to another thread where a beta said no one tested multiplayer (as much as emailing files around can be multiplayer) and if one of the guys you're relying on to help balance the game insists on playing as though he's playing Statis Pro Football solo, then it leads to things like the safeties being OOB 3 years on. Nice to know though, provided you can call a defense especially designed to deal with the offensive play you're other personality just called, you'll get almost decent stats. At last! A game Sybil can enjoy.

This may be a clue why there is no chance of the game improving much

The only problem is the kicking and the punting so far

Either that person is insane, knows nothing at all about football, or is on some new Pfizer test program for the next combined hard-on/happy pill and suffering mild to serious side affects. Nothing wrong but kicking and punting?

It's one thing for a customer to be inane, but when the publicity guy from Matrix broke all sorts of rushing and passing stats the week the game went bronze-ish, then maybe someone, somewhere, should have considered that when that they didn't quite have the game they thought they would.

How does any team of betas not notice something as obvious as field goals worth 4 points or the clock not running and teams scoring 1000 points getting through even to the next public beta patch? Are they all just designing uniforms and trying to figure out how to move the safeties in the PDS?

Here's another candidate for professional help

Ugh! I keep telling people that this isn't nessessarly a bug here. I think the game is accounting sacks like they do in College Football

because as we all know, you're typical NCAA game has 15-20 sacks per team each week.

The game is going to be in continual revision until someone pulls the plug, because you just can't try and build a CFL game, then bolt on 2 entirely different styles of football you've confessed to know nothing about.

I have to admit, I've been fairly defensive of Matrix up to now, but they're ultimately responsible for the release, and have the experience of dropping titles, and limiting the time/money spent on fixing lemons. Someone there should have been smart enough to see that this game did not, and never will, simulate any type of football season and dropped the price to $20 for the sandbox style game it is. Instead, they demanded a career mode and added another year for a set of half assed features instead of fixing the core design (you know, something like the mind-bending, unsolvable problem of scheduling which has now been left to the invisible horde of 3rd party add-ons)

Maybe with $20 it would be acceptable to have stats dependent on frame rate, no way to simulate an entire week's games, and two radically different engines depending on how the game is simmed - all design features which don't need fixing.

What?

This just is not the way things are in the NFL and if Pro Football

Please show me, anywhere, where I claim this to be an NFL product?

Edit, actually, I've gone over my FAQ on the web page and nowhere does it even mention the world 'simulation' or "pro football simulator". The only reference to 'professional' and 'amature' is in regards to the size/style of the playing field.

Seriously, I have never once, ever in the complete history if this project claimed that I was intent on building an NFL or 'professional football' simulation game. If there is any reference to such a claim on the maximum-football website, or someplace on the matrix games site, I will take action to correct it and I appologise for the eronous information.

Did he ever claim he was building something good?

What about this? American Pro = NFL style right?

Yes, that is why I get so frustrated reading posts over there. They are not even attempting to beta test this product and they hate it when someone says something negative about the game (regardless of how much it may help it).

I don't know why this bothers me, but guys like MaximumFanBoy357 constantly claim it's not the game that's the issue, it's the evil people at FOFC - not that we're entirely innocent .

This is in respose to elmerlee

Now Elmerlee may be someone here, but I've never seen anyone here post under that name. But of course MaxFanBoy regularly sees him here bashing the game.
