Ana Marie Cox on Twitter: "Trump saying he wants "veto power" over the media. https://t.co/GcS0qHruJr"

... I'm just.. he really.. Veto power over the media? Halfway between laughing, and recoiling here, folks.

From 1992. Trump met a 10 yr old girl on an ET segment. After she left, he turned to the camera and said he'd be dating her in 10 years.

Honestly, Dutch, I'd rather someone else be the R's candidate too, because God help us the folks that support Trump aren't going to go away when he gets (probably) defeated, and he's going to leave a festering sore on politics.

Trump painted himself into a corner with that pre-debate stunt. Much harder for him to credibly attack women coming forward now.

Not really odd at all. Trump wasn't going to go to jail for that, so it's not really something I'd expect people to report to the police. It wasn't even something I'd have thought would've been considered newsworthy a month ago, but once Anderson Cooper put him on the spot and he unequivocally denied ever touching or kissing a woman without her consent in a widely watched debate of course there were going to be women coming out. I'm very skeptical of the re-filed rape allegation, but I am 0% surprised a man who talked with a stranger about women letting him kiss them because he was powerful kissed women without asking. (And it probably worked more often than anyone would like to admit, but nobody bats 1.000 when making moves on girls.)

To reach back decades in an attempt to smear Mr. Trump trivializes sexual assault, and it sets a new low for where the media is willing to go in its efforts to determine this election.

"It is absurd to think that one of the most recognizable business leaders on the planet with a strong record of empowering women in his companies would do the things alleged in this story, and for this to only become public decades later in the final month of a campaign for president should say it all.

"Further, the Times story buries the pro-Clinton financial and social media activity on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, reinforcing that this truly is nothing more than a political attack. This is a sad day for the Times.” - Jason Miller, Senior Communications Advisor

Fucking seriously.

Oh, and this is after the campaign said that all four women from Sunday's press conference will be having an hour long special on Fox News with Hannity.

That's an excellent point. The campaign is blaming the media, but the person they should blame is Trump himself. He knew this stuff was out there and it's clear he didn't tell them.

I see via Robert Costa that Trump's lawyers are attempting to "negotiate" with the New York Times to avoid a lawsuit.

"Ok, we won't sue, but you need to take it down".

"Nope." "

"Well then we won't sue but you need to adjust the story in ways A, B, and C"

"Uh-uh."

"Damnit, gimme something here, I gotta go back to Trump. Give me something to take back to him"

"How about the middle finger.. the one that reads "First Amendment"?"

LOL what are they going to negotiate? Let's say the NYTimes drops the story (they won't). Are they going to negotiate with the thousands of other media outlets who will immediately pick it up?

So, in the space of one day: Trump has:

Five women accusing him of groping/sexual assault.
Footage of him turning to a camera and saying "See that 10 year old? In a decade I'll be dating her"
Is currently threatening to sue everybody and anybody over the sexual assault allegations.
edit: Had a story comeout that he liked to barge into the changing room of the Miss Teen USA pageant without warning (with girls as young as 15 competing)

And we're still 26 days away from the election. I'm pretty sure it's going to get worse.. I don't know how (or really how it COULD get worse), but it will.

So, now the story is Trump pulling out of another state, this time Virginia. (trails by 9 and a half in the RCP polling average)

The campaign is going hard on FL, PA, OH, NC.

I think it's pretty close to rearranging deck chairs on the titanic while it's about to turn over myself, but if there's one word that describes politics, it's youneverknow

The NYT allegations piece is already generating backlash in my social media feed. The timing is too convenient, the credibility of the accusers seems to be nil if even only for the timing.

This one is purely fodder for his detractors, I don't see it having an iota of impact with supporters. The source simply has no credibility.

Jon, for his supporters, he could shoot someone and they'd eat it up. (probably say they were a Hillary plant/actor, etcetera)..

At this point however, the story isn't "Trump on the way to a comeback" or even "Hilary could still blow this", because Trump is like the proverbial fireworks factory on fire, random shots flying everywhere, and everyone runs and ducks for cover. And every time we think "Whew, it finally is over", WHOOSH, the Trump fire flares up again and dumps a new load of fireworks skyward.

edit: To stretch the metaphor a bit further, the rest of the GOP is stuck between "Ah, we need to get out of here before all these fireworks blow us to bits" and Trump's campaign saying "We're going to fire at you it you leave!"

The GOP is in do what they can to save the House mode right now.

Why Clinton Should Campaign for a Democratic Congress

Quote:
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Democrats leading by 10 points in the congressional generic ballot measuring which party voters support in House races. If that’s a solid trend rather than a blip, and Clinton’s own polling surge holds, a Democratic House is no longer a fantasy, though Republican gerrymandering and efforts to encourage ticket-splitting mean it’s still a bit of a long shot.

FWIW I agree with this. And while a massive part of the country is never going to accept a Hilary presidency having any legitimacy anyway, this doesn't help. Realistically Trump was done anyway. Now it just feels a little like the media piling on, and this is coming from someone who is firmly anyone but Trumpans would love to see the asshole lose by 15 points.

Right, but they have a choice: Support Trump and lose the middle, or dump trump and lose the base. There's really no good choice (other then, yes, "Please! come out or clinton will have a blank check" (and hope that the Trumpettes don't damn you for it)

I'd certainly need a better argument than timing to disbelieve women accusing a man of sexual assault who has specifically bragged about doing just that.

I don't know if the timing can be considered "convenient" when women come forward immediately after he says live on TV that he has never assaulted a woman.

Part of the problem is that the Democrats didn't recruit candidates in some of those winnable races, so while a 'generic' Democrat might have a +10 advantage, that doesn't mean enough of those middle-to-lower tier candidates in the suddenly-competitive races will get that boost.

That, and I strongly suspect that she might be an historical anomaly - a Presidential candidate who can win by double digits and still not move the needle in the House elections. She's got a pretty good shot at flipping the Senate, however temporarily, but I suspect there is a non-trivial part of her ultimate vote count that's going to be people who say "I'm going to vote for her because fuck that lizard-brained, orange-skinned jizztrumpet, but I'm not giving her the keys to the budget" and vote Republican anyway in the House races.

Just a hunch. Democrats will pick up seats in the House if she wins, but their ultimate seat count isn't going to come within a dozen of 218.

And actually the timing argument, if anything, makes it seem less likely to be manufactured. If this was some coordinated conspiracy, then why does it come out now when Hillary has her biggest leads of the campaign? Why didn't come out before the first debate when Trump had narrowed the lead and made it a very close race? Why wouldn't it come out closer to the 3rd debate when the polls likely would've narrowed at least a little bit?

It might have actually seemed MORE manufactured then. "She's in trouble, of COURSE her allies are throwing the kitchen sink at him."

Coming out now, it seems like piling on, yeah, but it's also less likely to look like the flails of desperation.

This one is purely fodder for his detractors, I don't see it having an iota of impact with supporters. The source simply has no credibility.

To be honest it sounds like the Trumpites are just closing their eyes, sticking fingers in their ears and sing 'LaLaLaLaLa' at this point.

Even Jon, who despite having views that many disagree with, is clearly very intelligent, seems to be so blinded against how mad it is that Trump has even got this far.
