Not sure what thread this really belongs in exactly so I'll just throw it here
Mark Emmert agrees that NCAA rule about food was 'absurd' - ESPN Maybe I'm misremembering but wasn't the origin of the food rules essentially the endless training table that existed at some (a lot?) of football factory type schools? Circa roughly the 70s, or even earlier? This reminds me quite a bit of how there used to be an "athletes dorm" at UGA and a lot of other places but concerns over that being some sort of unfair advantage led to it being abolished (whether by rule or school policy I honestly don't know off hand). In turn, discipline problems have multiplied considerably since that housing situation ended. Sort of a "unintended consequences" thing is the comparison I'm drawing here.

And the athletic dorms are coming back. They were expressly allowed in '10 and they are under construction everywhere.
The food thing...how long until Saban has a Ruth's Chris on campus? |
