Just to clarify, you there are two Minh Nguyens, right? There is Men the Master, who I as is my understanding is the one who was knocked out on day 1A, and the other guy, who has like $6,000 in career earnings and is one of the chip leaders on day 1D

We probably should have clarified, but I figured Quik and Timmy were taking Men the Master. Maybe it was an ingenius selection -- two for the price of one!

No, Minh Nguyen is Men Neguyen's cousin.

The colorful player named Men "the Master" Nguyen is spelled M-E-N, and is not part of this discussion. Minh Nguyen is another player, a cousin I'm told, who happens to share a similar, but not identical, name.

However... I believe there are indeed two (or more) Minh Nguyens who play poker and are listed in various databases, and it appears to me that the one who is among the chip leaders is *not* the same guy (but has the same name as) the guy who got blinded out on Day 1A.

Just to make this more confusing, I guess. In all candor, I think the 1A bust- out player is the guy that I personally had in mind. I'll gladly defer to the powers that be to determine what's what... and I'm willing to let slide the gigantic cash prizes being offered here in the name of fair play.

My apologies. I should have known better because I knew Men the Master had a cousin whose name was phoentically pronounced the same but spelled differently. When I looked up the CardPlayer bios and saw two Minh Nguyen's I incorrectly assumed one was The Master and the other was the cousin. Instead, there is Men "The Master" Nguyen, his cousin Minh Nguyen (eliminated 1A) and another guy named Minh Nguyen who may or may not be relation (a chip leader on 1D). Sorry for the confusion.

You're such a smart ass sometimes. How did Rick, Subby and Mali put up with you that long? Was it your ability to instantly open a tight jar of pickles with your hulk-like meat hooks? (wink)

Ted Forrest came back nicely for me. He was down to $6,000 chips early on. Him and Barry Greenstein seem to be my best hopes. Ivey, Ferguson, and Juanda need to double up quick today.

Is Minh Nguyen the guy who finished 2nd to Mark Seif when he won his 2nd bracelt in a row last year? That's the guy I have pictured in my head and I think I remember Men the Master watching the final table but I can't remember for sure.

Me also. The guy I meant with my pick was not Men the Master, but the relatively well-known of the Minh Nguyens. He has been on TV some and is a member of the Poker Host team along with Ted Forrest and Amir Vahedi.

No idea if he was the one blinded off or is still alive in the tournament or what, though.

Until I hear differently, I'm counting Minh Nguyen as the well known Minh Nguyen (not the Master, who is also still alive) and the person Quiksand and timmy picked. He's got a good tour record, and finished 11th in the main event in 2003. I've seen him quite a bit. I thought maybe there was a mixup in the time for him to play and it got fixed. Of course it's also likely there are two Minh Nguyen's. I'll try to find out for sure.

Good. Last I had heard, they were angling to do some stunt like an even $10m top prize, and the top 27 were getting a million -- which I think would have demeaned the top prize too much. Glad they backed off, at least a little.

WTF?

Tue Aug 01 14:21:00 PDT 2006
Men "The Master" Nguyen Eliminates Another
Men Nguyen raises preflop and his opponent goes all-in. Nguyen makes the call and shows AK. His opponent shows QJ. The board comes AQ8K5, and Men Nguyen eliminates an opponent, bumping his stack to $30,800.

Looking at the sketchy chip leader lists, why do I get the feeling the final table will be eight people I've never heard and Allen Cunningham?

I was actually saying WTF because I thought the Master had been blinded off earlier in the week.

Apparently they had his scheduled for 1B but his ticket really did say 1C -- it was their mistake, not his. So they let him play 1D as a fair compromise.

This is making my head hurt. Based on current information, here's the possible story:

Men "The Master" Nguyen played 1B, did well, and is raking it today during 2A.

Minh Nguyen, his cousin, was supposed to play 1A but was blinded off. This is who Quik and Timmy picked.

Minh Nguyen, of unknown familial status, played 1D, was among that day's chip leaders and will play during 2B.

There is the possibility that the CardPlayer database is wrong -- imagine the thought -- and the 1D Minh Nguyen is not the obscure Minh Nguyen with $6,000 in career winnings but is actually the more well known Minh Nguyen who was blinded off day 1A but was allowed to play again when apparently it was discovered that his ticket said another day. It's not entirely clear. There is also a random possibility that it is Henry Nguyen, who made a final table earlier this year series, because he's listed in the CardPlayer updates near the end with a big stack but not listed in the chip count.

So, it's possible that the Minh Nguyen on 1D is the same Minh Nguyen who was blinded off Day 1A.

Somebody should get a bracelet for figuring this shit out.

Looks like Annie Duke is still in. For some reason, I thought she got busted. I guess I got so used to that after her performance at all the other events. And apparently Hennigan busted or didn't even play, because I see nothing about him anywhere.

I'll have a full update for everyone in the morning.

Ok, I'm getting so many conflicting reports about so many different players. I think I'll just have to wait until after Day 2B is played. There will be a day off in between and I can get a clear picture of who is still in it and how many chips they officially have.
