Ahmad Carroll (from NFL.com)......I LIKE WHAT I READ

ANALYSIS
Positives: Well-built with long arms and solid overall muscle definition ? Very good athlete with tremendous quickness, speed, body control and change-of-direction agility ? Has an explosive closing burst and stays at a low pad level in transition, showing proper footwork and no wasted steps to instantly get on the ball ? Learns football well and takes pride in his work habits ? Tough competitor with a great personality (players talk highly of his work ethic) ? Can plant and redirect in a hurry, displaying that instant burst needed to suddenly close on the ball ? Excels at reaching around the receiver to break up the pass ? Has excellent deep speed and long acceleration ? Superb gunner on special teams, using his impressive speed to get downfield quickly to break up the wedge ? Very effective in man coverage, staying tight with the receiver while doing a good job of keeping track of the ball in flight ? Makes plays on the ball in the short area due to his ability to read the receiver's moves ? Can easily compete for the high pass, using his leaping ability to defeat his man for the ball ? Has good timing and hand/eye coordination, consistently getting his hand into the opponent's face ? Will make hard hits working in the box and is not afraid to take on the larger blockers in his short-area pursuit ? Possesses the natural hands to reach, pluck and secure the interception, showing a knack for tracking the ball over his shoulder ? Will stick his head into the pile to lend run support ? Can drive and close with ease ? Top-level athlete who is one of the fastest players in football ? Has the recovery speed needed to get to the receiver when beaten ? Has the body control to make good adjustments toward the ball in the air (very effective breaking up the pass).

Negatives: Likes to go low and throw a shoulder or grab and drag down as a tackler (needs wrap-up tackling refinement) ? Not a killer hitter, but will stick his hat in there to make the play ? Has amazing speed in his backpedal, but needs to stay in control and keep his body lower to get the most out of his tremendous acceleration (sometimes gets his feet tied up if he plays too upright) ? Must show better discipline handling combo routes (inconsistent with his eyes in zone coverage).

Dallas could also pick Greg Jones, a bigger power back.

This would make me very happy but big Greg is a second round talent...

I've been at work and am joining this thread late, but I love Philly's pick. Andrews could be a nice replacement for Runyan in a year or so. If he develops better then expected, he might even end up on the left side.

As far as the Rams pick, a lot of experts think Jackson was a top 10 guy. I don't see how you can pass on him considering Faulk's age and recent history of injuries. Great pick by them.

As far as Madden, I haven't seen any promos, but their logo is often in the bottom left corner of the screen as they discuss various picks.

Good point, i have never liked him much, and haven't heard many good things about him lately.........

Carroll, keep seeing/hearing "great work ethic" and comments like that, sounds good........hope it ends up looking good

If the Bengals wanted a running back they should have stayed with Steven Jackson. The extra fourth round pick isn't worth enough to justify taking Perry over Jackson. Dumbass move IMO.

We take a fucking running back just like I expected the one thing I didn't want us to do but felt we might.. so why not grab Kevin Jones? Instead we take Chris Perry from Shitigan, how can I ever like him? Yet again we add to our offense when defense is a bigger concern.

Typical.

sigh

We should have gotten a RB in the 2nd or 3rd. Why take a BACKUP for the 1st round? I'm fuming.

Here's my take on the Bengals trade. I think they traded to St. Louis assuming they would take something other than a running back. St. Louis has Faulk, so the Bengals figured they weren't going to take a franchise back. The Packers at 25 certainly wouldn't take a back. I think the Bengals thought they could give up the 24th and still land the best running back. They didn't and I think they reached for Perry. That extra fourth round pick better turn into something good, because otherwise they really screwed up.

JPhillips, that is actually a good take on the deal. Perhaps the Bengals thought they could drop AND get Jackson. Martz screwed them. Though I wonder why they didn't get Jones.

Heh, interesting comment by Randy Mueller on ESPN's Draft Cast;

Bengals: Why Perry over Jones?

NFL Insider Randy Mueller: (4:48 PM ET ) Good question...you could say maye that he's a bit tougher or more complete when it comes to catching and being asked to block...I don't think Jones has to do much except run...

JPhillips, if that's true, the Bengals got too cute for little reason. Why risk that someone else would possibly trade up to get Jackson (or take him outright) for only an extra 4th...

From what i heard, Sherman pretty much ruled out taking a QB high in this draft a few days ago, Favre will be around another 2 years i think

Couch so far refuses to take back-up QB money (and would also like only a one year deal), once he agrees to that the deal will get done, Sherman said they have no timetable for this to happen.
