Week 9 Summary:
CB Gerry Brown and SS Harry Bartrum committed to us today. We lost out on: OT Stephen Keane - Michigan DT Abe Ragsdale - UCLA OLB Jon Woolford - Nebraska CB Bill Bashir - Syracuse FS Mack Sievers - Oregon State RB Rudy Love - North Carolina OG Carl Baker - Utah OT Rod Hicks - Pitt I go after: FS Cecil Bass (#87, #9 FS) is 6'0 168 pounds and runs a 4.75. Has good ball hawking skills despite lack of ideal speed. Also has good tackling ability for his size. Also is smart with a 3.3 GPA. Washington and Arizona State are the main competiton. DT Steve Whitaker (#221, #16 DT) is 6'3 283 pounds. He has a poor GPA (1.9) but is very strong. Should be a very good run stopping DT. He is from Corning, OH. Ohio State and Texas are our main competition. WR Leon Counts (#264, #26 WR) is 6'2 180 pounds. He has 4.44 speed. Due to the lack of good running backs who want to come to USC, I might try the crazy experiment of converting this athletic kid into a lanky HB. UCLA is our main competition. OG Chaun Lindsey (#168, #8 G) is 6'2 291. Devastating run blocker already, has the potential to be very good. UCLA and Washington State are our main competition. He is from Hilo, HA. CB E.J. Evans (#223, #14) is 6'1 189. He runs a 4.53 and has good pass coverage skills. He is from Superior, AZ. Arizona State is our main competition. DT Melvin Longley (#41, #5) is 6'6 283 and is a dominating run stopper. He is from Ashland, Oregon. Cal and Oregon State are the main competition. OT Stan Pritchett (#71, #7) is 6'2 315 with excellent agility for a big guy. He is from Vacaville, CA. UCLA, CAl, and Oregon State are all heavily pursuing him. OT Jonas Haggan (#153, #8) is 6'0 300 with excellent agression. Has the potential to be a powerful run blocker and good pass blocker. He is from Bel Bolt, TX. Texas Tech, Auburn, and Notre Dame are our main competition. |

Eagles, can you keep us updated on your old OC's coaching career from now on? Just an end of season synopsis on UAB would be fine It's one thing I always like doing in my college games, seeing how old assistants who get head coaching gigs do at their new schools.

Week 10 Summary:
No one signs with us this week. We lose out on TE Bruce Santiago to Wisconsin, WR Todd Cushing to Ohio State, and DT Sam Campbell to UCLA (GRRRRR!!) I go after: FB Walt Boyd (#29, #1) 6'0 250. This very athletic player runs a 4.59 and has excellent pass receiving skills. He is a very good blocker. He could easily be converted into a very big, very powerful HB. I offer him a scholarship. TE Jim Kopay (#178, #3) is 6'1 234 pounds. He runs a 4.57 and has good hands. He also is a talented blocker for his size. He is from VT and wants to stay in the Northeast, yet is interested in us quite a bit. VT is our big competition. DT Sam Mitchell (#59, #6) is 6'1 270 with good strength. He is from Cloverdale, CA. UCLA is our main competition. |

Week 11:
Wierd, this is our worst recruiting season ever. No one signs with us. Did I aim too high? We lose out on: SS Chad Moretti - Arizona State FB Walt Boyd - Wisconsin OT Stan Pritchett - UCLA (GRRRRRR!) OT Jonas Haggan - Auburn TE Jim Kopay - NC State. Wes Nelson officially declared that he was going pro today. Other Pac-10 players that went pro: CB Ron Jones, Oregon State. Everyone else in the Pac-10 chose to come back. So, we now have 6 scholarships that aren't being offered to anyone. I'm just going after talent that is very highly interested in us now. I offer FS(Athlete) Bob Mueller a scholly. He is #123 nationally. He runs a 4.49 and could convert to a few positions for us including cornerback. Fresno State is our main competiton. He is from CA. QB Tom Jones (#167, #8) is 6'1 212 pounds and he really wants to come to USC now. He is slow 5.01, but he is smart and has a very good arm. Now, the top HB's that are left are more interested in us! Unfortunately, the top HB left is a speed back without great speed. I decide to go after the 2nd best HB instead. James Douglas (#467, #24) is 5'11 208. He runs a 4.93 but has good power in between the tackles. He is smart which is a plus. No one has offered him a scholarship yet, but I will as I think he could be a good #2 back at least and for inside the 5 yard line (where we were poor this year.) CB Brad Lewis (#268, #18) is 5'10 160. He runs a 4.57 and has the potential to develop good coverage skills. Oregon is our main competiton. He is from Solana Beach in CA. OT Doug White (#482, #29) is 6'8 279. He has a mammoth reach, but doesn't play with good leverage at times. Could become a good run blocker, needs to work on driving more in run blocking. OT Randy Williams (#164, #31) is 6'3 284. He has the potential to be a very good pass blocker and an adequate run blocker according to our scouts. He is from Rockford, IL. Notre Dame and FSU are our main competition. |

More bad news. We got 2 guys: DT Sam Mitchell OT Doug White But we missed out on many more: QB Bobby Richter - Michigan DT Melvin Longley - Cal FS Cecil Bass - Arizona State CB Ed Fouts - Stanford (we came after him too late) FS Bob Mueller - Fresno State I offer the following players scholarships: TE Artose Morgan (#451, #10) 6'6 225 with 4.47 speed. I should have offered a scholly sooner. He is from Clare, MI. Michigan and Purdue are big competitors. I've been putting calls into him for weeks and he is interested to a high degree. QB Lam Taylor (#202, #10) 6'2 188 with 4.57 speed. Has a decent arm, but needs to develop quite a bit. DT Shawn Strong (#173, #13) 6'7 271 with good power. OLB Eagle Childress (#300, #30) is 6'1 221. He runs a 4.70, but has good blitzing instincts. He has the potential to be a good run defender as well. I love his name FS Drayton Westbrook (#139, #39) is 6'0 170. He runs a 4.51 and has excellent coverage skills. |

Evans We lost out on: FS Drayton Westbrook - Alabama DT Shawn Strong - Texas QB Tom Jones - Texas QB Lam Taylor - Ohio State OLB: Eagle Childress - Syracuse. OT Rudi Ogden - Iowa I offer the following players scholarships: FS Troy Lehr (#204, #23) 5'10 187 from MT. He runs a 4.46. Oklahoma is our big competition. CB R.C. Thomas (#474, #35) 6'2 198 with great athletic ability. Runs a 4.56. Lives in San Diego CA. ND and UCLA are the main competition. QB Jeff Chandler (#877, #50) 6'1 187 runs a 4.47. Has decent arm strength with decent arm strength and mediocre accuracy. Will likely never be more than a backup for us. TE Lawrence Milton (#945, #29) is 6'2 235. He runs a 4.53. Plays for Coldwater, MI. ND is a main competitor. OG Mike Bartrum (#472, #26) is 6'8 273. He runs a surprising 4.81. Has the potential to be a very good run blocker, average pass blocker. WR Alfred Mcllhenny (#321, #38) is 6'1 186 with 4.45 speed. Has good agility and the potential to develop very good hands. |

Week 15 Summary:
We get WR Alfrech Mcllhenny and TE Lawrence Milton. We lose out on: QB Jeff Chandler - Cal OG D'Wayne Pinkard - UCLA FS Troy Lehr - Washington CB RC Thomas - ND So, we enter into the final week of recruiting with 5 open scholarships and only 1 guy considering one of them. QB Robert Keith (#485, #24) runs a 4.72. He is only 5'11 and 190. Has average accuracy and average arm strength. However, he has very good instincts. Could be a good #2 QB at some point. FS Central Tauscher (#271, #26) 6'1 189. Runs a 4.66. Has good coverage potential. UCLA is recruiting him hard, but maybe he has been waiting for us.. CB Henri Alexander (#340, #24) 6'1 164. Runs a 4.49. Has average coverage abilities, but may develop into a good corner. Fresno State is our main competition. OLB Zola Lopienski (#303, #31) is 6'2 243 and runs a very nice 4.59. He is from Ohio and is now being pursued hard by Ohio State. We''ll take a shot at him. So, this is it. Can we salvage this recruiting class with a few last minute signings? |

We signed CB Henri Alexander. We missed out on: FS Central Tauscher - UCLA (GRRRRRR!) OLB Zola Lopienski - Utah Oh, I actually have one last week of recruiting left. Due to just wanting to get talent in these slots, I offer: QB J.J. Berlin a scholarship. Ranked #390, #20 QB, he is 6'4 203. He runs a 4.55! Above average arm strength, good accuracy. He is from Ohio. Ohio State and Purdue are the main competition, but he is very interested in us. The only problem with J.J. and why I didn't offer him sooner is that he is a JC player. I REALLY don't need any more WR's but that is all that wants to come to my team of what is still left. WR Harrison King is ranked #376, #52 but has the athletic ability to play several positions. He is 6'1 175 with 4.49 speed. He has poor route running ability and is very raw. |

Really Looking over this class, I'm actually happy. We got the best SS in the nation which was our greatest need position.
We also got one of the best DT's to bolster that area of relative weakness. I would have liked to get an OLB, but that can wait til next year. We also got two reasonably good CB's which we needed. I think King will definitely move from WR to another position. Mclhenny will probably redshirt. I'm going to try to move Jeff Williams from MLB to OLB as well. I can't wait to see the report on the roster after training camp. |

Jeff Williams is doing very well at OLB, his new position during the training camp. Harrison King is having trouble adjusting from WR to FS.
Our recruiting class was my poorest one yet, we were ranked 15th in the nation in recruiting. The good news is that the returning talent is looking great in training camp. Here is a look at our Coaches evaluation of the talent:

Our Offensive coordinator wants to run a vertical offense which I definitely agree with.
Our DC wants to keep running the 4-3 which I like. We only have 9 games scheduled and need to schedule 3 more. We already have ND in the 1st week at their place. I want an easy game in week 2, so I request Kansas come to our place. None of the really good teams want to play us in week 3, so I request Iowa at their place. Finally, in Week 12, I request a home and away with VT. Kansas accepted in week 2. Iowa declined my invitation to play at their place in week 3. VT agreed to come to our place in week 12 as part of a home and away. Only low ranking teams seem to want to play us in week 3, so I request Duke at our place. Duke accepts and our schedule is full: |

He did well. 43rd is a great class for a team of their prestige IMO. I don't know that coaches make much of a difference in recruiting, but perhaps he helped. He certainly had a reputation as a GREAT developer of talent at every position. Here is a look at UAB's info:

Interesting, he is going to be running an option attack at UAB. Quite different than his preferred offense while he was with me.
Edit: By the way, his name is Josh Grandberry (in case he moves, I gotta remember his name )

Of Note, Superstar Freshman Harry Bartrum has won the SS spot and will start on day 1.
We are #1 in the polls heading into the first week. Preview: Today we play Notre Dame at their place. Our Coaches believe Notre Dame has similar talent level on offense! They believe our defense is slightly better. They believe our overall team is slightly better. Their QB Terry Brockington has the potential to be one of the Heisman candidates this year. Their talented defense is led by FS Charlie Stevens who was the #1 Player in the Country a few years ago. Gameplan: Our OC wants to run the same gameplan as last year, our throw first to set up the run. Lots of 3 and 4 WR sets. Our DC wants to run a lot of Nickelback against their star QB. We are also going to blitz quite a bit. |

They have over 80,000 fans here. We are 7 point favorites on the road.
Betters is tackled on the 12. After a 22 yard run by Malcolm, Randy underthrows his receiver on his first pass. Next play Randy throws it to Jerry for 23 yards. Malcolm runs for 15 on the next play. Randy throws it to Jerry for 13. Randy scrambles for 3 and hurts his elbow, but doesn't have to leave the game. Malcolm runs for 12 the next play. Malcolm with a 2 yard run for a TD. 5 carries for 50 yards, mostly out of the singleback set with 3 WR's spreading the field. 7-0. We force a 3 and out with good solid defense. We start on our 36. Randy dissects their defense (which really has a lot of talented players) and we march 64 yards in 8 plays. The drive ends with a 9 yard Malcolm TD! 14-0. Randy was 4 for 4 for 42 yards on that drive. We force a 3 and out despite their talented QB trying to spread the ball around. We start on our 38. Randy hits Howard for 37 yards on a deep comeback pass. Randy with a 16 yard pass to Franklin gets us inside the 10. 2 plays later, Randy connects with Franklin for a 7 yard TD! 21-0. Patrick Benson with a dazzling reverse in which we had him bottled up, but he somehow avoided 2 tackles to make a 25 yard run. A play later, Benson catches a short pass, jukes my defender, and runs it up the sideline for a 40 yard TD! 21-7. Their offense really has a huge number of talented players (like mine) and I knew we wouldn't hold them for forever. End of 1: 21-7 lead for us. Randy throws a little hook to Howard, he jukes a man, runs for 22 yards. They are playing good downfield coverage this drive, but Randy is picking them apart on the short stuff as he checks down. We drive inside the 30, but fail to convert 3rd and 2. We go for it on 4th and 2, and Randy hits Kelley for 8 yards. Randy hands off to Ryan Donckers for a 5 yard TD to end a 15 play 80 yard drive. 28-7. We've scored a TD on every drive so far. Hank Tucker, their star HB, finally breaks a run for 18 yards. On 2nd and 5, Harry Bartrum gets his first sack as he blitzes through the middle for a loss of 1. They settle for a FG after failing to convert 3rd and 6. 28-10 USC leads. Lennox Franklin hurts his knee bad on this drive and has to leave the game A few plays later, Randy ends a 7 play 59 yard drive with a 9 yard strike to Dick Sayers on the crossing route. 35-10! They start on their 33 with under 2 minutes to go. We force a 3 and out. They punt with under 40 seconds left. We run the ball and run out the clock. Halftime: 35-10 lead for us. Randy's stats: 16 of 20 for 216 yards 2 TD's 0 INT's. We force a 3 and out to start the 2nd half. We start on our 30. Randy is sacked on 2nd down and we run it on 3rd and 9. Interesting call by my coordinator. We get 8 yards on 3rd and 9 and end up punting. Brockington hits Benson in stride down the sideline and they score on a 56 yard TD pass. Benson is amazing. 35-17. A good kickoff return by Betters start us at our 36. They sack Randy on 3rd and 8 and we punt from their 40. They start on their 18. They have a nice drive going, but Kevin Thompson comes up from the SS position and sacks their QB on 3rd and 7. They punt it and it is a touchback. Randy tried scrambling and their DT forced a fumble with a hard hit. ND recovers it. They drive inside the 30, but Marcus Thompson has a key sack which forces a FG attempt. 41 yard FG is good. 35-20. End of 3: USC 35 - ND 20. We get it on the 40 as they kick it out of bounds. Randy throws a pick to star FS Charlie Stevens to start our drive. Our defense stuffs their HB 2 times and we stop them on 3rd. They attempt a 44 yard FG attempt but Courtney Carlton blocked it. Malcolm is stuffed on 3rd and 1 and we end up punting. A great punt return gets them the ball on our 42 to start. Joshua Lewis with a 5 yard sack on the first play. Putnam sacks the QB the next play for 4 yard loss. We force them to punt. They punt it to the 4 yard line. They stuff us on 2 runs. Randy throws a good pass to Kelley, but the cornerback nails Kelley and forces an incompletion. We punt it to our own 43 as it is a bad punt. We stop them after they drive inside the 25 and they kick a 39 yard FG. 35-23 with 6 minutes left. Randy hits Jerry Jones on a fly pattern and he makes a 73 yard reception before being tracked down. 2 plays later Donckers runs it in from 6 yards out. 42-23. Harry Bartrum intercepts a slant on their 2nd play of this drive! Harry with quite the nice game! Randy is tackled before he can hand it off, and he is hurt. He ends up leaving the game! We end up driving close enoug to connect on a 53 yard FG. 45-23 lead for us. Jim Stacey ges a sack on 2nd and 3. DT Sam Mitchell, the true freshman, gets his first sack after they convert the 3rd down play. They go for it on 4th and 4, and we defend the pass. We get the ball on their 37 with 50 seconds left. We run out the clock. Game over. 45-23 win! Pros: Randy looked very good. The defense looked great in the first quarter. Cons: Malcolm looked great the first drive, but became tired and much less explosive the rest of the game. |

Oh No! The game is hanging up on saving. I saved a backup copy at the end of last season (like I always do) but if this doesn't resolve, we might lose the whole offseason
Edit: That would only be the case if this save becomes corrupted. Otherwise, I'll just lose the ND game.

The Good news is that the save file wasn't corrupted.
The bad news is that I apparently haven't saved since Week 16 of the offseason (2nd to last week of recruiting.) Hopefully, I get the same late signings this time around. I'll redo that and training camp in a day or two (as well as the ND game.) |

That sucks when a game does something like that. I hope you can replicate those missed weeks.

Yeah, it does suck, but I'm over it now. The training camp is the biggest pain in the ass, as I've realized over the last year that doing training myself yields much better results than just using the suggest all button (the CPU wastes too many points on adaptability in my opinion.)
I'm just hoping that recruiting and the training play out about the same. Of course, I don't remember the exact numbers I used for everyone's training, so they'll probably turn out a bit different. Well already, one thing has turned out different. I offered WR King a scholarship at the same time I did last year, but he chose UCLA instead. I hate alternating history, but I made a good faith effort to get King again even though he was looking like a bust for me. Otherwise, I signed all of the same guys this time.

This has taught me to remember to save every week. Duke refused to play us this season, so instead we have Navy in week 3. Also, since we didn't get that crappy WR, our class ranking rose from 15th to 11th. Here is a look at the revised schedule:

Not typing out a game description this time, since I don't feel like looking too in-depth at a "replay" game, but there were some very interesting results. Our defense had more trouble with ND's offense this time, but our offense was virtually unstoppable. Randy had an amazing game (even more amazing is that he didn't get hurt ) Here is the boxscore:

Week 2:
Injury Report: Backup MLB Robert Peete ore a ligament in his thumb. He is doubtful for this week (and probably the next few weeks.) Polls: We remain at #1. UAB update: They actually had the 41st best class this time around. Their first game is in week 2. Preview: Today we host Kansas. Our offense is 3rd in the nation. Our defense is 110th after ND tore us up. Kansas has the 61st best offense and 93rd best defense. Their QB Charles Sams is average at best, and he is their best player. This game should be a HUGE blowout. We are 29 point favorites. Gameplanning: We are using our wide open offense, and a balanced defense. |

Full house today as usual at the Coliseum.
We kickoff and they start on our 43 thanks to a great kickoff return! Their mediocre halfback slashes for 21 yards on their 1st play. We stop them on the next 2 plays, but they convert on a 3rd and 10 and then throw a 9 yard TD pass! Crud.. Our defense needs to get it together. 7-0. On the first series, Randy hurts his hip while handing off! He is done for the day. We get inside the 25, but they stop us! We kick the FG. 7-3. Another very good kickoff return starts them on their 45. Their HB gets 8 on his first carry. We stop him for 1 on the next carry. SS Harry Bartrum nails him the next carry, but he got a yard. Crap, their offensive line is actually decent, and they get a good block for another 11 yards. The next play DT Joshua Lewis picks it off when he dropped back into a zone! They stop us on 3rd and goal from the 3. We settle for a 22 yard FG. Malcolm and Sanders moved the ball with ease most of the drive. 7-6 Kansas leads. Touchback on the next kickoff. End of 1: Kansas 7 - USC 6. Kansas is on their own 30 with a 1st and 10. We stop them at the 50. They punt into the endzone and we start on our 20. Sanders starts moving the ball right away with a 27 yard pass to Kelley. Holding calls negate two big plays, but we keep converting long 3rd downs with good passing. Sanders ends the 8 play 80 yard drive with an 18 yard TD pass to Jones. 13-7 lead. An excellent return starts them on their 48. A defensive holding call keeps their drive alive, and they drive inside our 5. We stuff them there, and they kick a short FG. 13-10 we lead. We start our drive with a 34 yard pass to Kelley. We finish a 6 play 73 yard drive with a 3 yard TD run by Maston. 20-10 with 2 minutes left in the half. (OOC Note) I got called away for something work related, and come back to see I didn't pause it after all. However, our defense is dominating, has a few picks, and our offense is rolling. we are up 38-10 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd. Sanders is 19 of 23 for 344 yards with 3 TD's at this point. Michael Howard hurts his clavicle on this play and has to leave the game. End of 3: USC 38 - Kansas 10 with us driving into the redzone. Sanders hits Malcolm for a 2 yard screen for a TD! 45-10. We get another pick deep in our turf. Secules has 3 interceptions today, plus Joshua Lewis has that 1 improbable interception. We get stopped at midfield as our backups are playing and end up punting. Even with our backups in there some, we win 52-10. Pros: Sanders played great. The defense generally played very well. Cons: Randy was hurt, yet again. Should I end Randy's tenure as starter? |

Week 3:
Injury Report: WR Michael Howard dislocated his clavicle, but is probable this week! MLB Robert Peete is doubtful with his torn thumb ligament. CRAP! OG David Carter (decent backup), backup FB Louis Liske, and backup OLB Jeff Williams are all suspended due to grades. UAB update: They lost their first game 34-20 to Northern Illinois. Hopefully UAB is patient with Josh. We drop to #2 in the media poll despite the big win as Miami beat #10 LSU 33-20 to take over the 1st place spot. More to follow later today... |

I am having a blast playing it So much so, that it is time to continue Depth chart Issues: Despite my annoyance, Randy will start. This is his team, he has been here 4 years and has earned the right to start when healthy. We remove the suspended players which leaves us very weak at FB behind Seau. Also, We are now weak at our backup guard spot. Howard will remain the 3rd receiver as he is probable. Robert Peete will only play in case of emergency due to his injury. The loss of our top backup OLB leaves us a bit thin there, but Calvin Carlton will be the primary backup. Preview: Today we host Navy in what should be an easy win. However, Navy has a very good defense and that might surprise us. SS Paul Corbett is above average and leads a unit which has a decent talent level at every position. Corbett has 15 tackles and 1 PD. Their offense is 53rd in the nation and is led by a decent QB. They run some option plays which we will have to watch out for, but our speed should be able to neutralize it.. Gameplan: Our OC and DC stick with the gameplans that we used last week. We are 16 point favorites at home. |

Beautiful day today in LA with a sell out crowd.
They start on their 22. We stop them at their own 40. Betters with a good punt return starts us at our 30. We have an offensive pass interference followed by a personal foul that just kill our 1st drive. We punt from our own 20. They start on our 41 with a great punt return. We stop them in 3 successive plays and force a punt. It's a touchback. WE cover 80 yards in 10 plays and end the drive with a 16 TD strike from Randy to Jerry. 7-0. Balanced drive with 36 yards on the ground. We are going to use Ryan more in our games to keep Malcolm fresh. They start on their 38 after a good kickoff return. They drive to our 36 before we stop them. They try to coffin corner the punt, but it is a touchback. We fail to convert a 3rd and 3 and we have to punt from our own 37 as the quarter ends. End of 1: 7-0 lead for us. Harry Bartrum with a big tackle on 3rd and 2 to stop them short. We defend the short pass on 4th and 1 and get the ball on downs. We start on our 40. WOW! Randy scrambled for 5 on 3rd and 3, and he collided with their MLB. The MLB was the player that was hurt! Eric Bieniemy continues to make bad holding calls and he negates a 23 yard pass completion. They stop us on 3rd and 2 from the 9 yard line. Mason misses the 27 yard FG! They put together some great rus to get inside out 5. However, we stuff them 3 consecutive times from the 3 yard line! However, our star freshman SS injured his knee on the 3rd play. They kick the short FG. 7-3 we lead. Betters with an 86 yard kickoff return! Malcolm runs it in from the 4 yard line the next play! 14-3 lead for us with 4 minutes to go in the half. Good kickoff coverage starts them on their 19. DE Jim Stacy was hurt on the 2nd play of their drive, and will have to leave the game. They are passing it well to their TE and he is hurting us for some big gains. They drive deep into our territory, but Betters intercepts it inside our 10 and returns it 23 yards! Time runs out before we can call T.O after a 39 yard pass completion. Halftime: 14-3 lead for us. Randy's stats: 8 of 9 for 106 yards and 1 TD. We start on our 20. Jerry doesn't get a foot in bounds on 3rd down and we have to punt. A poor punt gives them the ball on their 42. A screen to their star HB gets them 36 yards and they work it inside our 5. Our defensive line holds strong and stops them on 3rd and goal from the 3. They kick a short FG. 14-6 we lead. We start on our 38. Eric Bieniemy with an illegal crackback block kills our drive, and pushes us back to the 47. However, Randy connects with Jerry on a 15 yard pass to conert 3rd and 12. They stop us a yard short on 3rd down and we settle for a 30 yard FG. 17-6. Nate Ferrario intercepts their first long pass. he returns it to the 50. They stop us short around the 33 and we make a 49 yard FG. 20-6 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd. They start on their 20. We force a 3 and out. Betters with a 26 yard punt return to start on their 44. They stop us just inside the 20, we kick a 36 yard FG. 23-6 with 13 minutes to go. They get a great kickoff return and start at midfield. We stop them short on 3rd down, and they go for it 4th and 2, but we stuff the runner. 2 plays later, Randy hits Jerry in stride on a fly route for a 46 yard TD! 30-6. Mason kicks a touchback. We stop them at midfield. They had a good 20 yard option run and a 13 yard pass to the TE before we stopped them. We start on our 25 after the punt. Randy drives us down the field methodically, before throwing a screen to Donckers who follows his blocks and takes it in from 38 yards out! 37-6 with 5 minutes to go. We force a 3 and out, aided by some penalties on Navy. A good punt return starts on their 38. We are stuffed on 3 runs and settle for a 51 yard FG. 40-6. Just under 90 seconds to go. They get another great kickoff return to start on on our 39. Our coverage has been horrible today. Jeremiah Bratton picks off a deep pass intended for their TE. We run out the clock. End of Game: 40-6 win for us. Pros: Randy stayed healthy all game long and had a good game. Malcolm had a good game. Cons: Our kickoff coverage has been horrible every game. |

Depth Chart Issues: Harry will be our 3rd SS and will only play if the other 2 guys are hurt.
Peete will remain our emergency MLB until he is healed more. Polls: We remain #2 in both polls. Preview: Today we travel to play a 1-1 Arizona State team. Their offense is 66th in the nation is led by star HB Kevin Bathea. The sophomore is hurt this week, but is probable. He has over 100 yards in each of his first two games. Despite his excellence, they are 66th in the nation in offense. Their defense is 68th, but they have talent at their main positions. Their FS, Bryant Weaver is their best defensive player and we will have to watch out for the ball hawk today. Gameplanning: Call me crazy, but I went and redesigned our offense. Someone mentioned the run and shoot? We are going to run something similar. I've said this is a pass happy offense, but it really hasn't been. Now, we will pass MUCH more than we have. I think it will equate with an explosive offensive (Even though we are already 5th.) Our defense is going to maintain as a moderate balanced defense with some blitzing. We are 14 point favorites despite the temp expecting to be over 100 in Arizona. The key matchup is our star WR Jerry Jones against their secondary. They have held opponents to 213 yards per game through the air. I expect to shatter that today... |

They have over 60,000 fans here today. The temp is 102 at kickoff.
Good kickoff, we tackle them at the 19. Brad Adams sacks their QB on the first play of the game for a loss of 7. They connect on a short pass that their WR makes into a 20 yard gain to convert 3rd and 17. Joshua Lewis sacks the QB, forces a fumble, Brad Adams recovers it! Randy is hit as he throws on our 2nd play of the game. He is hurt and has to leave the game! We go 3 and out. I still think the new offense will be a big success. They march down the field in large part due to a 50 yard pass and connect on a 2 yard TD to take a 7-0 lead! We start on our 20. Sanders hit Jones for 13, then Jones for another 24. Sanders miss on 1st and 2nd down. We are stopped 3 yards short on 3rd down. We miss the 55 yard FG. Still 7-0. We force a 5 and out as they go for it. We stop them short on the short pass. We start on our 45. Sanders throwing short quick passes to move us down field. The 8 play 54 yard drive ends with a 19 yard TD pass to our TE Eric Williams! 7-7. Sanders was 7 of 7 on the drive. End of 1: 7-7 tie. They get one first down, but we stop them on their 30. A great punt starts us at our 14. Malcolm with a 7 yard run to start the drive. Then, Sedrick hits Jones for 20, then another 12 the next play. Sanders hits Howard for 9 to cross midfield. Sedrick hits Malcolm on the short out for 8. Sedrick hits Howard on a deep out and he makes his man miss for a 36 yard TD!!!! 14-7. We force a 3 and out. Betters returns the punt 9 yards to our 49. Malcolm with a 7 yard run to start the drive. Sanders hits Kelley in stride on a fly pattern for a 44 yard TD!!! 21-7. They put together a nice 45 yard drive, but we stop them at our 38. They attempt a 55 yard FG which is wide right. Maston with a 6 yard run. Sanders hits Kelley for 7. Malcolm is stuffed for a loss of 4. Sanders overthrows our TE. Sanders hits Kelley for 17 on the out and up pattern. Sanders checks down to Kelley on the short curl for 2 yards. Sanders is making great reads. Sanders connects with Howard for 9. Sanders with 3 incompletions in a row, and we settle for a 44 yard FG which we miss wide left! 21-7 with 30 seconds left. Halftime: 21-7 USC leads. Sanders halftime stats: 20 of 27 for 262 yards 3 TD's 0 INT's. We start on our 24. 8 play 76 yard drive which ends in a 18 yard TD pass to Franklin. 28-7. We force a 3 and out. Sanders moves the ball 52 yards with 5 passes including a 1 yard screen to Malcolm for a TD! 35-7. They drive across midfield, but Terry Betters picks off a deep pass on our 10. Sanders guides on a 11 play 90 drive which ends in a 4 yard TD run by Malcolm. 42-7 as the 3rd ends. End of 3: 42-7 we lead. Dwone Secules with a big hit on the receiver at midfield, forces a fumble which Carlton recovers. They stop us at the 8 yard line and we kick the 26 yard FG. 45-7 with 8 minutes left as we ran the ball more that drive to work the clock. We force another fumble which Bratton recovers on their 40. Garron is in now with the big lead and he is having trouble working this offense, but Jones just had an amazing play to convert 3rd down! Still we end up getting stopped short a few plays later, and settle for a short FG. 48-7 with 5 minutes left. We are teeing off on their QB's now! We force a 3 and out. We get the ball around midfield. We run it down the field, and Donckers runs a 12 yard sweep for a TD as time is about to run out! 55-7. Game over. 55-7 win. Pros: The new offense was incredible. Record day passing. Good kick coverage this game. Cons: Randy was hurt early. I think he could have put up similar numbers to Sanders if he could have stayed healthy...

Injury Report:
Randy pulled his hamstring. He is questionable this week and will sit (but will be moved into the starter's role if Sedrick is hurt.) MLB Robert Peete is questionable with his thumb injury and will sit. SS Harry Bartrum is doubtful with his knee injury and will sit. Polls: Despite the huge win, we drop to #3 in both polls. Wisconsin beat #13 Iowa 29-27 and moved into the #1 slot. Miami is #2. Notable Stats: Our Offense is now #1 in the nation averaging over 555 yards per game. More to follow later. |

Preview:
Today we host #19 Washington State. They are currently 3-0 and we are #3 and 4-0. If we win, it should propel us back into the top 2, hopefully. They have a very good offense that is currently 29th in the nation. They have a balanced attack that is led by RB Marvel DelGaizo who has developed nicely into a good power back. He has had at least 125 yards rushing in each of his first 3 games. Their defense is 6th in the nation and it is led by MLB Dave Thomas who is a definite All-American Candidate. He has great pass rushing ability, outstanding tackling, and good speed. He has 30 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 stuffs in 3 starts this year. Our Offense is judged to have much more talent. Their defense is judged to have slightly more talent. Overall, we have much more talent. The key matchup is Malcom vs their front 7 which is only allowing 72 yards rushing per game. However, I think our WR's are going to be the key matchup. Gameplan: We are going to run our new offense that we ran last week in which we really throw a lot. Our defense will be the same balanced defense. We are 16 point favorites at home. |

Beautiful, but hot day with a sell out crowd in LA.
They return our kickoff to the 33 to start the game. Trevor Malone stuffs DelGaizo for a loss of 1 on the first play. Coleman stops him after a 5 yard run the next play. DelGaizo with a 17 yard run on 3rd and 6. The next 3 plays are incomplete passes and they end up punting. Sedrick's first pass is incomplete. The 2nd play is a 12 yard pass negated by a holding call.
