Dump Dancer, definitely. I'd vote for Fireball, though. Better maneuverability, which is important in fog, and good teamwork too. Also, the speed problem won't matter much in fog. And finally, you have to love that landing score.

And if you guys are passing, please indicate lead deer and any magic usage since the Odds have already done so.

Stage 3: Take-off
Odds:
Although not the calamity that it was in the first two stages, the hardest part once again was actually getting the sleigh airborne. Vlad did the best he could, but the rest of the team struggled – particularly Clarisse, who may as well have been dead-weight. Moonbeam’s lead combination of speed and power took over as they climbed skyward; Jingle Bells raced along while the rest of the team plodded, but the power element was really strong almost across the board, including an impressive effort by newcomer Silent Night. The teamwork was outstanding, and helped overcome the poor initial take-off for a score of +3. Evens: As if to scoff at their Odd rivals, the Even team got airborne relatively smoothly. Egg Nog led the way skyward despite lead partner Evergreen’s indifference, with Yuletide and Sugarplum excelling and Northwind stumbling. Speed was lacking – Evergreen, Yuletide, and newcomer Fireball looked like they were standing still, although Dasher dashed quite well. Egg Nog powered along quickly, but the rest of the team failed to match his effort, with Blitzen hardly pulling at all. Teamwork was pretty meager, and the score was –3. * * * * * Stage 3 Score: Odds +3 Evens -3 Overall Score: Evens +62 and 1 Stage Odds +50 and 1 Stage * * * * * Looks like a tight one as we head into the dense fog of flight! Odds are up for magic declaration.

Stage 3: Flight
Odds:
Overall, an impressive effort with some individual stars. Moonbeam was in a zone, maneuvering and blasting along with such speed and power that he neglected his navigation. Vlad moderated that effect to some degree, but didn’t slow down much at all and as a result pulled little. Cupid was an overall force, and Clarisse and Silent Night properly backed off the speed and concentrated on power and maneuverability. Rudolph, Jingle Bells, and Donner were pretty worthless in this flight, but the Odds stayed in the lead for the flight with a +14 score. Evens: Egg Nog must have been drinking whatever rival Moonbeam was, because he powered and shaked-and-baked through the fog like a possessed flying antelope. Unfortunately, both he and Evergreen dropped the ball with navigation, despite his magic. Sugarplum and Blitzen raced along, with Yuletide (who maneuvered expertly) and leader Evergreen pulling the hardest of the others, and Fireball so intent on maneuvering that he dragged the whole sleigh. Teamwork suffered from this hodge-podge, but they managed a +4 * * * * * Stage 3 Score: Odds +17 Evens +1 Overall Score: Evens +66 and 1 Stage Odds +64 and 1 Stage * * * * * Odds are up for landing magic declaration.

Fireball's bad, yes. On the other hand, can you imagine what our teamwork would have been like with Hoofmaniac in there? None of the free agent deer were exactly top-class.

North Wind to use magic on Teamwork, then, since I think we might want to shift him out anyway if there's someone decent available after we've replaced Evergreen.

Stage 3: Landing
Odds:
With his enhanced maneuverability, Moonbeam magically guided the sleigh through the fog into their landing pattern, aided by Clarisse and Silent Night. Everyone chipped in well enough except Donner, who was pitching a fit. Vlad had the landing itself under control, but then the two magic-using deer must have had withdrawals, because they seemed to shut down completely, taking Rudolph, Silent Night, Cupid, and Donner hard into the ground with them. The sleigh jolted into the ground like a rock. Evens: As the fog swirled around them, Egg Nog and Evergreen maneuvered the sleigh with great skill, banking and cutting as necessary. North Wind and even Dasher fell in line with them, and though Fireball and Blitzen were hindrances, it wasn’t enough to spoil the fine maneuvering of the lead deer. They continued downward and brought the team in for a beautiful landing, and here Fireball really shined, performing as if he was born to land that sleigh. Only Yuletide failed to add anything of merit, but it was more than enough to grab the 3rd Stage and take the overall lead. * * * * * Stage 3 Score: Evens +37 Odds +23 Overall Score: Evens +102 and 2 Stages Odds +70 and 1 Stage * * * * * Endurance and Magic ratings have been updated on the deer. We now hold a brief mini-draft to replace any deer you wish to drop. Remember that each deer that you replace costs a (-5) overall score penalty. For your pick you may either drop a deer from your team and select a replacement, or pass. Evens get the first pick in this stage, and then teams trade off picks until both have passed on consecutive picks. You may still draft later after passing, as long as both teams have not passed on consecutive picks (at which point the draft ends). Proposed draft picks will need to be seconded, but in order to keep things moving, the pick will be official once two hours have gone by regardless of seconding, and the other team may pick. Weather for Stage 4 is Overcast, and weather for Stage 5 is Overcast. You may also switch lead deer. Once the draft is over, please proceed to this decision as well as any magic for take-off. Evens are on the clock!

WSUCougar- are we getting crap rolls or are our stats just not up to par and we need to do some major overhauling?

The rolls have been admittedly crappy, and the poor weather has exacerbated that problem. I think I might have utilized more magic in the heavy weather, but that's hindsight. With the two stages of overcast (no effect weather) forthcoming, I think the deer ratings will be a bit more true. Also, the end game is going to be wild due to the reduction in endurance across the board. Hang in there!

Pssst WSUCougar, one of their lead deer from last time isn't on their current team.
I don't think it'll make much of a difference for the Odds team to wait for them, so I'll propose Vlad and Moonbeam again as our lead deer and vote for no magic this stage. |
