For a lot of these episodes I laugh more the 2nd time through because the first time I am just in shock of what is said and done.

The great thing about this show is that even the simplest of lines that may not seem funny on the surface get you laughing, especially if you think about the absurdity of them. ie, "Need another watermelon? I have plenty more in my trunk."

Stanley's face seeing the watermellon on his car was priceless! As was Michael's comment that if it was Stanley's car to hire a lawyer!

I'm in awe that this show has managed to stay at such a consistently high level now for the last two seasons. It really is just about perfect almost every episode.

Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, B.J Novak, Phyllis Smith, Leslie David Baker, Mindy Kaling, Rashida Jones, Creed Bratton, Oscar Nunez, Angela Kinsey, Brian Baumgartner and Kate Flannery also star. /tk

They're showing the Democrat debate on NBC right now, it ends at 8:30, so hopefully that means The Office will be on.

Doesn't seem to be nationally on NBC. My local NBC has Access Hollywood, and the debate is on MSNBC. Yawn. Stupid debate so early. /tk

Have the episodes seemed top heavy of late? What I mean is, the majority of the laughs are at the first scene and within the first 10 minutes. It just feels like there are so many characters they want to get in the show and give something to do, that they end up wrapping stories us too quickly or not giving them enough room to air. There don't seem to be as many multi-episode stories as there were in previous seasons.

Brilliant .
I loved the fact that Andy had a high school girlfriend! And Michael impersonating Dwight was utterly hilarious!! "Escape goat"

I really didn't like Creed in that episode. I found his character to be funny, but in a mean way. He's now jumped over to being mean. I didn't find the stuff he was doing very amusing, but I understand it still is his character.

I about fell off of my couch laughing when Dwight said, "I wish I could menstruate."

The last couple of minutes were absolutely brutal... I had to cover my eyes once he made the call. That's what so great about the Office. It's hilarious, but it also has those "no, no, don't" moments that make you cringe. If this were some shit like Friends, you would have David Schwimmer being way over the talk and then talking in some weird high pitched voice.
Overall though, I laughed a lot, but the episode just felt disjointed. |

Oh man, this show just KEEPS getting better and better! Michael trying to explain how even though Pam was hot she'd never be as skinny as a supermodel (perhaps true, but said in the worst possible way) and acting like an authority on women was priceless. Though the mall conversation was just awesome and conversely the guys sitting in the girls bathroom and talking about their relationships was just great.

Couple of funny moments, but this was one of the poorer episodes in recent memory IMO. I agree with Easy Mac, it felt very disjointed. I don't know if there was a new director, whether it was rushed or what but the editing seemed off, the performances seemed off, etc.. Ah well, even great shows have occasional bummers.

I agree with moriarty - for whatever reason, this episode just didn't do it for me. No biggie, though, the bar is set high for this show, so a disappointment for it is still worthy tv-watching.

Though I admit that The Office has set such a high bar for itself that even really good episodes can feel like a letdown because they weren't great. |

Same. Michael opening up to the women (and trying to pretend he understood them)... and the men discovering the ladies bathroom was just great stuff.

Err... I'm not for that. I think it fits perfectly in a half-hour. Hour long comedies normally don't work well, because they have to find a way to fill all that space on a regular basis.

I think they normally try and throw to much into a half hour and don't flesh it out enough.

Frankly I think they usually hit the nail perfectly on the head with the time they have. All that stuff in one episode keeps you laughing all the way through and I think it's meant to be that way.

I think The Office could do wonders with a full hour (actually 40 minutes). The couples times they've been given the chance to do that (Casino Night, Benihana Christmas) have been two of my favorite episode of the whole show.
What makes the Office great is that it gets as much of its humor from awkward silences as it does from over the top slapstick. Plus there are so many great supporting characters, this would allow them much more time to flesh them out. Who wouldn't want to see an arc for Stanley?

E! Reports that someone from The OFfice may be leaving the show so they're doing two season finales. I can't find out who the person leaving may be. Yikes.
The reason for the leave is a new show for that person. My guess for the person leaving, Karen. *shrug* That's just me. Last edited by mauchow : 05-06-2007 at 08:31 AM. |

I really hope it isn't one of Jim/Pam/Michael/Dwight - everyone else, I can live with (though Angela/Ryan/Kelli would all suck).

I don't think it would be a surprise at all for Karen to leave. Her character clearly hasn't been set up to be long term. They haven't given her any reason to be around other than Jim.

Exactly my thought. Plus, her purpose has been served...she was around to create tension in the Pam-Jim thing. She's done that. To the point of it being tedoius. Time for that plot line to move along. /tk

I started watching some of the UK Office episodes, and I can see why some people who saw the UK version first might see the US version as not as good. The jokes on the UK version seem hackneyed to me, but only because I'm used to the same exact jokes in from the US version. Someone who saw the UK version first might have the opposite experience.

I watched the UK version first, and stopped watching the US version after two episodes because it did seem hackneyed. However, the characters in the US version have really grown (starting in season 2) and the show has distinguished itself from its roots. It's one of my favorite shows on TV now.

I'm in the exact same boat here. The British version of The Office ranks as one of my favorite shows of all time, and the first few episodes of the American version were just terrible imo. I gave up on it, and just recently gave it another try. I am very impressed. It's moved far enough away from the original that it doesn't feel like a clone, the characters have really become their own. Now I love it. |

I saw the US version first, but I think some of the best episodes were from the 1st season. Diversity Day, The Alliance, Basketball, and Health Care are some of my favorite episodes so I wouldn't say they were terrible at all. I saw the UK version and it's one of my favorite shows ever, but the US version is doing a great job so far developing all of the characters. The 3rd season isn't as good as the 2nd though and some of the plot lines and characters like Michael and Dwight are going over the top. It's still better than most comedies here in the US, but the UK version is just superior.
