Nope, the assistant referee did his job perfectly and informed the center ref of what happened. That was just sad on so many different levels. Absolutely uncalled for, so classless. /tk

I'd think it is time to put the money on Italy. What a knumb-skull move by Zindane. From hero to goat in one head butt. |

That was so weird!! Since when has Zidane been that kind of player?? I hate France, and he was the only reason I'd even THINK of cheering for them... way to go idiot. Go Italy!!

Way for a captain to lead his team, make a ridiculous act like that and put your team a man down in the WORLD CUP FINAL.

Geez, what a crazy turn of events. And the crowd is totally rooting for France even after seeing the Zidane replay.
Got to love the Euros.

Unfortunately, it's something he's done before - he's gotten the odd red card here and there, for Juventus and Real Madrid, iirc. |

Talk about being split. I don't like France in general, and seeing that headbutt gave me every reason to root against them.
But then again, if Italy wins, I'd have to listen to my friends who are like 6% Italian pound their chest about how great "they" are. Maybe I should just change the channel. |

As long as the Italians go Roberto Baggio I'll be happy.

That was a crazy decision by Zidane, and I was only tuning in to watch him play (and possibly win, but not anymore).

This might be a dumb question, but if France wins does Zidane get to come back out and get to receive the trophy? Or does he have to stay off the field for getting the red?

Dang
This needs to be like hockey playoffs- OT until a winner. I remember that one from 12 years ago with PK's and it was such a letdown SI

Then you would have to allow them to add-on subs after each 15 or 30 minutes.

I can see PKs in the earlier rounds, but in the final? blech... I think they should give them 3 more subs, turn off the clock and play until someone scores.

Dammit I abhor PK's.
For a beautiful game that is TRULY a team game, for it to end 1 v 1, whoever has the best combination of luck and nerves just really really really sucks. /tk

Penalty kicks..it's like ending the super bowl with rock, paper, scissors.

You better duck. Actually I think the biggest problem with allowing extra subs is that in theory you'd have to expand the roster and the number of pre-game declared subs and then it just gets ugly... /tk

What's with the 3 subs thing, too? What year is this? Soccer is so antiquated. All the way down to the whole injury time thing where no one knows how much time is left in the game.

its a game about stamina and skill, not how fast someone can run for 4 seconds.

I'm guessing the 68th page of a thread, dedicated to an event that is about 5 minutes away from ending, isn't the best time to determine possible rule changes.

Well, I figured it was better to let folks revel in how "beautiful" the game is for 68 pages before trashing how silly it is.

I've lost my exciting appeal for this game with these kicks. I could honestly care less now, because the winner really is who can hit the goal, instead of it being a team game.

Oh yeah, the Italian GK pumping his fist like he had anything to do with the score being 2-1.

That was a nice dose of sneaky. Fake fast, get the keeper to commit, and just lay it in.
