Sure, he blew that play..but if he doesn't stop the ball, they score two.

Is it too hard to score that an E5?

In the history of home-field aided calls, I think that was hardly a blip on the radar. It was solidly hit, and even if fielded cleanly, he would've had trouble throwing Jeter out.

It'd be Abreau up there. Here is where I think ARod gets to much crap. The Yankees are the exact opposite of Cleveland this series. They are the anti-clutch. Not just ARod, the entire team. Need a pitch with 2 out to get out of the inning? Forget it.

Just look at the last inning. Damon pops out with the bases juiced and one out. Abreau nearly pops out and then hits a weak fly ball to center. The first guy makes 13 million, the second guy makes 15+ million. The Yankees aren't losing this series because of ARod and walking Jeter to get to him isn't the thing to do. Hell, before this game, you wanted to pitch to Jeter, because he was either striking out or grounding into double plays.

The Tribe have to get Byrd out of there though. He's a ticking time bomb.

When do World Series tickets go on sale, anyway? Doesn't seem to be any indication anywhere on the mlb.com site.

126 combined pitches in three innings. That'll make a game long. They started this at 5:37 MST? We should be done in four or five hours.

In other news, the Yankees can't get a clutch hit.

Hell, the Royals could have loaned the Indians Gil Meche, Brian Bannister, or Zack Greinke or closer Joakim Soria or, um... middle relief guy Joel Peralta. All of whom had higher VORP than Byrd. *sigh*

It's bad enough they make these guys talk to the media AFTER the game, why do they insist on doing these stupid in-game interviews. I hate them. They're worse in hockey, but still...

Does Torre retire after this? I mean, who wants him as their manager or more importantly for him, why go somewhere else and screw up your legacy as the "genius" that skippered those great Yankee teams of the late 1990s?

Magnificent, Bob? He flirted with danger every inning and got lucky the Yankees can't clutch a cold. Still, labored through 5 and only gave up 2 so there's got to be some credit given.

Is this back to being Major League standard for the 7th inning again? Because they did it at Coors for Game 3, too. I'm talking about God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch.

they have done it every single game at yankee stadium since 9/11...they dont have that annoying opera dude all the time, only special occasions...usually they have a 80 year old recording that sounds like crap and is as equally annoying, but doesnt take 15 minutes like that guy

I enjoyed the rendition to the tune of switching over to ESPN to check the Cowboys-Bills score

I know Yankee Stadium does it at every game. I just thought it was strange when they did it here on Saturday night. It was just some local girl. And the people next to me who seemingly come to every game, said it was an every game thing.

But I didn't recall it happening when I went to a game earlier last month. But...whatever.

Then we'll have to retire, "Vince Young just wins...he just wins. You can't measure his performance with stats. He's just a winner."

I had the same thought. Magnificent? I can think of a lot of quotes I'd use to describe Byrd's performence. Gutsy. Gritty. Brave. Maybe even a little "lucky"

But not magnificent.

As for Colorado, it does go back to 2001. They've did it at every game from 9/11 on.

As for Gwynn, I thought he was a little hefty as a player. He's looking a lot like Peter from the Family Guy at this point.

Gonna be Borowski in the ninth. Should be interesting to see if he can come thorugh.

I'd like to see ARod non-clutch another homer only for the Yankees to fall short by 1.
