I was wondering when he'd go.
kcchief is up, and once again has two picks this round as part of our trade.

Now that I'm afraid my other pick will be gone by my next selection, I'll go with Christopher Guest from movies. Spinal Tap, Princess Bride, Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind ... the list is long and distinguished. |

I thought long and hard about this pick...I really, really need some stand up comedians, but all my favorites are gone. Sooooo...I decided to go with someone who some of you might not like, especially those outside of the South. He gained a lot of celebrity 5 - 10 (I don't rememeber exactly when) years ago with his stand up routine and even parlayed that into his own (short lived) tv show. So, with no further ado...

I like the Foxworthy pick. You'll get some slack for it from people who only know him as the "you might be a redneck" guy, but he's a really good comedian. His stuff is family friendly, and for a good period of time he was the most popular standup comedian in the US. Sure, the redneck stuff became overdone, but even though it was his signature it was a small part of his act.
That said, betweem him and Robin Williams some voters may hurt you ...

Schmidty also sent in a pick (see how this works, people?):

At 6.9, I'll take one of my favorites in Mel Brooks, in movies.
Genius, from Blazing Saddles to History of the World Part 1. He acts, he directs, he writes, and he always cracks me up. Had to take him here because you crafty devils are taking my picks too often now. |

Nice pick.
Detox takes Chris Farley (sketch) and Vince Vaughn (movies). I really thought Farley was going to slip to my pick... damn you detox.

At 7.2, I'm going to take Eddie Izzard as a stand up.
If you've not seen Eddie preform before, do. He has some of the best stuff I've ever heard...just slightly goofy and with a bit of history thrown in to keep me happy. Again, he needed to be on my team and I was afraid he would get snatched away. |

Gene Wilder - Movies.
I've debated taking him several turns, so I'm very happy, and a bit suprised, that he's lasted this long. The man is hilarious. His performance in Young Frankenstein is a thing of beauty. It's funny that I chose him and Madeline Kahn, two of my favorites, back to back this late in the draft.

I already have Steven Wright. Might as well back him up with the guy who should have carried on his legacy. What a damn waste of brilliant talent... to be that good, and just throw it away.
At 7.4, I take Mitch Hedberg, standup.

This is someone I expected to go early, right around Mike Myers (for obvious reasons). He's been laying low for a while, but when I think of the greatness of SNL in the early 90's, he is a major part of why it was so successful.

Have to agree with ML on this one. The 3 Stooges are great because of how they all interact. I don't think I've seen any of them solo, which is kind of how we've been picking. It's more of the idea of individual comedy and greatness, at least IMO, and some groups just don't do individual comedy like stand up, or stand out above others which is how we've been picking for sketch comedy and movies. I was hesitant to pick Jerry Lewis because he was, for awhile, part of a movie duo (Dean Martin). But he had a pretty good solo movie career, too, which is why I took him. I love Laurel and Hardy, but how can I take one and not the other? |

Before Chaplin fell to me in Round 1 and took one of my movie spots, I was planning to use the 1.9 and the 2.2 for Abbott (sp?) and Costello. But it seems kind of weird to take one without the other. |

Where the hell is kcchief???? Doesn't the NFL draft have a time limit and if you can't make up your mind you get skipped and lose your pick? I'm thinking this rule would be good for whoever runs the next FOFC draft...

Everybody, please accept my apologizes for holding us up. This weekend my extended family did Christmas down in ol' Springfield, Missouri, and I poorly played my exit strategy. One thing lead to another and yadda yadda I left without my laptop and I was without Internet access.
Thanks for waiting. I might have been better off with Carrot Top. And while I don't Wayans' best work was in movies, I wanted to save my sketch comedy slot. But he's a talented standup, did solid work on SNL and In Living Color and stole The Last Boy Scout from Bruce Willis. He's a pretty versatile guy. |
