Feline took the early lead but she was actually way outside and by the time she made her way to the inside, she was in alot of traffic and got stuck. Imperatrice just didn't have the endurance today, we guess, or maybe the track was not to her liking.

Favorite has a very favorable post position while Purple and Ursulo could have trouble, though the field is relatively small for such a race.

There is no actual handicap of any kind on the entries.

We are used to our horses being at the top of the comparison chart. Now, if one of them not named BL can come through when it counts, that would be sweet. We figure that Favorite is the top horse when factoring in post position and form.

Once again we have a consensus for the win in Favorite (notice how I didn't say that Favorite is the favorite. ). She has a great shot, though she isn't the best horse in the field. Other factors are in her favor as well- form, position, etc... .

These are the favorites in the race based on a simple point system from the bookies and race mags. As mentioned, Favorite has a perfect score of 30, the 2nd horse to ever be so annointed.

Anyway, based on post position and statistical analysis (or wishful thinking), Almighty Farms has placed the following wagers:

Purple Terse

We suppose we should quit this 'every Almighty Farms horse needs to be bet on to give them a confidence boost' thing. Maybe next time.

The Race:

That's Preference gets the jump out of the gate with Rose second and Favorite third. Sultane In Blue is fourth followed by Purple Tearse and Dan Magesty.

As they settle in down the back straight, Babes leads over Rose and Favorite followed by That's in fourth, Kura d'un Amour fifth and Purple in sixth. Ursulo is seventh.

Around the final turn Babes, Favorite and Rose are even in front with Kura and Ursulo a neck off the pace and Purple 3/4 behind.

With 500m left in the race, six entrants are lined up across the grass course, all even. They are Babes, Favorite, Rose, Harmonie Du conte, Ursulo and Purple.

Passing the 400m pole, Favorite leads by a nose over Rose, by a head on Maestro de Marine, by a neck on Kura and 1/2 length on Babes. That's is in sixth while Purple is eighth and Ursulo ninth.

300m to the line, the whips are out in force. That's leads Rose and Kura by a nose while Maestro is down by a neck. Favorite lies in fifth, just up on Harmonie, while Purple is eighth and Ursulo fades to eleventh.

Down to 200m to go. Favorite pushes into first by a nose on Kura and Rose while Maestro is back a head. Harmonie sits fifth just up on That's while Purple and Ursulo are eighth and ninth, respectively.

100m from the finish line Favorite leads Kura by a nose, Harmonie by a head and Rose by a neck. That's and Maestro round out the top six.

With just 50m to go, Harmonie and Favorite are dead even with Kura a head behind. Rose is fourth, That's fifth and Purple has recovered into sixth.

25m from the wire, what a race, folks. Favorite is in the lead by a head over Kura with Rose just a neck behind and Harmonie dropping to fourth, 1/2 length off the pace. Purple is up to fifth, just ahead of Maestro.

At the wire, it's Kura. NO, Favorite. NO, NO, Kura. NO… Oh, Shit, let's wait for the photo to separate these two.

The Photo Wait: In the Booth

Stuart Scott: You've won your share of races, Lance, what's the hold up.

Lance Armstrong: Well, while I was beating cancer, thanks to the fine folks at Squibb (holds up drug container), I learned that you just never know what to expect.

Stuart Scott: Yeah, uh, booyah Lance. Mr. President, what do you think we are waiting for?

George Bush: I'd say they have yet to uncover the whereabouts of the alledged photo, Stu. While we all know it's there, somewhere, it can, in effactuality, be diffficult to find.

Stuart Scott: Booyah, GW. I hear ya.

Lance Armstrong: You know, some steroids are hard to find as well.

George Bush: A good VP is hard to find, also.

John Kerry: Unlike this photo, I had no trouble finding a candidate to run on my ticket.

Stuart Scott: Boooyah, presidential candidate Kerry.

George Bush: I'd say not, especially if, from the looks you two give each other and all the hugging, you just have to look under your bed.

Stuart Scott: Boooyah!! He could go all the way- to the White House.

Lance Armstrong: Which one, Stu?

Stuart Scott: Don't know, Lance, but I do know that Kerry and Edwards can't get married, even if they wanted to.

John Kerry: Stuart, (pointing finger at the camera) I did not have sexual relations with that VP candidate.

Stuart Scott: Oh, Booyah, is this the photo now? (takes package from flunkee) Oh, BOOYAHHHHH, it's a Paris Hilton sex tape copy.

Lance Armstrong: Sheryl is way better than Paris.

John Kerry: Is she rich?

George Bush: I can unequiverringly state that there are many videos around the country and we will find them, eventuarrilly.

(to be continued, maybe...the photo is on my puter at home, so it will be a while. )

That was one incredible race. Never more than a smidgen of a lead for any horse at any time and up to 6 wide at times. Of course, 6th from Purple is not what we expect, but at least her stable mate came through. We will, sadly, probably have to sell Ursulo, like we did Hold, in the not too distant future to make room for better stock.

---> Favorite is ranked #3 in the classification of biggest prize winners in her category.

---> Our fame score remains steady at 82. Again, however, despite an International win by an Almighty Farms horse, our stable ranking has fallen to #27.

---> BTW, the Triple Crown races kick off NEXT WEEK with the Kentucky Derby.

---> Fame and stable rank remain unchanged for the week.

I hope y'all realize that, in reality, it will be a miracle if BL wins even 2 of these races, much less all 3. Too many things in the game that can trip you up, no matter how good or how much better than the others you are, unfortunately.

Woot. What is the limit for horses in the derby? I mean you have all your horses in it. Seems a bit unrealistic, but go BL!!!

king, the most I have ever seen in a race is 20 and, since I've seen lots of races, I assume that is the limit. It does look really weird looking at the horses running and every other one has Almighty Farms silks on (slight overstatement, but not by much).

Iris des Pommeaux is out of the gate very fast and is still leading the race by 1 length over second place Artis into the back straight. By the last turn, Artis has taken the lead over Iris by 1/2. Escude picks his spot and gives Artis a swat. She takes off and leads Bronze by 2 1/2 with 200m to go. Bronze makes a charge, however, and trails catches Artis with 100m to go. Fortunately, the whip-meter has recharged and Escude bats Artis once more with about 70m to go, just enough for her to beat Bronze to the wire by 1/2 a length.

I think 20 is the limit for the Derby...they don't have room for any more gates.

As far as number goes, I've seen D. Wayne Lucas have five in the Derby at once, so your six is not out of line. Admittedly, that was five horses he trained...they were not all from the same stable

How does that work, Lokugh? Are all of theses animals boarded at the same stable for him to oversee, or does he fly around all over and just supervise?

BL has gotten a good draw with post position #3 but, unfortunately, none of our other 5 can say the same, including Imperatrice and Ursulo at the end of the gate.

Only Man Loss at #5 keeps Almighty Farms from sporting the top 6 horses in terms of statistical advantage. BL, as one would expect (at least until PT gets into training and catches up), scores a perfect 4.

BL is only the 3rd favorite in the race. We can understand PT being where she is, though her starting position will be a hurdle that is tough to deal with. Fortunately, the field for the race is not at all what we expected, which was a full 20 entries. Hopefully, the less crowded race will give all the Almighty Farms mounts with crappy post positions a better shot.

These are the favorites in the race based on a simple point system from the bookies and race mags. Delta was only 11th in the statistical comparison, but oh well.

Anyway, based on post position and statistical analysis (or wishful thinking), Almighty Farms has placed the following wagers:

Wager
Horse
Amount
Win
Beautiful Ladonia
$2,000,000
Show
Purple Terse
$500,000
Show
Feline
$500,000
With the odds on BL, we should make a bundle if, or should I say when, she wins (there, nfg, is that better? ).

A little of both. Often, training works like they show in this game. The stable owner hires a trainer who works just for him (or trains his own). This is also how it works in a lot of mid level stables and in Europe.

For a big stable, like Calumet Farms in Kentucky, they have their own facilities where horses are broken to saddle and trained to break from the gates (the two hardest things a horse learns, barring injury or psychological problems). Once they get old enough to race, they are handed over to racing trainers, some in-house, while the best end up with a big name guy like Lucas or Baffert, who have their own training facilities, often based at a major track (or at a smaller track within an hour or so of a big track).

If you are a mid-level or small time stable (those guys who bought Funnycide or the old couple who owned Smarty Jones who had sold all their other horses), then once your horses are yearlings, assuming you don't sell them, you send them off to some place like Emerald Meadows Ranch in California for initial training. Then once they are old enough to race, they get placed with a real trainer (perhaps a big name guy or one of the hundreds of lesser known trainers).

In either case, once a horse is ready to race, they stay with their trainer, not at their home stable, usually. A big name guy like Lucas does not usually do the day-to-day training. He will evaluate the horse and set up a regime, but an assistant trainer does the day-to-day work, Lucas only coming in two or three times a week or so to see how things are going. Lucas may have horses at two or three different locations that he is training or racing. The only horses that will see Lucas daily would be a horse getting ready for a big race, like the Derby or Breeder's Cup, or one of the Derby Tune-ups (Wood or Santa Anita). Then, for a couple weeks leading up to that race, Lucas will be hands on.

The kind of one horse, one trainer thing you see like in Seabiscuit, or read about in the Black Stallion novels is for mid-level and small time types that usually only have one or two racers at a time. By the time you get to be Bob Baffert or D. Wayne Lucas, you usually have too many horses in too many different levels of race trim to spend the time to watch every workout of every horse. Its at places like this that the next generation of trainers are born though. The Eclipse Award Winning trainers of the 2020's are getting their start right now as assistants to Lucas and Baffert and Co.

PT was able to move up a little and if she can only get clear around that last turn this thing could get real exciting for A. Farms.

BL's jockey needs to wake up or is BL just playing possum?

Jockey's are impossible to figure, kingfc. I see some races where a jockey NEVER goes to the whip and horses that are whipped just fly on by one-by-one.
