I saw some $1.92 today...though, it will probably go up a dime or something by the time I need to get gas next.

The price of gas dropped to $2.01 in Dayton today. It was $2.35 just a few days ago. Interesting how that happened the same day as the Bush speech. Coincidence?

Oil dropped to about $55 a barrel a few days ago, so this was expected. Right now we're around $2.10, but as I mentioned above, we've been floating between $2.05 and $2.35 for a few months, so this is nothing unusual. Despite the drop in the price of oil, I'm sure I'll see prices shoot up soon...right before I need to fill up, of course.

Well, it looks like the climb to $4 a gallon has begun. We're now at $3.09 for regular. I know some of you have been over $3 a gallon for some time. With Memorial Day around the corner, I suspect we'll see another $.50 jump fairly quickly.

I'm a little surprised that there isn't more of a public outcry over this. It's a bunch of BS with oil companies setting record profit numbers.

I guess America is more concerned with who got eliminated from AI or whether or not Britney's comeback performance was any good.

Well, if it's any consolation, any day now milk prices will skyrocket, so gas will cost less per gallon by comparision...

Ya it's something I always found annoying with Quebec is how much they either tax or charge for gas. Makes roadtrips to the East Coast intresting.

But it wasnt' that low for long, maybe two weeks or so. Since Katrina I think gas companies thought the lack of outcry after everyone's attention span was gone and folks were used to paying a dollar plus was a good idea. All I know is having to spend almost fourty bucks to fill a Civic is proof positive that something is wrong.

Here in Bellingham, the lowest price I've seen is $3.42 for regular, and I've seen it as high as $3.67 (today) at a Shell station a few blocks away.

It's horrible. I don't leave the city.

It doesn't seem that this is effecting anyone's lifestyle, gas consumption holds steady no matter what the price is. I wonder what price it would take for people to actually change.

I got one of those "boycott buying gas on May 15th" emails the other day. I spent a good part of an hour writing a several paragraph response how boycotts on gas don't change anything and that there are bigger problems to worry about like the out of control debt problems that Amercians have.

We've definitely been more conscious about consolidating our trips to and from Lexington. We live about 10 miles west of Lexington, and outside of a Kroger, KMart, and a few fast food joints, there is no shopping or restaurants here. So we do a far amount of traveling to and from Lexington (and of course, I work in Lexington) and we try to make a few trips as possible now.

But it does affect people's lifestyle. We still buy the same amount of gas, but we spend less on other things. Or rack up more credit card debt.

True, but my point was that it's silly to complain about rising gas prices when nobody drives less as the price goes up. (It's sort of like complaining about Red Sox ticket prices when they sell out every game). You can hardly blame the oil companies there. But do we have a cutoff point where people actually do what they have to do to cut back (move, take less vacations, public transportation)? Is it $5/gallon?

Well, I disagree. The majority of most people's gasoline usage is their commute to and from work. What can you do about that? It's not like most people can just quit and find a new job when gas prices rise. Or move closer to where they work.

Driving is a necessary evil to most of us. It's often very difficult if not impossible to change those habits.
