At least Cincinnati has been to a Super Bowl. The Lions are just silly. I live in the metro Detroit area, but lucky for me I grew up a Jets fan (they are much better )

Wayne Fontes has an awful reputation that I don't think is warranted. I mean, I know people think the guy underacheived, but he had a record of 67-71. There are guys with much worse records than that. The Lions had three double digit win seasons under his tenure, and haven't had a single one since. He made it to the playoffs 4 times (including an appearance in the NFC championship), and the Lions have only been there twice since then. Let's not forget that he also went against management in picking Barry Sanders. I'd think that the Lions would embrace a return to the Wayne Fontes era. It's only been a complete disaster since.

Hell yeah, we would. Wayne Fontes was a baffoon, but he at least won games and had some good players. Considering that he's pretty much been the Lions "best" headcoach in 30-40 years should tell you something.

Yeah, I'm a Broncos fan. I'm also a football fan. And what happened yesterday wasn't good for the game.

In my head, I understand all this evens out over the years. I know you remember 2003. Denver vs. KC, two 4-0 teams meet up at Arrowhead. Dante Hall returns a punt 93 yards for a TD. Chiefs win 24-23 in a game Denver outgained them 468-230.

And the Hall TD? Three clear block in the backs at the start of the return. Not those "well, it's a 50/50 thing" No, obvious, clear cut blocks in the back. Chiefs won the division by three games. . . yet there is no question that game had a big impact on both teams and at the time, it seemed like that could decide it. It felt sickening to lose a game because the refs missed an obvious call.

It doesn't feel any better when you win because of one. The only solace I take is in my analysis above. The Chargers aren't going to win a Super Bowl playing defense like they do. They were horrible. And have been horrible for two straight weeks. (did Norv even bother practicing a 2 minute defense in training camp this year? Just curious)

These two teams are going to have some fantastic games over the next few years. Everyone knows about the Chargers talent. What people might not know is this:

Cutler 25
Marshall 25
Scheffler 25
Royal 22

Ryan Harris 23
Ryan Clady 25

That's Cutler, his top three receivers and his two book end tackles. Throw in 22 year old Peyton Hills and 25 year old starting G Chris Kuper and you have 8 of the Denver starting 11 on offense 25 years of age or younger. That leaves one G, one C and one RB. The offense could be the start of something very special.

The defense? Good lord. . . HELP!!!

Felix just exploded past those initial defenders, and then a pretty amazing play from Jenkins. Encouraging if your a Cowboys fan.

Two obvious facemask penalties not called on Dallas so far.

That PI call easily could have gone the other way, if there was a ref positioned to see the handful of jersey.

I saw the one facemask that obviously should have been called on the run up the middle, but where was the other one?

Just went back to look at it on Tivo, and it was a palm at the crown of the helmet that caused his head to move like that.

They never replayed that part of the play so I only had first impression to go by.

This game is shaping up to be a repeat of the Broncos-Chargers game yesterday.

Tony Romo is what happened (fumbled the ball into the end zone and the Eagles recovered it)

That CB wanted nothing to do with Leonard Davis blocking downfield on that screen!

Romo seems to have shaken off his mistake pretty well. Before he would have let that bother him the rest of the game.

There we go.

Forget the INT and the fumble by Romo. At least I will. Little jitters..

Now fix the fucking penalties and we will win this game no problem. Step up Cowboys D. Step Up.

I know people say "you could call holding on any play", but watching games yesterday I was amazed at how many O-Linemen are now allowed to get their arms outside the opponents body and grab his jersey on his upper arms and shove him back without being called. It was all over slow-mo replays of run up the middle after run up the middle by most teams I was watching. It was borderline absurd: apparently you have to tackle the guy to get the call (which one of the Panthers did), although of course I saw one Chicago O-lineman do the same thing with no call on a big play. But really, it's like they just go "hey wait, it's been 15 plays since I called a hold, FLAG!".

This is going to be interesting. Is it going to be like yesterday, were it will be Philly's ball at the 1, or is it Dallas' ball, because there no whistle?
