Post Season
We earn the #1 Seed in the South Region. March 18, 2050 (1) #1 North Carolina (29-3) vs. (16) Morehead State (18-15) The first round game is a laugher, as it should be. We win this one 88-51. We had 5 players score in double figures today, led by Carrell with 16. Shorter had 14 while McAnally and Rosemond had 13 each.
March 20, 2050 (1) #1 North Carolina (30-3) vs. (8) Detroit (20-12) Detroit is a pretty dangerous team as an 8 seed. They are usually ranked and very competitive. They play us very tough for 40 minutes, but we outlast them and win this one with a 100-90 final score. We advance to the Sweet Sixteen! Today we had 6 players scoring in double figures. Our two highest scorer came off the bench in Schulte with 17 and Trudeau with 16.
March 24, 2050 (1) #1 North Carolina (31-3) vs. (4) #15 Memphis (23-10) There are no easy games left as all 4 top seeds in the South Region Advance, including the 2 seeded Kentucky Wildcats. But first we have to deal with Memphis. We pick up another 10 points victory, our second straight to advance to the Final 8 and 1 game away from back to back final Four Appearances. The final score was 89-79. All 5 starters scored in double figures today. Rosemond and Shorter scored 18 each to lead us. McAnally had 17 with 10 boards and Tomlin scored 10 with 11 boards.
March 26, 2050 (1) #1 North Carolina (32-3) vs. (2) #8 Kentucky (29-7) What a huge game. Kentucky knocked us out of the Final Four last year. We came back with a regular season victory over them this year. It is all on the line for a Final Four trip today. We completely dominated them from start to finish and advance to the Final Four with a 92-65 victory!!!! This is our second straight appearance in the National Semifinals!!!!
Final Four #8 Seton Hall #1 North Carolina #1 Oklahoma State #1 Syracuse

The Final Four
April 2, 2050 (8) Seton Hall (22-12) vs. (1) #1 North Carolina (33-3) We are heavily favored against this Cinderella Seton Hall team. Still, they beat other top seeds and can easily beat us if we don’t play a great game of ball today. Our defense stiffled them early and we jumped out to a 54-35 halftime lead. W enever looked back in the second half, kept the pressure on them and cruised to a 96-79 victory and earned a spot in the National Finals!!!
April 4, 2050 (1) #1 North Carolina (34-3) vs. (1) #2 Oklahoma (33-4) These two teams swapped the national #1 and #2 rankings all season long. It is only fitting that we have a showdown in the final game of the year to determine the National Champion. Neither defense showed up in the first half and both teams scored at will. The lead changed hands several time until we nailed a couple three pointers to take a 56-48 halftime lead. In the second half, the Cowboys came out hot and quickly erased the lead and built a 4 point lead of their own. We came right back and tied the game up with just 10 minutes left in the game. McAnally got into some real foul problems so we had to bring Lacour off the bench, just hoping he could hold things down until late. Little did we know that this move would alter the outcome of the game. Lacour played just 14 total minutes in this game, but scored a game high 29 points. He fueled a late game run that gave us a 6 point lead late. Oklahoma State fouled us, but we continued to convert the free throws. When the final buzzer sounded I looked up and saw: North Carolina 105 Oklahoma State 98 We are the National Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Halleluja!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!YES!YES! Do I hear we are the champions playing in the backgourd? I am going to grab a beer and bowl of popcorn and watch the "One Shining Moment" highlights before I head outside and riot a little. Take that Syracuse, in your ear Cologate! Although I guess without them you wouldn't have gotten here. From down on your luck and drunk in Syracuse to National Champs!! It's been a fun ride Marmel, Congratulations. It took a balanced and team with depth to get there. What a job off the bench by Lacour!

What a great job by Shorter and Rosemond to step up into starting roles, especially Rosemond who had limited experience. Losing four starters hurts though. Are you going to continue the dynasty? |

Coach Marmel retires with National Championship in hand.
North Carolina - Coach Marmel, with 882 career head coaching victories has announced his retirement from college basketball following a brilliant run through the NCAA tournament, ending with a victory over Oklahoma State for the 2049-2050 National Championship. Marmel finishes his career #3 All-Time in Victories. He has coached at Colgate, Hartford, Michigan, Oklahoma, Syracuse and of course, North Carolina. Marmel was named ACC Coach of the Year the last two seasons. He started his coaching career nearly a half century ago in upstate New York, taking control of Colgate. In his youth, he was just learning the ropes of coaching, and his performance was not quite up to par so he was let go. After doing nothing for a year, he took a job in his home state of Connecticut with the University of Hartford. He build Hartford up into a respectable program, and after pulling off a first round NCAA tournament he was one of the hottest coaching commodities in the land. He accepted a job with the University of Michigan in 2033, but left just 1 season later for a job with Oklahoma. He coached Oklahoma for 3 seasons, and in his final year, he amassed the #1 ranked recruiting class in the land. But it was then that his alma mater, Syracuse University came calling. There was no way he could turn the job down. In 2036 he took over the Syracuse program and had some great seasons, reaching the Final 8 twice. After a couple 19 win seasons and a trip to the NIT, he was on the hot seat. He rebounded with a NCAA Appearance, followed by a Sweet Sixteen appearance, but after that Sweet 16 appearance he was unceremoniously dumped by Syracuse University. Marmel was stunned, dispressed and angered. It was a great shock when he did not even take a year off from coaching but accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina. UNC is a very proud program who missed out on any postseason in 2043. Marmel took over in 2044 and immediately brought the Tarheel to the Sweet Sixteen, followed by a Final 8 appearance. The next two years saw second round exits from the tournament, but in the meantime he was amassing some great young talent of his own. In 2048, Marmel led his North Carolina team to the Final Four, his first ever trip to the Final Four. A heart breaking loss to Kentucky in the Semi-Finals ended that season. Just this past season, he returned UNC to the Final Four with a victory over Kentucky. In the Finals he knocked off the Cinderella Seton Hall Team and the Oklahoma State team to capture the National Championship.

Rumors have it that legendary coach Marmel’s son will follow in his father’s footsteps and try to become a college head coach.
Rumors out of Carolina have Marmel Jr., son of retired UNC coach, searching for a head coaching job in the southeastern portion of the United States. Preliminary interviews with UNC for the head coaching job led nowhere, as they are apparently looking for an experienced coach to take over. More details as we get them….

After seeing Lacour stats on the latests games of the season, it was no surprise to me that he helped you win the title. He is a shooting machine and nearly scores 1 point per minute (that is on yearly average !!).
Congrats Marmel for the NCAA title ! |
