The race for the title has gotten very interesting. Chris Snow has taken the lead after his 5th place finish. He now holds a small 3 point advantage over Nick Phillips. Robbie DeWeerd still sits in 3rd after his win, but is only 15 back of Snow. Anyone of these three can still win the title. Turd Ferguson sits in 4th, only 109 back. A few strong races from Ferguson to end the season and he may steal a title.

Nice showing for CW Racing, taking 6 & 7. Coming on strong in the end, at least, after a season of suck.

How both drivers get Top 10 finishes on our worst type of track is mind boggling. Especially, knowing how this season has gone so far.

All three of the main title contenders had good runs, all finishing in the Top Ten. It was points leader Chris Snow though who had the best day of the three finishing in 2nd behind Travis Elkin who dominated the final 135 laps of the race. Only 4 drivers finished the day on the lead lap and Elkin won the race by over 14 seconds. 2nd place in points Nick Phillips finished in 9th while 3rd place Robbie DeWeerd finished 7th. Chad Errington, who had been 5th in points finished 3rd. PHP Code:

It was a great day for Robbie DeWeerd despite not coming with the win. He led the most laps and finished 2nd behind Mustafa Henderson but most importantly gained points on Chris Snow and distanced himself from Nick Phillips. Phillips, who came into the day third in point finished 7th while the points leader at the beginning of the day, Chris Snow, had a solid day and finished 10th. It was Henderson's second win of the season, 15th of his career. Chad Errington continued his recent success with an 8th place finish. PHP Code:

After his second place finish Robbie DeWeerd has taken over the points lead by two points over Chris Snow. Nick Phillips sits in third 35 back. Who will it be? DeWeerd
is looking for title number one in season number one for him. Snow is looking for title #6 while Phillips is looking to tie Snow with 5 overall titles. PHP Code:

Great race for Robbie DeWeerd once again. He managed to finish 2nd and lead the most laps despite qualifying 37th great race for him today. He also finally does it and takes over in points with only 2 races left but will he be able to hold on to it only being 2 points up on veterans C. Snow and 35 up on N. Phillips. This season could come down to the final race.

Wow, he has to be the world's worst driver. How do we go from the #2 spot to another DNF? Par for the course this year.

The championship picture changed again as points leader Robbie DeWeerd struggled to an 18th place finish while Nick Phillips rebounded with a 4th place finish and Chris Snow led 94 laps en route to an 8th place finish. Snow will take over the points lead heading into the final race while Phillips will be close behind in 2nd. C.R. Anderson led the most laps with 152 but finished 2nd behind Dat King who led the races final 45 laps before taking the win. PHP Code:

Well here we go. One race left. Three contenders for the title. Well, four technically. Mustafa Henderson could still win the title if he wins and Snow, Phillips and DeWeerd all finish 35th or worse.
Snow holds a 20 point lead over Phillips and a 36 point leader over DeWeerd. Snow can clinch the title even if Phillips wins and leads the most laps only if he finished 2nd, or 3rd and leads a lap. Niether driver has much room for error. If both Phillips and Snow struggle even a little bit DeWeerd could very easily take the title. All three have a terrific shot yet. Phillips and Snow should be used to these closes finishes by now. In Season 8 Snow took the title over Phillips by only 1 point. Last season, Season 16, Phillips beat Snow by 18 points to take the title. DeWeerd is the young gun looking to take over the throne from the veterans. So what will it be? Title #6 for Snow? Title #5 for Phillips? Or Title #1 for DeWeerd? Homestead will decide it all. PHP Code:

The race for the title was all we could have hoped for at Homestead. All three title contenders stayed in contention all day. All three led at least one lap. And with one lap remaining, we still didn't know who the champion would be. With about 25 laps remaining final green flag pit stops began. Snow was the first of the contenders to put, Phillips and DeWeerd pitted 6 laps later. After the cycle of stops Snow was ahead of both of them but their newer tires, despite only being 6 laps newer, were a factor. DeWeerd flew through traffic, passed Snow and left Phillips behind. Snow ended up getting stuck in traffic on the outside lane and dropped a few more spots than it looked like he would. On the final lap, DeWeerd gained one last spot, passing teammate Jack Meeoff for 4th place, Phillips was finished in 8th, and Snow 13th, unable to get around Steve Bollea for 12th. What were the final standings? Closer than anyone expected. The next post will show how everything shaked out.

FINAL STANDINGS - SEASON 17
This was a first. By picking up that final spot on the last lap, Robbie DeWeerd ended with 2594 points. Chris Snow's final total. 2594 points. We have a tie. Nick Phillips finished only 2 points back, but in 3rd. So, who is the champion? What are the tie break rules? First tie breaker is total wins. DeWeerd has 2, Snow 2 also. So what is the next tie-breaker? Well, I couldn't find the official NASCAR tie break rules. But found two possibilities. Both come up with the same result. First tie break in one scenario would be 2nd place finishes. DeWeerd has 3, Snow 2. The other possibility is Top 5 finished. DeWeerd has 7, Snow 6. So, your FOFC Sprint Cup Series Season 17 champion is rookie Robbie DeWeerd. PHP Code:

"WOW..." - P.U.R.E Motorsports - What an incredible first season for rookie Robbie Deweerd 1st season 1st championship what a great way to start a career and an exciting one at that. Lets see what happens next season but overall we couldnt ask for anything more out of Robbie DeWeerd or Jack Meehoff who finished 7th overall. This is just a preview of seasons to come.....

The official NASCAR tie breaking rules are wins, then 2nd's, then 3rd's etc until you break the tie. Since Deweerd had more 2nd's than Snow, Deweerd should be the champion.

Yeah that was the tie breaker I kept finding the most. I wish I had those last 2 or 3 laps saved because they were fun to watch. When the race ended I wasn't even sure who was first in points until I got to the next screen. The finish was a lot like Season 8 where Snow finished ahead of Phillips by 1 point. One more spot on the last lap for Phillips and he would won that season. This season, one more spot for Snow or Phillips and either one would have beaten DeWeerd. Crazy. |

Snow, Phillips and DeWeerd in traffic. With about 4 laps to go, DeWeerd is making his move on the outside around King, Paige, and Elkin. Bryant and Meehoff are directly ahead of King. The lapped car of Sterling Silvers is between them and Phillips who is battling with Tolliver, Bollea, and the lapped car of McWerter. Snow is behind them side by side with Elliott Foley. Phillips Racing - What a season. Very intense the last couple of races and we came up just short. We need to find a way to get Nick Phillips in victory lane and Mustafa Henderson finishing more races. Not a bad season both drivers in the top 4 and one competing for a championship.
Looks like Phillips and Snow worried too much about each other and LET a rookie take the title. Next season will be different Phillips will be ready and Mustafa will take another step. Prediction next year is that "the rookie" that won this year won't in the top 5 and Snow will still be upfront, but will have another runner-up trophy to put on his mantle.
