no problem, and as I said, your new teammate Mark is a very nice guy. Lots of fun to chat with and he knows a thing or two about the game... Good luck with him. For some reason, I'm running into all sorts of bad luck troubles in that series. FM

Here's an ugly piece of BATracer behavior to look out for... Steven Buelens of "BATracer elite" joined one of my games, and 90 minutes later nominated his teammate for sacking. His complaint "worst setup for the last two races" Duh, could that have been because his teammate was AWOL, hence the replacement? And "hasn't shown yet for this round" - in 90 minutes.
I smell a rat. |

I love Batracer but it has almost got to the point of not being any fun anymore. The only way you can advance your ranking is in the public games. But all the ones I'm in now and have been in the past month or so are horrible. I get little or no help from any of my teamates. They either don't do any runs or hold out on their runs until the last minute so I can't benefit. I really wish the private leagues would count in the world rankings. Just my thoughts.

Yeah, but then people would just abuse the private games. Why not just ignore the world rankings?

I had a really weird sacking in the LMES game I'm playing right now. It was a guy with KT, nominating a guy who hadn't missed any sessions. I was all set to campaign against it, but the sackee never objected and was quietly replaced.

Private leagues are much more uneven in quality than the public leagues. You don't always have a full grid, sometimes they're themed so that drivers aren't picking the best combination of skillsets or the best car (in CART, say, where there's freedom to pick car type parameters and notable performance differences in chassis and engine). If you really want a good teammate, the way to get that is to coordinate with someone so that you both agree to go into a game, and the first one in sets a password for the second.

gah, had you told me this an hour ago, I would have been with you. I love V8! I just filled my fourth public game slot with a BTCC touring with Ron from PRC... I seriously need to cut down on my number of series though. I'm going back to work next week and dealing with 12 series at once will not be as much fun. Granted, three will come to an end before Monday, and a fourth out on Tuesday. Eight at once should be okay... I'm addicted to this thing, lots of fun. FM

A1 has a big premium on getting a good setup quickly. I'm usually in the top ten or so, but it's been a while since I got a pole. I typically run 20-50-80 for my starting guesses and then either 8-4-2 or 12-4(-4)-2. You also have to have the right characteristics. I'd say one of speed demon or committed is essential. At one point, I seemed to have a lot of luck pitting early in A1, but that doesn't seem to hold these days — there may have been a change in tyre wear vs. performance. Anyway, usually somewhere around mid-race is good for pitting, but it can sometimes work well to pit relatively late, as you'll often get the bonus point for fastest lap.

FYI, I also posted this in the clan chat on BATracer, but if you're like me, you don't read that religiously.
Check-in has now started! Due to the amount of time between people signing up and the start of the A1 Cup, you will be required to “check-in” by simply posting in the appropriate thread - see the A1 Cup forum at http://ftlog.org/batracercup Season Timetable alterations Here is a revised timetable for the A1 Cup: Deadline for entries: 10th August (If you register after this time you may not be able to take part) The draw shall be made shortly afterwards Round 1 signup: 17th August Round 1 start: 30th August The amount of people we get will affect the amount of rounds and make-up of the competition – this will be announced later this month. Clan advertisement! Could I ask you to advertise the competition in your clan chat (if you are in one)! Your clan would have excellent bragging rights if it had the 2007 A1 Cup Champion in it! Thank you for participating and good luck in the coming season(s). Michael Booth, A1 Cup organiser http://ftlog.org/batracercup

Dola, since that post doesn't really tell you anything about what the event is...
It's an organized competition conducted in private games. The field will be broken down into 30-member heats who will compete in A1GP private games. The top (n) from each heat will advance, the rest will be eliminated. I expect (n) to be determined based on the total number of entries.

First time through, I made it to the semis, but had an absolutely horrific run there. The way I remember it, it seemed like every race I would either have problems in practice, problems in qualifying, or problems in the race.
I would expect that the format will be adjusted somewhat, as they don't look to be hitting the targetted participation of 300.

I just updated my spreadsheet in which I keep all of the series I've participated in. I'm keeping track of how well I do in a midseason game, but always starting from the point where I join the game. I started doing that after my 5th or 6th midseason game and I just went through pulling the data to figure out how I did in those first 5 or 6. As I said, in my one public A1GP game, I finished 17th and it kind of soured me on the A1GP, but one of those midseason games was an A1GP. In that game, I finished 6th over the last 10 races of the season, with no wins, but two second places and one pole. Good to know...

it's a shame my public slots are all filled Kurtis cause I'd really like to team up with you at one point. Is the Reynar/Honda/Firestone a good setup for ChampCar or is anything good? I don't have a very good grasp of what's good with the ChampCar series. I did well in the FOFC series, coming in 3rd, but the other ChampCar I'm in is the special kind Pacific Racing Challenge where every team run the same setup, à la A1GP but in a team setup... FM

well, you must have signed up for the Academy one before you got KT, so not much you could do there. The A1GP, I ended up doing the same "mistake". I think the A1GP lends itself well to some sort of competition like the batracer cup, but it's really not for the beginners. I do agree that you have to pick your public games carefully and try to team up with someone reliable, and with whom you get along well. Makes it much more fun. FM

From 3 previous seasons of ChampCar, I am of the opinion that the Reynard Chassis is clearly superior to the other options. I think the Honda engine is tops as well, but not as dominant in comparison to the other options as the Reynard. Checking the top of the season standings in my prior ChampCar leagues, you'll find plenty of Reynard/Honda/Firestone combos
Still two seats available, fwiw - the pass protect is off now, I believe. |

okay, as if this was possible, this game just got so much better for me after I have discovered the flash sliders. I was tired of slip 'n sliding my way to that exact value in setup, but these times are gone. With the flash sliders, you can actually type in the value!!!
Posting this only in case you didn't know about it. FM

dola, and actually, the "no sliders" setting is the same, but it kinds of lacks the visual look of the setting that the flash sliders have, especially in the driving style and race strategy screens...
