Spain goes on. Great plays by Casillas, particularly on the de Rossi pen.

Roffle - I meant the diving events, but the point is made well.

Yes!!!!!! Soccer won today, fuck the non-soccer and the teams that just play to destroy it, huge win for the soccer world today.

Also the dispute between Casillas and Buffon to be the best keeper in the world had a clear winner today.

Kick ass Icy - good time to be there, right?

I dunno about the best GK in the world - in the end, I think its pretty universally recognized that t here is Buffon, Casillas, and then everyone else. That's good enough.

I agree with crappy. I think buffon+casillas are about equal - casillas had one great save and one poorly taken PK that he saved, and buffon had one poorly taken PK that he saved (poorly taken = on the ground within diving range of the keeper)

that's hardly enough to differentiate the two

Thank God Spain won. I can't stand the damn Italians....that's not soccer. It's easy to play aggressive defense when the ref looks the other way when it's in the penalty area. Spain should have had two penalties at least. I'm so glad Spain won, they deserved the win. With all their whining, flopping, and bitching, it's nice to see the Italians go home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wasnt as much annoyed with the ref as I was the commentator who bitched about him the whole game.

9 men behind the ball and the only one who isn't is diving all over the pitch. Good riddance to the Azzuri.

I'm happy that Spain won because it's saved us having to hear every 5 minutes about how all the group winners lost.

Andy Gray? I loved his comment about one of the many Italian flops "...looked like he got hit by a sniper" Good stuff. You could almost tell Andy was biting his lip to say the ref was pro-Italian.

for Spain!

They deserved the win and now we can have an entertaining SF with Russia and Spain and not the boring ass Italians.

I loved how Di Natale made the decisive miss. Served him right for his supposed to be injury that apparently required him to roll back on the field. Yuck.

Overhere we still call that place Turkey, but the way they played so far, "Germany" makes a lot more sense.

He was right about basically everything though. I mean, it's an absolute fact that referees call fouls inside the box and outside the box completely differently.

And he seemed to have it out for Spain. He once basically accused a guy of diving (Villa, IIRC) when it was a legit foul, then later booked him for diving when it didn't seem as if there was ANY attempt to appeal for a penalty.

I see nothing wrong with calling out the ref when he's having a poor game.

Same here. I wish more commentators would do so... and slam refs at every oppertunity when they see that happening.

Agreed. I prefer Andy Gray to Tommy Smyth as well. It seems like Gray is much more forthcoming with his honest thoughts during the match.

The commentators I despise are ones that take the refs side on everything. I know during American football there are commentators that are adamant there wasn't a penalty and then the ref says something and then they say, oh yeah, there was one. Drives me up a wall... don't be scared to call out the refs... what are they paying you for?

I doubt Turkey will collapse, but I expect Germany to be better in the second half. I still can't see Turkey getting a result from this game.

Dutch commentary was gone for most of the second half.

In the end it's kind of funny that Germany out-Germaned Turkey.

What a great show they've put on in this tournament! They've been a great story. So many key players suspended or hurt and they stretch Germany to the limit!
