A patch is to fix a problem. DLC is usually features that are considered enhancements that weren't included in the original game. Sometimes you pay for DLC and sometimes it's free.

Got it -thanks...

So what's the chances of EA really coming through with the DLC?

Considering they have already coded the accelerated clock and proclaimed it working, I think the chance of a DLC is high. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the list of what it includes changes.

Patch / Title Update (360 term) = code
DLC = data

DLC can be used to patch data, but you generally can't force folks to download it like you can with a title update.

The fun fallout for me over the '09 fiasco is that I think I'm far more likely to buy '10 now, given the dev response to the actual bugs. I think '10 has a good shot now at being a big step forward for all the franchises (Madden, NCAA, HC).

Actually, I think what I said, at least to myself, after getting '08 was "NEVER AGAIN!!! ARTGHH!!!!H!H!!!" *breaks Madden DVD and throws in trash*

I may be paraphrasing.

I agree, yet I'm sick of the next year promises. I'm skipping Madden for the first time in over 10 years this year. It would take very good reviews post patch/DLC before I'll even rent it.

The Wii version got an 8.6 from IGN. I might have to rent it and check it out. Madden was going to be the deal breaker for me on getting an Xbox 360 to go with my Wii.

Honestly, it sounds to me like this is the first year in a long, long time that EA have actually tried to get it right - I think it all began with NBA Live 08 actually, where the Dev team hit the message boards and made it seem like they cared. If they can keep that sort of attitude up, Madden should be a pretty sweet game in another 2-3 years.

Same here. This is the first time I have not purchased Madden since Sega Genesis.

I believe that this is the last Madden that was not in my collection

It's funny, but the PS3 patch is out already.

Quote:
1. Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
2. Solved a very rare stability issue that occured when using a couple of playbooks.
3. Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
4. Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occured while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
5. Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occured at specific points of online games.
6. Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
7. Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
8. The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it's affect.

Looks like the solo player franchise mode is pretty FUBAR'd. The "Franchise is Broken" thread on OS is growing at a pretty steady clip. Probably not a huge surprise for those that have been following the Abner posts.........

Franchise Still Broken - Operation Sports Forums

Bugs thread has a few pretty significant issues with stats and timeouts. The amusing part is that several of those posters note that the same bug was in the '08 version of the game.........

***Official Madden '09 Bugs and Glitches List Thread*** - Operation Sports Forums

Article in the NY Post discussing the decreasing sales of the Madden franchise. An analyst notes that stockholders will be watching the sales of this game closely to see if the decline continues this year.........

EA IS HOPING TO AVOID A 'MADDEN NFL' HIT - New York Post

The big change for me is the activity of the devs this time around. I don't remember them being nearly as active, talking about flaws, or trying to fix things in any past years.

That doesn't mean I'm preordering '10 now, just that it's the first time in a long time I've had hope for the next year's version.

I agree that the increased activity certainly can't hurt. My concern on that is they appear to be just looking to patch things up rather than tackle a true rebuild of what has become a pretty flawed game engine. It really needs an overhaul and the developers have already openly stated that their development cycle is VERY short at this point, so I'm not sure that there's any room in the development cycle to make the changes that are needed.

The fact that the HC developers took an older version of the Madden engine for their game speaks volumes about their feelings about the current engine.

EA Oops!
August 12th, 2008

On the last page of today’s USA Today, there’s a full page ad for Madden. The tag line is “since 1989,” and there are all kinds of old videogame hardware and televisions. It’s a cute ad, except for one thing: there’s a Dreamcast in the picture. You know the console EA pretty much killed by not releasing games for it. Um…how did that fit in the picture exactly?

i think i'm gonna pick it up cuz my friend is. i'm fine with NCAA '09 for my football fix (plus i can run the option which i can't do in Madden). but we only have COD4 in common and its getting a little old playing the same game. i don't need Madden for franchise play, but i can futz around with it and play it online with my friend.

The reviews seem to say that it'd be good if you strictly play agaisnt people. Dynasty mode is utter crap. At this point, Madden is a "No Sale!" for me.

One good thing about the bad NCAA and Madden games over the past two years is that the sites who obviously don't fully review games have become blatently obvious. Case in point: 1UP just posted a review of Madden 09 and gave it an 'A' rating. Unbelievable.

Same here. After reading all of the early impressions, I'm glad that I've finally broken the cycle of buying it every year on release day. Next year, is going to be a wait and see as well, even though I do find the developer interaction to be a positive.

IIRC Madden 09 is the first XBox game to come out since Madden 08, but EA dropped the GameCube version this year. Up through Madden 05 a version got released on the PS1.

Was just at ebgames and decided to grab NCAA 09 (PS2) instead of Madden 09. From all the bitching I've seen 09 is essentially a roster update and I'm happy enough playing 06 if that's the case. So, thought I'd give the college ranks a go as I haven't done so to date.

I'm a sheep (as I said in the other "Will you buy Madden?" thread). I bought the collector's edition for $5.38 at Best Buy when I redeemed $85 in certificates from Best Buy bucks.

I haven't played my copy of Madden yet (been playing HC09) but I would conisder selling the Madden copy to someone for cheaper than "new price" as long as I don't end up selling it for under a price that would net me HC at it's MSRP (49.99)...

I'll start the bidding. I'll give you a six-pack of Bud Light w/ Lime for Madden '09 (which I'll promptly donate to the local children's hospital).

No, you'll trade it in for cash, just like you do with all of your games you get for free cause some friend gets a review/promo copy.

Madden 09 is going to be pretty cheap very quickly on the used market. There's going to be a lot of early trade-ins this year.

Looks like the patch didn't fix the lock-up issue when exiting the Madden '93 gameplay. From the Sports Gamer Blog............

Quote:
The edition of Madden 93 is crippled. Exhibition play only. That’s a bummer. Not a huge deal, but silly still. Oh, and my PS3 locked up when I quit the game. This was post patch.

In fact, it locked up so hard that I had to actually use the power switch to power off the PS3… not just hold down the power button on the front. Strange.

yeah, if I wanted to hear about how EA is the anti-christ I'd go over to the OS Madden forums...where the average age range of the posters are 15-17.

I thought it was a fair offer. You know......inBev owns A-B now. That should improve the value of a six-pack of Bud Light right there.

Yeah, why go over there when we can come to the FOFC forums and hear you dismiss all of the major issues on Madden '09 as being nothing more than isolated incidents.

So how long is your commute from the 'Bay Area' to the EA offices?

Yeah.. do we REALLY need to copy every blog and OS post about each glitch Madden has?

I mean, the NCAA thread was enough for me to ignore it, but it's getting old.

I'm loving NCAA and Head Coach has been great.. I'm not saying don't post about issues you encounter, but when you haven't even played the game, why copy and paste?
