Indeed... vulnerable Barney was beyond hilarious. Buying CRTs for smashing... awesome.

I really like what they are doing with the Barney/Robin thing. Moving it along, but not too fast.

The Magazine subplot was not my favorite, though Marshall's reaction to the hammer was awesome.

The magazine subplot was somewhat of an attempt at Seinfeldian observational humor... but not done as well.

I did like the Barney had his own private bathroom the entire time... and he assumed they were talking about masturbation.

Yeah the magazine thing was a bit stiff. It was a funny idea, and you could see where it could have gone well. But Frankly, resting a whole subplot on Marshall just doesn't work.

Marshall constantly standing there while they were recuperating from sex though was well done, as well as Barney's strained attempts at his usual banter.

Once again though, as I do with this show, I grow bored with it when there is no progression toward meeting the mother. They have to give me at least one out of every five episodes dealing with that.

Not to mention, I wonder who would tell their kids about the friends with benefits plan they had with their Aunt Robyn.

LOL, I was thinking that as well. But, of course, that's just a narrative device now.

LOL

But I do agree - give me some sort of progress towards meeting the mother. That's the payoff of the whole damn show and it's going to piss me off if it's never addressed or it's totally given short-shrift.

Maybe it is Robyn. Maybe Robyn & Ted & Barney have a polygamous Canadian marriage where Robyn has two husbands? That's allowed in Canada right?

*grins and ducks*

Meh... they'll get to it. I'm not all that focused on progressing towards finding the mother. After all, it's a comedy show. I prefer the more 'amusing stuff that comes up or has been invented among friends or in relationships'. Stuff that Barney comes up with that dominate the entire episode (like the NCAA bracket of people he's screwed) is awesome.

FWIW, I've always had the good sense to say "I wish that my best friend owned a bar."

I had a sense that actually owning one myself would suck

I thought last night's episode was pretty "meh" honestly. Too much time on the Marshall/Lily thing for my taste. I know the actor who played Marshall is moving into movies so maybe they're trying to capitalize on that, but IMO it just wasn't all that funny an episode. It was just missing something - I don't know exactly what.

CBS Mondays usually have me in stitches from 8-9:30 - like literally gut-busting laughter. Last night I rolled on the floor from 8-8:30 (that was a damn funny Big Bang Theory - although not enough Kaley Cuoco hotness IMO), chuckled a few times at HIMYM, and was laughing throughout 2.5 Men.

Finally watched Monday's episode on DVR and we LOVED it, especially the ending which is one of the best sitcom episode finishes I've seen in a long time. Good, clever, funny storyline.

BBT and HIMYM both delivered last night and had me belly-laughing for a good hour. In fact, 2 1/2 Men was funny also, so make that 1.5 hours. That's what I like from my Monday nights after having had to go back to work.

Hmm... I have to disagree with DaddyTorgo.

I thought that was one of the worst HIMYM I've ever seen.

nah - plenty of NPH I thought made the episode. Plus the bit at the end where he gets Robin a job I thought was actually really cute/sweet/whatever. Because we as viewers "know" that he did it because he loves her, so watching him try to play it off as "just because i'm awesome" was a nice like...payoff.

*shrugs* but to each their own.

The part where he got down on one knee in the background when she looked like she would have to leave the country was great as well.

Really enjoying this season.

I don't recall how the rest of the episode was, because the first glimpse of Barney with his tux and glasses on had me laughing so hard I had tears rolling down. God, I love Barney.

Weird episode last night. Just some dude in front of a podium talking the whole time. Who was that guy, anyway? I don't think I laughed once. You'd think if they were going to show an episode without commercial interruption like that, it wouldn't be such a stinker.

Was there a new episode this week? Our DVR info said it should have been one, but it was a repeat.

There was supposed to be, but then President Obama wanted a press conferences, so it was switched to a repeat.

Great episode -- possibly the best ever.

Big Bang has made its way up the DVR list to where I almost always watch it the same night that it is on.

No love for the first episode in nearly a month? I was in stitches. Barney-centric is the way to go.

I was laughing good and it had me speculating the whole time about twists. Up until somewhere in the middle (the part where the actress & ted had the spark and you could call what was going to happen) I was thinking that Barney was actually married or something and had planned it with his wife to play like an actress if they were ever discovered. sort of a double-switcheroo.

I thought that was a horrible episode. Once again, becoming quickly disillusioned with the show which probably means next week, we'll get some more mom story lines just to suck me back in.

You can't go wrong with a Barney-centric ep... add in Ted stuff and it's a winner.

I thought HIMYM and Big Bang were both A+ episodes last night.

Big Bang has been running on all cylinders all season and HIMYM has improved over last season.

Heh. Different strokes, because as soon as they start doing the mom shit I start to tune out. The only times I like Ted is when he's making a fool out of himself (which is seems like they've been doing more this season).

Agreed. Serious, romantic Ted is usually pretty boring for me. Ted reluctantly going along with Barney is when he is most entertaining.

The flashback of Ted directing the children in a play had me cracking up.

I enjoy both. I love the main storyline about finding the mother and the soft side of me does genuinely like the characters and likes seeing the relationship stuff. But I don't really care if they're not diligently advancing the main storyline each week either, because the comedy in the show is outstanding every week and I thoroughly enjoy it.

IMO, if you're disappointed after a barney-centric episode, I don't know why you're watching the show at all. That's just outstanding comedy.

While I do enjoy moving the main story every once in while, there are sometimes when I just enjoy HIMYM being the vehicle that allows Neil Patrick Harris to make us laugh .
