Ah...wasn't looking at the order of folks, and the earlier double pick has me jumpy.
That said, we've drafted three people today. This draft is moving slower than Bob Dole's bowels. :P |

This past day or two of (lack of) picks sort of indicates the need for a new rule. I think everyone should PM their next pick to WSUCougar. Maybe your guy'll get taken before the pick. But I can't escape the impression that we are wasting hours here where people know who they waant to take, the person is vailable. But they don't log on for sixteen hours and miss their picking slot for the whole day. Everyone's got lives. And there are the time difference issues. So maybe we all need to have at least one pick sitting in the queue. |

In the category of Best Supporting Actor I choose... Anthony Hopkins I don't think I need to list his accomplishments. I will announce my consecutive pick in a few hours after I'm done with my classes.

Barkeep, you already had filled your Musical slot with Ginger Rogers (it is only one, not actor & actress both). You can either take her or Gene Kelly in another category, or select someone else and put Gene Kelly back in the pool.

I'll select the best person in any category left available. I wasn't going to go this route. But I have to take the BPA when he's this great.

He was nominated for such diverse movies as Ben-Hur, Roman Holiday, Mrs. Miniver, The Heiress, and Detective Story. He also directed over forty westerns. Very nice Pick with Wyler. I was thinking the next director was gonna be someone else. (I actually saw this guy going before Tarantino) But Wyler is someone completely forgot about...even though he was the director of a very good The Best Years of Our Lives. (If you haven't seen it you should!! World War II fighters come home and adjust to lives back in the states)

Actress(comedy) is another very difficult category. My pick here is an actress who's as funny as she's versatile and talented - she has six Oscar nominations, winning for her role in the drama "Terms of Endearment". Many people remember other roles, such as the lead in "Irma LaDouce", "The Apartment", and even with Mr. Eastwood (who's been picked already) in "Two mules for sister Sara". Ladies and gentlemen, my choice here is Shirley MacLaine.
(Edit: the sixth, and only non-acting Oscar nom, was in the "Best Documentary" category.)

With my pick, I select the kind of action hero a man could be proud to emulate: suave, sophisticated, cool gadgets...and he always got the girl. I draft: Bond. James Bond.
That is to say, for Actor (Action): Sir Sean Connery Aside from cementing Bond as a figure of 20th century entertainment, Connery has been a fine dramatic actor as well, with key parts in films like The Longest Day (with the Duke), Murder on the Orient Express, A Bridge Too Far, Highlander, Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, and The Hunt for Red October. The key to a truly great action star is not his brawn -- it's his charm, and Connery's characters have always had a wit and intelligence most action stars could never approach. We'll take the knight. |

With the last pick of the fourth round, I will select the man who has played such diverse roles as Michelangelo, Andrew Jackson, Marc Anthony, Cardinal Richelieu, and of course Moses.
I give you the man who made the line "Get your hands off me, you damn dirty ape!" famous and who won an Oscar for the leading role in one of the greatest epic films of all-time. I give you one of my personal favorites - Charlton Heston for Actor/Action Although many of his movies are not cinematic masterpieces, most are entertaining and Heston usually performed at a high level. He did historical dramas, westerns, disaster flicks and wasn't afraid to do sci-fi at a time when many other actors felt it was beneath them. Quote:

I feel fairly confident that my picks in the remaining categories are safe, so I choose an actor will probably not make it back around for me.
The first pick in round five is: Gene Hackman - Supporting Actor Although he won a Best Actor Oscar in 1971 for his portrayal of Popeye Doyle in the French Connection, Hackman is at his best in supporting roles. His list of movies is quite impressive: "Bonnie & Clyde", "The Poseiden Adventure", "Young Frankenstein", "A Bridge Too Far", "Superman", "Uncommon Valor", "No Way Out", "Wyatt Earp", Get Shorty", "Unforgiven", and "The Birdcage" are just a few of his movies. Dramas, comedies, westerns, whatever. Gene Hackman can, and has done it all. Last edited by SplitPersonality1 : 02-06-2004 at 01:16 PM. |

NICOLE KIDMAN (actress/drama)
This goes beyond the fact that I've always thought she was extremely hot. She has become one of the most critically-acclaimed actresses of this generation, with an impressive range of roles. Of particular critical note were To Die For, Moulin Rouge, & The Hours, although I liked many of her other roles more. Some might call this a reach but I wanted to grab her (in more ways than one) now since it's a long haul until my next selection. NoMyths is up...

This is a need pick, because this category are quickly running out of good candidates. She has starred in "My Fair Lady", "Mary Poppins", "Victor/Victoria", and of course, "Sound of Music". Blessed with one of the finest voices in the genre, this one-time Oscar winner, three-time Oscar nominee and my pick for the Musical category is Julie Andrews.
