Tons of news today. First, Capcom announces no future versions of SF5 will be on the Xbox platforms.
Xbox Will Never Get a Version of Street Fighter 5, Says Capcom Rep - Yahoo Games I know someone will ask, so here's the May NPD numbers. Basically a reverse of last month, with the PS4 outselling the X1 in the U.S. by the same amount that X1 won last month. Quote:
Fallout 4 gameplay video is out. Our First Real Look At Fallout 4 Dishonored 2 is officially announced with trailer. Dishonored 2 Announced, Lets You Play As Emily Doom trailer is out. An Up-Close, Ultra-Violent Look At The NewÂ*Doom Ready for the big day tomorrow! Can't wait for the console press conferences! |

Not sure I have enough words to express my shock & awe after the Fallout 4 presser tonight.
That's the most ... marvelous f'n thing I've ever seen. The potential of simply the addition of (re)construct-your-own settlement. There's at least two full games within one right there. This might very well be the literal last game I ever need. One question: there's a game -- one of the Dragon Age series maybe? -- where you "build" houses in a somewhat similar way. I know it's something pre-industrial 'cause swords & stuff. But you get blueprints, choose which types of rooms & additions you'll add on to the basic house, etc. But what the hell game am I thinking of here? I'm drawing a total blank beyond those details.

Not sure if it's the one you're thinking of, but that sounds like what you can do in Skyrim. |

No, it's not Skyrim. In it you bought houses then furnished the interior. In the one I'm trying to remember, you bought (or earned somehow) a basic house and then improved it (the process involved you standing over blueprints at a drafting table, making sure you had provided enough supplies -- lumber, nails, glass, etc -- for whatever optional "wing" you wanted to add. So for one house you'd add say a greenhouse & a library. Another would get something like a barracks & a barn/farming related, etc. You'd sort of "issue the work order", leave & do whatever quest, come back & those things would be added.

Dragon Age: Inquisition has a little bit of that, but its no more involved than improving houses in Skyrim, really. I think the closest we have seen to that in a big title are a few of the mods for Skyrim that do exactly what you are talking about.
I was also blown away by what they showed of Fallout 4. I might show my approval by buying my first ever collector's edition of a game, especially if I start to see evidence that they have improved storytelling through NPCs at least a little. (It would be nice if they make them seem a little less like robots than your normal Bethesda game. Except for the robots, those should probably keep acting like robots.) |

I wasn't really impressed with the reveal. Fallout 3 and NV were some of my favorite games ever (3 more than NV which I hit a bug that completely 100% stopped my game for 2 months about 30 hours in) so I know I will still play them.
EDIT: It's completely amazing that this will out this year though! Day 1 buy based on past history alone!

Doom looked significantly better than I had been expecting. Makes me which I had sprung for a GTX 980 instead of the 970.

And the Microsoft conference is finally getting interesting with the Dark Souls III reveal.

I would be shocked if they opened up that can of worms. With that said, really excited to hear the backwards compatible announcement. Really needed one of the consoles to make the jump to push the other ones. |

Backwards compatibility has me considering a new XBOX now.

Main concern is going to be how many games they actually allow to be backward compatible. I heard 'list of compatible games' and shuddered. We went through that with the PS3 and support was mixed, though I will say anything is better than no backward compatibility. |

After reading how it works I wouldn't expect to see older versions of sports games. It's not true backwards compatibility where your XBox One will be able to run 360 games, the game has to be made to run on the XBox One and the publisher has to allow it. A rerelease like this probably wasn't included in the licensing deal with the NCAA so EA may not be able to make those titles available. |

There's a Skyrim DLC that lets you do just that. The core game only lets you buy pre-existing properties, but Hearthfire lets you build your own. I've gotten to the point where BC would be a compelling feature, yes, but if I buy an Xbox One, it'll either be as a dedicated Rock Band platform so I don't have to reacquire DLC, or it'll be when it's sub-$200. Maybe both. |

Well damn, you're right. And after refreshing my memory with some Wiki pics, it IS Hearthfire I was thinking of. How that got twisted around in my head as being from another game {shrug} chalk it up to old age & quite a while since I've played Skyrim. edit to add: The thing I remembered about it was the "drafting table" mechanic. And the reason it came to mind was how F4 talked about it in terms of there being "zones" (or something to that effect) where you could build these new buildings & eventually settlements.

I agree with this statement. With the 360 compatibility program, a lot of the original Xbox games that I wanted to play were never made compatible. Hopefully it will be different this time. I doubt it though. In the end pretty much the only games I would want to dig into are the RPG's that I haven't finished, those usually age pretty well. I'll stick with current gen consoles for FPS and stuff where the eye candy is 60% of the experience. |

Supposedly the developer has an interview scheduled for Tuesday to discuss this. We'll see. He hasn't been too forthcoming with information thus far, but if there is a time to reveal things it is at E3. Licensed or not, all I want to hear is that there is the ability to share rosters and edit uniforms.

I was underwhelmed by Nintendo's digital event. It was very nice to see more of Star Fox but there were no jaw-dropping moments. I'm not much much into multiplayer so the announced Zelda and Metroid games don't excite me.
I'll definitely be getting Fire Emblem Fates and Xenoblade Chronicles though. ETA: Mario Maker and Yoshi also look interesting enough, but there was hardly any new info on those games.

I've always questioned how Nintendo does business. There's never enough Zelda or Metroid games.
I think Metroid Prime is the greatest FPS ever made. They need to give us more on the Wii U.

This is exactly what they do right. By spacing them out a bit they keep the demand high and lessen the risk of Guitar Hero-ing themselves right out of the industry. They basically sell entire lines of hardware just on those games, they can't risk damaging the brands with rushed games or oversaturation.
