Great line from Clive Tyldsley - 'I think the linesman was drawing the referee's attention to the fact that there's three players on the pitch that he hasn't booked yet'

FWIW - IMHO Deco & #17 both deserved yellow and no more in the previous incident.

A typical performance from England toward in vein with the rest of this world cup imho ... not great, just enough to do the job and a small smattering of luck to ensure that things stay on course ...

Its been a strange world cup so far, I've seen England teams play SO much better in past tournaments and yet not have such consistent results - so here's to 'just enough' continuing ...

I wonder if either side is going to officially protest the results with FIFA?

If the Dutch score, we might see 7 on 7 in the extra 30 minutes.

He's having a Graham Poll style meltdown - unfortuantely there's 15 minutes left for people to get even instead of 5 this time.

Not sure about Deco's card - he over-reacted, but common sense says don't send him off

The guy in the US-Italy game got a lot of minor decisions wrong, but excepting Pope's 1st yellow card, got the major decisions right

This guy has lost it English-referee-in-the-WC-style

Great shout (even if largely it would mean that England's next opponents might have to start with a GK in an outfield position )

David Pleat - 'I hope Jan Venegoor of Hesselink doesn;t get booked, thaat would take another couple of minutes off the game'

Kuyt seems to have really missed a lot of opportunities in there. I don't just mean shots, i mean even posessing the ball in key situations.

I thought the Portuguese goalie had his leg amputated, the way he was writhing on the ground. But he can kick the ball the length of the field two minutes later.

There should be a rule that if you require a stoppage for your injury, you should have to sit out ten minutes, minimum, unless there's a substitution.

This isn't football. Or soccer. This is flopball.

15 yellows so far. I hope FIFA is enjoying what they've done to this year's tournament.

Not sure how much of this is down to FIFA - I'd blame it more on both teams being niggly and the ref going nuts.

Now that there aren't stoppages and penalties everywhere, this is a rather entertaining match. I guess 10 v. 9 encourages wide open play.

The players are angry because the referees are buying all the flopping about and handing out cards for imaginary problems.

Wouldn't you get angry if your opponent faked an injury and was rewarded by a referee who wasn't watching closely enough?

I understand where you're coming from, but this would be license to injure the opponent with a YC challenge, but not meriting a red. I'd take a yellow card if the opposition were a man down for the next 10 minutes.

I was thinking earlier that maybe you shoulf forget stopping the game for injuries, treat them as the game goes on (rugby style) but again there would be a certain license to injure the opposition.

If the player who caused the injury were to be off the field for the time it took to treat the 'injured' player, it would be license to fake injury.

This is the biggest problem right now in football - diving and getting up is almost becoming acceptable compared to rolling around feigning injury, a fact that is scandalous.

In England, and (as it would appear from this board) the US, such actions are ridiculed, and players soon stop. However this must not be the case elsewhere in the world. It is a problem, without an immediately obvious solution.

One answer might be to remind refs that just because it is a foul, and a FK, it is not necessarily a yellow card.
