I was searching for something else and randomly ended up on the thread for the 2007 signing day. Just a tremendous number of names you would never recognize today. Serves as a good reminder.

Somewhere there has to be an analysis of how many 4-* and 5-* recruits have one senior awards, and how many end up playing in the NFL for more than 1 season.

Clemson signed a nice 8* recruit today when DE Vic Beasley decided to return for his senior year.

Well, he's 3 stars on special teams, 3 stars on defense, and 2 stars on offense.

2nd in the Nation in sack, and 2nd in the nation in TFL. Only his second year ever playing DE and his first year starting at the position... Just a joke, obviously. But he would have gone late 1st early 2nd in the draft. Not many of those come back for one more ride. |

Word is he's now considering Washington & UCLA. He'd be a huge statement get for Chris Petersen in his 1st recruiting class for the Huskies... |

Actually, the class is shaping up pretty good for a transition class. But landing Baker would shut up a lot of skeptical Husky fans that think Petersen will have a hard time recruiting at the P12 level.

I'm guessing you close on Carta-Samuels and McGary. Who else out there that is realistic? Griffin? Maybe Tre Watson?

Here's my read on things - I think Pete flips Jaylen Johnson, Greg Gaines, Aisea Tongilava and K.J. Carta-Samuels (if offered). I think he lands Dante Pettis. Kaleb McGary will be a big test - he apparently loves the small-town vibe of Oregon State, and that may be too much to overcome. Khalil Oliver will be a battle with Oregon most likely. Kammy Delp and Demario Richard are longshots, but possible. I would think that Pete can flip either/both of Jomon Dotson and Tre Watson if he goes hard after them, but who knows. No idea on what level of interest Kalani Vakameilalo has, but obviously some if he's visiting this weekend. I think he'll get Shane Bowman to flip from Oregon State. And I suspect he'll be able to flip Koa Farmer from Cal. Might be able to flip Malik Dorton too, seems like Sark is cooling on him. |

What's the latest on Baker? I think escaping UW without a verbal is good for UCLA's chances

I keep thinking that his mom's health situation will ultimately sway him to stay home and not force her to have to pack up and move down to L.A., but who knows. Clearly he's very interested in UCLA, so the distance thing obviously isn't a deal-breaker. The other thing that gives me some optimism is I keep hearing that Petersen is very similar to Butch Goncharoff, his H.S. coach, and that Petersen's style is very much in line with what appeals to Baker. |

Interesting little side story happening this weekend in FL.
Richard Yeargin III is a WDE/OLB (listed as 6'5" but a legit 6'4" and 220...) who has been committed to ND since the summer. Clemson liked their chances prior to his commitment but then backed off. Late in the season he reached out to CU coaches and came on a surprise visit the next to last week of the season. Contact has maintained since then culminating with an in home from Swinney and (DC) Brent Venebales earlier this week. Privately the coaching staff thought they had a signing day flip IF they missed on both of their remaining DE targets... Well today RY3 de-committs from ND shocking the Clemson staff and leaving them scurrying... Last edited by CU Tiger : 01-25-2014 at 08:13 AM. |

Not a great couple weeks for ND's D-line players/targets.
Can't get too mad, because we just went and poached a pretty decent DT from Rutgers. Round and round it goes. |

I know Mama is still scheduled to come to BYU at the end of the month or the big recruit visit. If he cancels that trip we will know. I have never thought BYU had a shot with him, but I would like to think we will because he plans on going right on his mission.

May not be the right place to ask this question, but since the subject is up ... I thought missions were two year deals, or maybe 18 months with some training/preparation time ... but a local kid here just got his assignment (or whatever the right word is) and it's for 4 months to Alaska. Do the lengths vary or would he get a different assignment for the balance of it, or ???

Typically it's 24 months, sometimes they are sent locally for a few months while their visa's clear on foreign missions. One of my best friends son was sent to Orlando, but he was learning Haitian and sometimes it's a temporary assignment. I would wonder if he is hitting a specific language region of Alaska or if his mission papers are spelled out in detail, 4 months in Alaska, rest in the Northwest Territory after his papers clear.

LOL, looks like that might bump Mizzou above BYU now, don't think he has any pics like that from Provo. I would rather land Devon Blackmon anyway, would give BYU the best deep threat they have had since Todd Watkins and he would make a nice 1-2 punch with Nick Kurtz. Nah, at 6'4 318 he's too small for that at ND Maybe eventually, but right now he projects as necessary depth along the D-Line for ND. Not that Mokwuah really looks like he'll be an impact player in 2014, but the O-Line is stacked at the 2-deep and the D-line depth chart is extremely thin since we've lost Nix/Tuitt/Vanderdoes/Dickerson recently (Yeargin projects as an OLB, and who knows, he might come back if Clemson doesn't actually offer him).

Word on Budda Baker is pretty quiet on the UW front, which makes me hopeful. Even the homers seem completely in the dark, which is a farcry from the Myles Jack recruitment

Yeah, even I think that one is wildly optimistic. Although I don't think UCLA would be too unhappy with that outcome, as it would mean a certain other S ended up in Westwood

Baker keeps things very close to the vest. I'm not sure if it was 247 or Rivals, but one of his visit reports from this weekend at UCLA apparently mentions his mom is still concerned about the distance factor of L.A., which makes me hopeful he stays home. We'll see though - clearly he's got a very strong interest in UCLA.

What's the West Coast read on Quick? The ND guys who have basically given up on Juju still seem to think we have a decent shot at him (with OU still the favorite).
Past that, our 3 main targets (Mckenzie, Alexander, Sawyers) remaining all seem to be coming down to ND or.... Ole Miss, so yikes, but if they choose ND that means they have their priorities straight. LB commit Kolin Hill also received an offer from childhood favorite Texas once Strong took over, so we may lose him, but it's understandable if we do. Other than that hopefully there's no signing days surprises. |

Quick is probably 80/20 Oklahoma/UCLA
Why did the ND guys wait so long to give up on Juju? He's not 100% USC but he's pretty dang close |

Because he would always mention ND as being in his top 3/top 5, even if it was obvious USC was the heavy #1. Plus it's USC, so you always have the people that think he might pull a Te'o.

The Admin on the OU board is up to 99.9% on Quick to OU. He never gives odds like that. Almost wonder if he's a silent commit.

Now the question is, will they talk him out of going on his mission? He turns 18 he is eligible to go now. He is taking about going right out. If so, I doubt he signs a letter for anyone and heads out. Doesn't mean much for BYU because if he is going to choose USC now, he will when he gets back.
