Yeah, since right before they last won the World Series. I became a Cardinals fan during the '82 season. Sorry, dude!

Here's a formula the Cardinals like to use:

Pitching = no hitting
Hitting = no pitching

A pox on both your houses.

Losing to the Padres and Reds?

Unacceptable.

Ooof. That hurt.

It is becoming increasingly clear that this Cardinals team is just plain mediocre. They do not deserve to make the playoffs.

Of course, I don't think anybody from the Cental division deserves to make the playoffs, but somebody will have to. It doesn't really matter who, though, as whichever team wins the division will get immediately bounced out of the playoffs.

If the team that makes it from the Central gets hot at the right time, though, who knows how far they could go?

The Redbirds have become too frustrating to watch right now. For that matter, listening on the radio is just as intolerable. I turned the game on yesterday and it goes something like, "Thompson in out of the bullpen...Bay will be walked intentionally to load the bases...which means the Pirates have batted around...this is the third time the bases have been loaded this inning...6-0 Pittsburgh..."

I can't stand it.

What has happened to Taguchi? His defense has been terrible this year.

I hate listening to the TV broadcasters. "Look on the brightside, at least So had two hits today" DOH!

Ouch!

Well, what would you expect from a Cardinal against Iowa? We already know that the Cardinals can't beat the Cubs outside St. Louis.

That reminds me. If you ever come up to PNC, bring money for food. I thought I was getting a good deal when I found $5 parking earlier this season (for the 18-inning marathon between the Bucs and Astros), and then I tried to buy food. Good grief, it's expensive. Hamburgers for $6.75, fries for $6.25 (great fries, but expensive), a medium Pepsi for $4.00 -- it's off the wall. From about the 12th inning on, we were all starving, but we weren't going to go pay for more food when the game could've ended at pretty much any minute. When I finally got near home at 1:30am, I bought myself a sandwich from a gas station, and I enjoyed it like it was a gourmet meal.

Ticket prices at PNC are reasonable, parking is reasonable in the city if you find a good spot, but concessions at the stadium are very expensive. The only two things I don't like about games at PNC are the concession prices and trying to find my way around downtown Pittsburgh. Everything else is spectacular.

Apparently the Reds are just going to keep trying to make trades and hope one of them works out

ST. LOUIS -- The Reds have acquired left-hander Scott Schoeneweis from Toronto for a player to be named or cash.

Also today, William Bergolla cleared waivers and was outrighted to Louisville, and Kent Mercker was transferred to the 60-day DL.

Here's the best part... Mercker blew out his elbow, but finished the last inning he was pitching in by getting a double play ball AFTER he blew his elbow out... with a 90 mph fastball. Tendons, shmendons.

Did we take a time warp back to 1982 or something? How old is Kent Mercker now? Like 60? Didn't Roberto Clemente get his 3000th hit off Kent Mercker? Or maybe it was his 2000th, I'm not sure.

Seriously, Kent Mercker. They still make that?

What cracks me up about guys like Mercker is that - regardless of their skill-level or general infamy - the Cardinal broadcasters will note that they are former Redbirds:

"Here's Kent Mercker in from the Reds' bullpen. I should say former Cardinal Kent Mercker. He of the 9-7 record and 7.42 ERA in 1999. He also got into a squabble with Tony Larussa when he stepped on a cockroach in the clubhouse. Tony jumped him for it, and Mercker had to be hauled away, screaming something about bugs not belonging to ARF."

Is this a new thing to you guys? For 2 cheese coneys, and a drink, I spend $10. That's double what I would pay at a Skyline chain. I dread the day I turn 21 and can buy beer. It'll take me like $70 to get drunk!

Well, I've got to admit that it's new to me. My trips to PNC (three in the past two years) are the only times I've ever been in a MLB ballpark. I've gotta remember that I ain't goin' to AAA games anymore.

Yeah, yeah, insert Pirates joke here.

Ok, we'll take Timo for today if you take Milton and start him against us.

Edit- on second thought, that might be an upgrade over Weaver.

Are you talking about?:

I've just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind

(chorus
Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain

(chorus again

Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side
