Sadly for that, Doug Brien sits on the Jets roster and Nate Keading kicks for SD.

This has always been my favorite weekend of football. Couldn't have asked for a much better day 1. Especially with a Jet win with maximum drama.

Yeah, for real, actually *try* for the endzone at least once? And in the history of me watching football, i cant recall one instance where kicking on 3rd down was actually beneficial. Can anyone else?

I do think that 'conventinal logic' is the goat here. When you're carving through a defense, why not just keep going?

And no, I don't ever recall an instance where a kick on 3rd down actually benefitted anyone. I was just thinking how awesome a *fake* field goal on 3rd down would be though. No way anyone would see it coming in such a situation (when the game is on the line).

Once, I forget who it was but ther was a bad snap and while the holder wasn't able to throw the ball away he did eat it for a loss but still well within range for the kick on 4th down.

Shottenheimer cost his team that game. What the hell is up with three straight ultra conservative calls that are going nowhere to lead to a 4th down field goal attempt that was no closer than 1st down. Hell, lets make the rookie kicker try one from 40 instead of maybe trying to knock that down to 30. He should be used to this kind of pressure, right?

With that idiotic play by Barton at the end of the game it would have been oh so sweet to see the Chargers win that game.

And when the holder or kicker gets sacked 10 yards back or throws an interception, how awesome would that be?

Oh, and I can think of an Eagles/Cowboys game where I would have loved to see just one more down for the Eagles on a field goal attempt.

I was thinking more of a run where the kicker takes it, kind of sweeping around.

HAHA... the Chargers fall to the Jets. I just remember no one giving the Jets any respect (neither did I, I confess), especially with the talk of Pennington's arm sucking, etc. What a good game.

It worked in the NAIA championship game this year. Bad snap and the holder spiked the ball. Next play winning field goal.

Georgia - Georgia Tech, back in... er... 2000? The "Jaspar Thanks" game. Winning FG attempt in OT on third down. Tech lines up for the FG, Georgia blocks it but the ball stays behind the line - George Godsey (holder) catches the block in the air, advances the ball a few yards. Fourth down kick is good, ballgame.

I have to say I really nailed how this game would play out. I said that both defenses would keep the running backs in check, leaving it up to QB vs. QB. They both played good enough that the game came down to special teams.

thoughts on betting?

I think i'm going to tease the favorite and the over in both games. I don't know about 10, but I like Indy -3 with an Over of 48.5. I don't see either of those not happening. Same thing with the late game.

Not only that, but the last play put them on the right hashmark, instead of dead in the middle of the field. Set it up in the middle for the easiest kick possible, and that one is good by a large margin.

We don't know, but I imagine they would have asked the kicker where he wanted the ball, since they basically could have put it anywhere they wanted to.

Where do you place your bets? I know that Bodog doesn't allow the over/under to be teased.
