Eh, no biggie. Hope that I get better, and earn a shot at full playing time.

Two of those freshmen linebackers are on academic probation now, including the fabled #89.

Two others left the team for lack of playing time a wide receiver (get over it!) and a running back (who was that?).

I sit down quietly with our offensive coordinator. Two security guards from the university are between us. I discuss our playcalling last season, and he assures me he knows what he's doing. I tell him that if he throws the ball as much as he did last season he will die. He reminds me that we have better athletes this season. I remind him he will die if I see that many interceptions again. I make a failed attempt to jump the table to attack him. Darn security guards.

The coordinator keeps his job this season.

In other news, we raise ticket prices nominally to keep up with Jeff City. Our season wasn't a smashing success, but was successful none the less. I will increase the recruiting radius to 250 miles.

One other thing:

Financially, in 2003 the team brought the university 6.86 million dollars in revenue. In 2004, we brought in 8.44 million dollars in revenue.

6-1, 190. I'll let you make your own judgement.

One other note, Ragone takes over as our top punt returner.

Don't worry. First time he comes around in seven-on-seven drills, either me or vtbub will make sure you are starting...of course, your back up might need to start limbering up too...

Try being in FFF's shoes. I'll be lucky to recruit a kid from my high school ever again.

Recruiting in state looks good. 14 available recruits in the top 1000, ironically no player from my hometown is on the radar. Unfortunately, 5 are defensive ends and 1 is a kicker. I'll take two of the ends if I can get them, and leave the kicker.

Most of Illinois is now available to me, with the exception of the Chicago area (which lies about 12 stinking miles out of the radius). Illinois is flat out loaded with talent, and I'll definitely be spending most of my time there.

We open the season against Arkansas State, again in St. Louis. We beat them last year, here's to hoping we beat them this year.

It's an incredibly warm day in St. Louis; 93 degrees and fair. ASU wins the toss and elects to receive. They take over on their 29.

Ragone makes an early statement; he makes the first tackle. He'd make another before ASU's drive was stalled. He would also field the punt at our 5 and lose two yards trying to make something happen. We take over offensively at our 3 yard line.

You can see the FOFC presence on offense. Indoor starts us off with a KRB on a 10 yard FB dive. CW carries for a yard, and Mizzourah comes off the field with a slight injury (no news yet). Three plays later, tucker342 makes a 13 yard reception. JeffNights contributes a KRB on the next play, a 2 yard run by CW.

Tucker342 would then take the ball on a reverse and follow a KRB by indoor for 37 yards. CW carries for 9 yards, but then fumbles the ball. Fortunately a TE recovers it for us. CW gains the first down on a 1 yard dive behind the KRB of JeffNights. 1st and goal at the 4.

Two plays later, the fans would notice:

ARST 46 Swift drove through STLS 75 JeffNights to dissolve the play. It was a 2 yard loss, putting us back on the 4.

We try to throw on 3rd and goal, but finkenst allows a sack. Not a great way to break into the rotation, bud. To make matters worse, the kicker misses the 29 yarder wide right.

The defense takes the field and forces a 3 and out. Thanks largely to a tackle by Blade6119 that forced a 4th and 1. Ragone returns the ball 2 yards to our 36.

The offense doesn't miss a beat. CW carries four straight times for a combined 31 yards and General Mike closes out the first quarter with a 3 yard run as well. Indoor provided a KRB.

Our ball, 2nd and 7 on the ASU 26.

ASU 0, STL 0.

We open the 2nd quarter with an 18 yard pass, a CW run for 5, and a TD run by the FB. Nfg22 provided KRBs on both runs. 7-0, good guys.

The defense takes the field after the return puts ASU on their 35. Lokugh provides a tackle, but it wasn't enough. ASU burns us for a 39 yard TD pass. 7-7.

CW carried once for 15, tucker342 once for 4, and General Mike once for 2 yards, but then we eventually have to punt. Indoor would make the tackle on the punt return to the ASU 28. The ball would pop out, but was recovered by ASU.

ASU goes three and out. Ragone calls a fair catch on our 48 yard line. CW carries 3 times for for 8 yards, and we return the favor. The punt goes for a touchback.

Lokugh provides another tackle, and blade6119 tipped a pass. Eventually, ASU has to punt. Ragone returns it for 2 yards to our 40. 2:10 left in the half.

CW carries the ball for 5, and GM carries for 3. An incomplete pass puts us at 4th and 2 on our 48. We don't risk it and punt away. It's downed at their 17, with 33 seconds left.

SirFozzie makes the final tackle of the half on a running play.

Halftime

ASU 7, STL 7.

We take the kickoff to the 21, where an incredible 50 yard pass and roughing the passer penalty send us downfield in a hurry. GM provides us with two carries for 6 yards and a TD. Indoor provided the KRB that put him in the endzone. 14-7.

Blade6119 and SirFozzie provide tackles on the next drive. It forces a punt that Ragone returns the wrong way. He loses 2 yards on the return.

Nfg22 provides a KRB, CW carries 3 times for 18 yards. The fans saw this on one of the carries:

STLS 59 indoorsoccersim knocked ARST 25 Harley flat to create the hole.

Unfortunately, a holding penalty would halt our drive. We go for it on 4th down and fail. ASU takes over on their 20.

Lokugh provides an assist on a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Two plays later, we sack the QB and force a fumble. We recover on the ASU 18.

Nfg22 gives us a KRB for a CW 10 yard run. Finkenst provides a KRB for a GM 6 yard run. CW takes it in behind nfg22's KRB for a 2 yard score. 21-7.

Vtbub gets on the tackle board with a solo (for no gain). ASU punts two plays later. Ragone returns the ball 7 yards in the right direction this time to the ASU 44.

CW carries twice for 10 yards total, and GM carries once for no gain as the 3rd quarter ends.

1st and 10, STL, on the ASU 34.

ASU 7, STL 21.

Nfg22 provides a KRB, while CW carries 4 times for 11 yards. We're tied up at the 8 yard line, and our kicker finally hits one, this time a 25 yarder.

ASU completes a deep ball on the next drive. SirFozzie provides an assist. We make an interception in the endzone on the next play.

Tucker342 makes a 6 yard catch, while indoor provides a KRB to stretch the drive. GM carries for 7, thanks to the KRB from JeffNights. He would lose 3 on the next carry, though. We end up punting the ball to the ASU 43.

Ragone would tip a ball away, forcing a punt. He would return the punt a yard, but a holding call sends us to our 9. 6:35 left in the game.

CW would register a 16 yard run, thanks to a JeffNights KRB, and a 3 yard reception. GM chips in 8 yards with an indoor KRB. Indoor would do the same for CW, with a carry of 4.

CW comes off the field with an injury on the next play, though. Let's hope it's not serious. It doesn't appear so, he goes back in and carries for 5 yards. He apparently made a great move on a DE.

GM gives us 3 carries for 20 yards. Tucker342 takes a reverse for 2 yards. Two kneel downs later, we have our first victory of the year!!

Final

ASU 7, STL 24.

I have you listed officially with 2 tackles, an assist, and one reception allowed in 18 plays. Unofficially, it looks like you'll receive a Cardinal for your helmet. I can neither confirm or deny that.

#35 RB General Mike: 13 attempts, 52 yards, 1 TD. 3 Cardinals on your helmet.

#95 TE Mizzourah: 2 plays. Injured, abdominal strain. Doubtful.

#1 WR tucker342: 2 receptions, 19 yards. 3 attempts, 43 yards. 2 Cardinals on your helmet.

#59 C indoorsoccersim: 10 KRB in 17 opps. 1 tackle, 1 forced fumble. 11 Cardinals on your helmet.

#69 G nfg22: 6 KRB in 13 opps. 6 Cardinals on your helmet.

#75 G JeffNights: 4 KRB in 11 opps. 4 Cardinals on your helmet.

#48 OLB Lokugh: 1 tackle, 2 assists. 1 reception allowed. I have you down for only 16 plays for some reason. You are a pretty raw freshman, but I would have thought we would play your more. 1 Cardinal on your helmet.

#55 OLB vtbub: 1 tackle in 25 plays. Odd how you guys didn't get a lot of PT. 1 Cardinal on your helmet.

#36 CB Ragone: 2 receptions allowed, 1 tipped pass, 2 tackles. 5 punt returns, 7 yards. 2 Cardinals on your helmet.

#25 CB SirFozzie: 1 reception allowed, 2 tackles, 1 assist. 1 Cardinal on your helmet.

Damn, I want to be on the all-academic team ! Man, have you seen those grades ???

The simple answer? Distance. The senior can simply kick the ball further. You have a smidge more accuracy, so you may have made the short one he missed. Alas, my great coaching skills doesn't allow for a kicker to hit short FGs and a different one to attempt long ones.

Er, I know our Offense, but what type of defense we runnin', coach? Some sort of whacked out 5-2 scheme? Lokugh needs some PT for those scouts...

Like I said, you're very raw. You have the talent to be in the NFL, though. You were probably rotated in and out quite a bit. That's my best guess. ASU threw the ball a lot, so we had the nickelback in quite a bit as well.

I'd expect bigger and better things (and more PT) out of you in the future.
