Just powered a Wizard through Act I. Went shopping on the AH afterward to prepare for Act II. 90% magic find. Fun in the desert upcoming.

But now a nap, West Ham battles for promotion in under four hours and I've been up all night.

I know, I know. I want to push through with the Wizard. Not sure how much I'll get to play my DH (27, through Act II, with my buddy).

Hmm, I guess I must be closing in on the end of Act 1. At level 14, just took out the Jailer. Barbarian is amazing at whaling on crowds.

At some point I'm going to have to start mastering some of the skills instead of just brute forcing stuff, but I haven't really hit that point yet.

I'm enjoying my Monk so far, but I have to say that the primary attack skills seem sort of underwhelming at first. After I got Thunderclap for Fists of Thunder, the others seem...well, kind of lame.

How is loot dispersed to a group? Or is it a free-for-all?

Separate loot is generated for each player and everyone only sees their own loot on the ground. Once I've picked something up if I see something good for another class in my group I can drop it on the ground and everyone will see it at that point.

Addicted to that damn auction house.

Went in with 50K and a hour or so later I have 78K and 4 legendary armor pieces (Theoric's Crown, Goldwrap Belt, Born's Carapace and something else that alludes me right now...)

The great thing about buying legendary pieces on the AH is once you outgrow them you can re-sell them.

I beat normal and started up Nightmare tonight with a buddy, I'm playing a wizard, he's a barb. Red laser beam (right click/Disintegrate) ripping apart a dozen mobs all at once is immensely satisfying.

Finished up Nightmare, pretty much solo'd it all. I really need to find a good group of 3 more for Hell mode. Much more fun in groups. Still having a blast though.

When can one reasonably expect to get a Legendary drop? Just completed Normal and thought I'd get one when I killed Diablo, but just a whole lotta other stuff.

I've had 3 legendaries drop in game for me in Normal. Not a single one ever since.

Random loot is random.

edit: granted, my Magic Find then was hovering somewhere at 76%

I play with a small group of friends. There's about 5 us and we've seen a total of 2 legendaries and zero set items after many, many playthroughs. 2 of them are completely through normal and nightmare.

It's funny because all the people I know find them so rarely but there are tons on the auction house - I guess it's just a small sample size.

You get the first Act for free. The game needs to be out for 30 days before you can do it.

Ah, so how long does it actually take to play through the campaign one time? I dont like to replay things too many times, so just wondering if I would likely get my $60 worth.

One time = play through Normal?
Or play through Normal, Nightmare, Hell? I've probably played 20-25 hours on Normal, across 3 evenings (the game just devours my personal life) so far and I'm hoping to finish it off tonight.

Part of the fun of these games is taking the other character builds for a spin. If you are just looking for a one-player solo experience with one character doing Normal it would be fun but expensive, in my opinion. If you take it through Hell one-player you will easily put in 100+ hours. And if you do decide to try a bunch of different alts then you could have a ton more time than 100 hours.

i am up to lvl 48 with my Demon Hunter and am at about 38 hours played.. probably another 2-3 hours to finish nightmare mode, then on to hell...

the loot seems to be way more level restrictive than D2, and you outgrow your gear pretty quick.. but if you get the right combination of skills, you can kick major butt even with average equipment.
