Yeah the Pats will coast in those last three division games and will easily win the playoffs with teams having to go to foxboro.

December record by QB (all-time):

1. Brady 46-7 .870
12. Montana 35-12 .745
18. Manning 47-21 .690

Just saying.

Only one of those three played in the AFC East over the last 15 years. Just saying😉

It actually would be interesting to back out the winning % of the teams each of them faced. Looking at some of Montana's years, there are a surprising number of AFC teams popping up in that final month. I would be inclined to think Brady had an easier time of things playing in a weak AFC East, but I don't know if the numbers bear that out or not.

Pats have 10+ wins for 12 seasons in a row. To pull that off during the salary cap era is amazing.

To have one of those seasons led by Matt Cassel is even more amazing

Yeah - it's also going to depend on how the schedule shakes out, where the divisional games are on it.

Someone here will do the work I imagine.

The weakness of the AFC East is a fallacy. I wish I could find where at FootballOutsiders someone ran the numbers, but even without the Patriots the average AFC East DVOA during this run is right about even with the other divisions. It just seems weak because no other team has sustained success multiple years in a row or had any playoff success (other than the Jets under Sanchez), but there have also been a relative dearth of really bad teams. The Buffalo Bills are the epitome of that, with 6 or 7 wins in 7 of the last 8 seasons, and the Dolphins are working on their own streak of potentially 7 straight years between 6 and 8 wins. The jets look terrible this year, but they made the playoffs 6 times in the first 10 years of the Patriots run. Even just looking at this year no one thinks of Miami or Buffalo as particularly good but both are solidly in the top 10.

Just look at the other divisions. The AFC and NFC South are clearly no better, the NFC West is the flavor of the month but was the worst division in football just a couple years ago, the AFC West is dragged down by the Raiders (and a Chiefs team that has more 4 win or less seasons than playoff appearances in the last decade), which leaves 3 divisions. The NFC East is a pretty good comparison, withe the Eagles as the top dog, Cowboys and Giants teams who are consistently frisky but never elite (although they have some playoff success), and a Redskins team that is never terrible but hasn't been good either. The NFC North follows a similar template, except teams #2/3 are a little better, and the 4th team (Detroit) worse than any AFCE counterpart over that time. The AFC North, even with the Browns, has been better and pretty clearly the best division in football the last 15 years imo. If you want to claim a team's just been picking on a bad division, go look at the Colts (who will have 10+ wins in 13 of 14 seasons with 1 more W) who have never had more than one of the Jaguars, Titans and Texans be even decent at the same time.

Not having read through Bishop's post, I would compare Montana's NFC West with Atlanta and NO, as well as Manning's AFC South and West. Don't know how it shakes out but both of the other QBs had to play multiple games each year against bad teams. In December? I dont know.

Worth noting that from 1998-2001 Manning actually played in the AFC East, and it wasn't the same division --1998 had a 12-4 NYJ, 10-6 BUF/MIA; 1999 an 11-5 BUF, 2000 an 11-5 MIA, 2001 a 10-6 NYJ, 11-5 MIA, 11-5 (Brady-led) NE. But again, not sure he played many of them in DEC (and does this include Jan? There were some regular season games in Jan in there).

New England was 90 out of the division in that span. That means the rest of the division went 169-191 out of division, essentially the equivalent of the NFC North. I can't tell you how the other three teams' DVOA work out.

Miami has 85 wins in that span if my math is right.

Well, if New England's putting up a .750 winning percentage vs the rest of the league then I'd say what division they're in doesn't really matter.

In unrelated news, Brady Quinn was the color guy for the Bucs/Lions game yesterday. He wasn't half bad. In fact, he was one of the better color analysts I've heard this year.

It's going to be tough for any ballclub to come into Lambeau and beat Rodgers. He beat Brady last week and became the clear cut MVP. HFA will still come down to Week 17, Lions at GB. Winner gets HFA, loser plays at the 6-10 Saints in the WC round. The only team I think that could possibly beat GB at Lambeau is Seattle.

Lions are the current 6th seed. Even if Seattle wins their division, Arizona has the edge over Detroit. Arizona would have to lose all of their games for Detroit to get the 5th seed.

Yeah, there is NO WAY, none, zero, zilch, that the Lions win in Lambeau. It will not happen. It hasn't happened in 23 years and it certainly isn't happening this year.

It is known.

That's rough. I wonder if that is a product of having Alex Smith as your QB or having poor receivers?

Can't believe it hasn't been posted 32 times here already

It's Johnny Football time in Cleveland...yeah?

Jamaal Charles was injured in the game with the Cards-injuries to knee and ankle-he only had about 20 yards rushing after being injured-so was affected by them.

Speaking of the Cards, RB Ellington now out for the rest of the season-injured reserve. That's okay RB Kerwynn Williams ran for 100 yards-just picked up this past week off the street.

Newton's truck looks bad. Back injuries are also really bad. I bet Newton will miss 1-2 games at the minimum. If they lose this weekend they should shut him down instead of giving him pain killing injections.
