Things are either working or they're not here. The Water Plant, however, has two different parts: the Water Filter and the Water Tank. One, but not the other, of those could be damaged. I didn't break them out for today as they are both working. Quote:
You may once per day decide who to give phasers to. You may give phasers to ANY security staff. Based on the comments I will now allow the Sergeant at Arms to preform the Protect action at night for 1 AP. I have not processsed your action for today yet so please resubmit based on this answer. Quote:
Well actually you have seven phasers. These things don't come cheap you know and really what do you need phasers on this mission for, all you're doing is mining some Crystillium ? Also see above about ALL security personnel now being able to recieve phasers and preform the Protect action. |

OK, so one of the doctors/nurse characters keep a rolling log of who check/cleared who on what day? I think that would be a helpful reference for us in addition to voting records.

Despite the work that needs to be done many of the crew cannot but help find a reason, any reason, to pop into the water plant following the Away Team mission. Hoopsguy keeps trying to shoe them away but finally the computer spits out an answer to how much water was collected. The computer spits out a number that is towards the high end of everyone's estimate of how much water you will get in a day: 9.7 more units of water.

It seems like the Hive Mind is the critical spawn to ID in terms of tracking voting patterns. The three spawn on the council all know who each other are, but all other spawn only know who the Hive Mind is, so they will have to key off of his voting patterns to avoid going after other random spawn/spawnlings.
I don't think we have helped our cause at all today by foregoing voting. |

I totally agree. We've given the Spawn a free day without any cause for concern. I guess we're all still feeling the game out, but we better start doing something soon, or things are gonna avalanche on us.

The day comes to an end. After a long day of talking Ardent and King emerge from the Interrogation room. There will be no more private talks between them for the time being.
At the moment the trust has seemed to remain strong among the crew, although some mutter that all this day has done is give the creatures some breathing room. No one is executed today. People go to sleep, not knowing what tomorrow will hold for them. Night actions are due to me by 9 AM EDT, although please get them in ASAP so that I can post them tonight if possible. People who may preform night actions are: First Officer Engineers Security Personnel Spawn Vigilante Slayer Duplicant Remember that any survivor who preforms a public role during the night they will become exhausted (giving them a negative modifier on most dice rolls). So Barkeep, if we don't send in a night action you assume we sleep (and thus negate the exhaustion penalty)?

Man, I wish RealDeal had ordered Bek to work on the engine room. Would have gotten us down to 7 cycles.
If we have the 4 engineers work on it tonight. Then we would be down to 4 tomorrow and would be able to launch on Day 3 barriing a setback.

The fact that Bek didn't work the engine room himself (as was suggested) makes me suspicious of him. Or maybe he was just not active at all today (which in my mind is also grounds for a potential voting tomorrow). We should keep him in mind tomorrow. I guess the same goes for RealDeal. |

How do I order bek to repair the engine room? In the thread or via PM? Sorry guys. I had a surprisingly busy day at work today and still don't really have a handle on what's going on. The rules are overwhelming.

From the rules talking about water collected:
Quote:
This afternoon's results: Quote:
The team included (from post #148): KWhit dubb93 pennywisesb Passacaglia Marc Vaughan I don't suspect this means that they are all clean, but I think this is decent evidence for each of them. I doubt we would be pulling optimum water if there were multiple spawn in the group, unless the random number generator went bonkers. |

The night passes, easily for most, uneasily for others. Schmidity was on guard duty all night protecting KWhit while Fouts was seen lurking in the crew area awake all night.
The engine room was also busy at work as Mr. Bug, Bek and Jeff spent the night working away. Waking up in the morning, everyone hurries to breakfast and does a mental count as each person walks in. Sure enough the whole crew is there. No one reports any damage done to their areas either. A few of the naive hope that perhaps these spawn are not as bad as they were made out to be, but wiser heads know otherwise. Not sure yet. I think maybe we should go ahead and get as much as we can early on and then sit tight. It might make sense to do another mission today. Anyone want to weigh in with their thoughts on the matter?

My only worry is a leak. If I recall, some or all of the water can be lost. If we stockpile water, it might all get lost.

I have to admit, I'm not paying too much attention this game since all I'm doing is scanning (or doing an exam)...not to mention the other threads are far more interesting and combustible at this point. Is it just me, or is our ultimate goal to destroy all of the spawn, not just survive? Can we do both at once?

Good question. I think we want to get ready for liftoff as much as we can, since once we liftoff, no survivors can be infected. And at this point, we really don't want to risk losing a crew member, since the more we have, the faster we can get ready for liftoff. We could try destroying all of the spawn, but how? Where would we start?

I suggest we start voting today. It's my guess either the Doctor or the Nurse got turned last night. Just a thought, not saying whether or not we should go after them.

The place holder post up at #232 has been expanded. If you preformed a night action and have not recieved a PM informing you of the results or seen it there please let me know as I fight a constant struggle to maintain message space while still keeping records of what went on

If the Spawn were to successfully attack the Water Plant they would first damage the water filters, preventing you from getting more water. If they successfully attacked again, while the water filters remained damaged, they could then cause a leak. |

While most of the crew is still moving around their rations on their plates a couple of engineers have already finished. Jeff and Mr. Wednesday are up and at the engine room once more.

I'll probably go with the First Officer today, or if Vince goes for him, I'll go with the Second Officer or Security Chief or Engineer. Too many possibilities for us at this point, but I agree we start voting today. The longer we wait, the more chances they'll have to kill us or convert us. |

Five engineers - is there any reason we should not have all work on repairing the engine today? I don't see any if there is not any other equipment damaged. They don't have the luxury of defending. Will taking this action leave them exhausted or will a night action of sleep address this concern?
Away team - we had 19.7 units of water, but should have consumed 5.25 last night (.25 * 21). So we have 14.5 (rounding) units of water, which is not quite enough to last for three days. I think we need to keep accumulating water. I just would not send engineers to get the water today. If none of the engineers are spawn then we should see five days worth of work done repairing and get us close to lift-off. If any of the engineers are spawn and decide to fake duties then we collect that information. I would be leery of jaking it if I were a spawn because I would not necessarily want to attract attention even if it is to a group of five. We didn't hear any screams in the night - what are the odds that conversions are silent? Also, on a spawn attack, I don't see conversion listed as an option - only failed attack, wounded, and killed. On a spawnling attack, there is a chance to become infected. The spawnlings evolve into spawn if not detected but we don't know for sure how many (if any) spawnlings start in the game. However, there is a 10% chance of becoming spawnling when participating in an Away Team Mission. Barkeep, have a couple of questions: 1. After lift-off, no new survivors can become infected. Does the mean that spawnling attacks can no longer infect? 2. What is the rate of leaking? Is this a fixed rate or does it depend on the amount of damage sustained by the water tank? 3. I assume we still need water after lift-off - but how do we get it at that time? Are we still doing Away Team Missions? 4. Does the game start with a Spawn Queen and a Hive Mind? These roles are not listed under the "Unevolved Spawn" group which leads me to believe they are initial roles. 5. Do the spawns have "exhausted" as well? It seems like they do based on the "Mind Leech" description. If so, do spawn/spawnling attacks exhaust the spawns? This would make them less likely to attack on back-to-back nights. If there were no kills (or wounds) last night and there were no assets damaged then it sounds like the spawn were pretty unlucky with their efforts. Or they are just waiting us out, letting us perform duties that exhaust us and then looking to attack tonight. I think this is a pretty feasible action for them based on the lack of voting. Assuming the answer to #4 above is "yes" then I would guess that the game started with at least the two defined spawns, and one undefined spawn (to make up the council). I'm not convinced that a spawnling starts the game, although I suppose that would make sense. Since the spawn attack success rates are variable depending on the number of spawn involved, I'm guessing that they act independently and can kill/wound/convert more than one person per evening. Which makes it less likely that they are starting with big numbers, even with the non-standard victory conditions. |
