3 Wins in a row and a lot of scoring in recent weeks. Paris is back to respectability and right in thick of things for the Playoff race.

Go Musketeers !

Observe and learn.

Seriously, a little bit of lucky scheduling did a ton of work in the first 3 weeks, thus far my team deserved around a 5-3 or 4-4 record.
On the other hand, I beat Paris, Goteborg and Alf's team in their worst weeks, beat Glasgow by less then a point and beat Ayr, Rurhpott and R&D.

Look for the Hard Cats to make it into the playoffs (at least, that's what I target )

Euro FFL, week 9, early recap
Ayr Raiders (3-5) vs Rurhpott Miners (0-8)
Mathematially the Raiders are still alive, but realistically they're out.
The Miners still have the honor to play for, if that is intersting enough for them.
The Raiders and Miners will both miss key players this weekend.
Recap: The Miners put up a big lead at 55.26-35.20 going into MNF with the Miners' Antowain Smith and Jason Elam still to play vs. the Broncos defense.
In the end, this game likely dumped the Raiders to where the Miners already are, out of contention for the playoffs.
Note that the Raiders may be "dead", as Drew Bledsoe was starting on his open weekend.

Elven Knights (5-3) vs R&D Devils (0-8)
On one end are the favourites called Elven knights and on the other end we have the underperforming last ranked Devils.
The Knight have dropped to 1 win behind the playoff spots and without McNair and Moulds this game could go wrong.
Still, the Devils players are one-by-one struggling: McNabb, Curtis Martin, Peerless Price, you name 'em.
Recap: Donovan McNabb and his Devils showed their skill, but elas came a few points short for the upset victory, as the Knights went to a narrow 82.60-80.58 victory.
The Knights now come back in the playoff spots due to scores elsewhere...

Goteborg Goblins (4-4) vs GeG Trolls (3-5)
The hottest team in the league, the Goblins, are taking on the almost-out-of-the-race Trolls.
Goteborg might be in trouble without the KC tandem Trent Green-Tony Gonzalez and their kicker.
The Trolls have a good team that could pull it off this week to keep the hopes alive.
Recap: The Trolls go into MNF with an almost secure victory, as Goteborg's Kevin Faulk and the New England defense have to outplay Daniel Graham to turn around the 86.88-42.78 lead.
If the Trolls win, both teams will drop to 4-5 and at least 2 wins behind the playoff teams. A 4-game winning streak is compulsory for both.

Glasgow Kilties (6-2) vs Alf Hard Cats (4-4)
Both teams have won their last games, turning around losing streaks.
The Kilties could be in trouble being Prienst Holmes-less.
The hard Cats remain as the 3rd ranked team in points and are better then their 4-4 record.
Recap: With Drew Brees putting up a negative score and Shannon Sharpe still to play, the Kilties look lost against the Hard Cats, as Brad Johnson and especially Amani Toomer put up big numbers to a 88.46-60.66 almost sure victory.
The Kilties loss has a major inpact on the playoff race, while the Hard Cats return into contention, just 1 victory behind.

Garden Dwarves (6-2) vs Paris Musketeers (4-4)
The top two teams in points per game are heading into maybe the first 250-point game of the year.
The Dwarves are complete and a lot of players have favourable matchups.
The Musketeers only miss one regular starter, but upsetting the Dwarves could be a longshot.
Recap: With Torry Holt and Santana Moss combining for 341yd and 4 TD, the Musketeers pull down a top team once again, as all lies on Clinton Portis to overcome trailing 111.54-67.42 for the Dwarves.
The Musketeers come back to a 1-point gap to make the playoff race exciting, while the Dwarves can't afford to lose more games to defend their place.

Maassluis Anglers (7-1) vs An Oriant Stars (6-2)
The game of the week, if not the year, takes places as the formerly league leading Stars take on the Anglers.
As the eight ranked team in points, the Anglers are playing above their record and with all the RBs injured, the 4-game winning streak is in jeopardy.
The Stars are ready to end the losing streak, having nobody on an open wekend.
Recap: With a low scoring game, the Anglers pull this one down in the end at 68.62-67.54.
With the events in other games, the Anglers are now 2 wins loose from the rest of the pack, meaning 3 wins in 4 games clinches a playoff spot. The Stars have lost 3-in-a-row now, and with their low number of points can't afford the streak to keep going.

Edited the week number

Here is some further analysis about how much my team deserves to be 7-1 after 8 weeks.

If the top 6 scores per week were worth a victory, the standings would have been:
8-0 Garden Dwarves
6-2 Elven Knights
5-3 Paris Musketeers
5-3 Alf Hard Cats
5-3 Glasgow Kilties
5-3 GeG Trolls
5-3 Maassluis Anglers
3-5 An Oriant Stars
3-5 Goteborg Goblins
2-6 Ayr Raiders
1-7 R&D Devils
0-8 Rurhpott Miners

And here are standings based on how many teams each team should have beaten per week (with rounded records, explaining the total records of 47-49 in stead of 48-48):
7-1 Garden Dwarves
5-3 Glasgow Kilties
5-3 Alf Hard Cats
5-3 Elven Knights
5-3 Paris Musketeers
4-4 An Oriant Stars
4-4 Maassluis Anglers
4-4 Geg Trolls
3-5 Goteborg Goblins
3-5 Ayr Raiders
1-7 Rurhpott Miners
1-7 R&D Devils

And I'm glad it doesn't work that way, my team is in a "need-just-two-more-wins" situation.

I mean, though it's probably fairer, I like the system due to it's unpredictable way of representing what goes on in real sports. I mean, the Vikings or Dolphins or Jets should not complain about the Cardinals beating the Bengals this week, do they?

Besides, with fantasy football you never know. Maybe the Dwarves will reach the playoffs 4th seed and trash the Anglers in the semis...

BTW, no need to update the recaps, MNF brought no changes in outcomes of games concidering winners and losers.

Voila!

Euro FFL, week 10, preview

Glasgow Kilties (6-3, #5) vs R&D Devils (0-9, #12)
With the lower ranked teams moving up, the Kilties need to win to stay in their spot, while the Devils are still winless.
The Kilties are missing some starters with bye weeks and should expect missing a point or 15, while the Devils miss some players too, so maybe it's time for others besides McNabb to get on fire (figure of speech, of course).
Expect the Kilties to win.

Alf Hard Cats (5-4, #3) vs Rurhpott Miners (1-8, #11)
The Hard Cats are still 1 win behind their true position, while the Miners belong were they are.
The Miners have little to hope for upsetting the Hard Cats as they are almost to full strenght.
Expect the Hard Cats to win a close game.

Paris Musketeers (5-4, #2) vs Ayr Raiders (3-6, #10)
The Musketeers are moving up to where they should be, while the Raiders look done for the year.
The lack of RB power that hunted Paris up to this point should be no true problem as the Raiders players have tough matchups.
Expect the Musketeers to win big.

Garden Dwarves (6-3, #1) vs Goteborg Goblins (4-5, #9)
The strongest team in the league, the Dwarves could lose once again this week.
With Clinton Portis out, the Goblins could do it, if only Terrell Owens hadn't been on a bye week too.
Expect the Dwarves to win a close game.

Maassluis Anglers (8-1, #8) vs GeG Trolls (4-5, #4)
With the Trolls missing some usual starters, this game could be the do-or-die.
On the other hand, the Anglers are still RB-less, though they did win 5 straight.
Expect the Trolls to win by a narrow margin.

Elven Knights (6-3, #6) vs An Oriant Stars (6-3, #7)
This weeks game of the week sees two 6-3 teams play eachother.
The winner will build a 1-win gap with place 5, while the loser could drop back to 7th place.
The Knights are at full strenght, while the Stars miss 3 stars and have lost 3-in-a-row.
Expect the Knights to win.

but I still have 3 big matchups (Anglers, Knights, Kilties) so it's not done yet.

have you noticed the #1 in Yahoo's "worldwide" FFL standings? That teams is ranked 2nd in the league the team plays in and has only a 6-3 record.

Thanks guys for helping keeping up the interest.

The Melmac Hard Cats are still a longshot to make the playoffs, but should catch up Oriant Stars or Elven Knights this week !

Yep, I feel confident in my team right now after an ugly start.
It now makes it 5 wins in a row and some fine scores.

It helps to have Peyton Manning, Ladainian Tomlinson, Torry Holt and Santana Moss these days..along with the outstanding Tennessee Defense.

And Tomlinson, the #1 overeall pick in the Draft is finally coming into his own.
Not too sound cocky but I may have the better team in the league right now...of course, things can change quickly (injuries etc..).

FOFC Euro FFL 2003, week 11 preview

As the season is slowly nearing it's 12 to 4 teams cut, things are turning down to an exciting finish.
The Maassluis Anglers seemed to have clinched 1 of 4 spots, but a loss in week 10 seriously suspended that event.
The Dwarves are comfortable at 7-3, meaning 1 loss is no problem, though the also 7-3 Knights are not.
Hots teams are the 6-4 Musketeers and Hard Cats, while the good starting Stars and Kilties have dropped fast the last weeks.
Behind that, the Trolls could still upset all with a 6-game winning streak that started week 9.
The Goblins should fear not making it, as 4-6 now means they need to win them all and see 5 top teams lose every week.
For the Raiders, Devils and Miners the season will end in week 14, though they knew that already.

Maassluis Anglers (8-2, 77ppg) vs Garden Dwarves (7-3, 98ppg)
For some reason, every week one game will jump out as a game of the week, and this game between the top 2 teams continues the trend. The Anglers are sturggling (Kevin Johnson, Jeremey Shockey), though 2 wins in the rest of the season will likely ensure a playoff spot. Still, this and next week are the Anglers' games to prove their worthiness with games against the Dwarves and Musketeers. The Dwarves are the best team in the league, plain and simple, their not-so-easy schedule will probably not spoil that.
Expect the Dwarves to win and grab the top rank.

Elven Knights (7-3, 83ppg) vs GeG Trolls (5-5, 84ppg)
The Knights are getting things done, and have won 2 straight. But so did the Trolls, stopping the 4-game and 5-game winning streaks of the Goblins and Anglers respectively. The Knights still have the toughest schedule of the league coming up with the Dwarves, Musketeers and Goblins.
Expect the Knights to win a close game.

Glasgow Kilties (6-4, 82ppg) vs An Oriant Stars (6-4, 79ppg)
Well, just 4 weeks ago these 2 looked like playoff bound teams. After that, the Kilties have gone 1-3 and the Stars 0-4. The Stars could cope with a loss, having probably the easiest possible schedule. The Kilties still have to face the Dwarves and Musketeers, so a loss could be lethal.
Expect the Stars to win a close game.

Paris Musketeers (6-4, 94ppg) vs Goteborg Goblins (4-6, 70ppg)
With respect to the Dwarves as the best team over 10 games, Paris is the hottest team in the league. The Musketeers scored 100+ points in the last 4 games and have turned around the 0-3 start to a playoff rank. After this week, Paris will only face winning teams, so keeping up the points might be a need. Goteborg looked hot 2 weeks ago, but have dropped 2 games and seem out of the playoffs afterall. The Goblins have the players to upset Paris, but more importantly: will the Musketeers fall below 100?
Expect the Musketeers to win.

Alf Hard Cats (6-4, 88ppg) vs Ayr Raiders (3-7, 61ppg)
Not as hot as Paris, the Hard Cats do have a consistent team. The Hard Cats have dropped below 80 points in only 2 games and yet have not been in a playoff seat since week 3. The Raiders have turned into the leagues doormat, as the went below 70 points in 8 straight games.
Expect the Hard Cats to win big.

R&D Devils (1-9, 61ppg) vs Rurhpott Miners (1-9, 60ppg)
Question: Does anyone care about this game, besides the team owners? Anyway, these teams sadly haven't been able to follow the other teams. The Devils have played their spoilers role well last week, upsetting the Kilties. Both teams can have a spoilers role for the Hard Cats, Trolls, Dwarves and especially the An Oriant Stars. This week, this game could decide who will finish the 2003 season at last place.
Expect the Miners to win a close game.

Euro FFL, week 10, review of picked winners
Glasgow Kilties (6-3, #5) vs R&D Devils (0-9, #12) - Expect the Kilties to win. The Devils won by 16.52
Alf Hard Cats (5-4, #3) vs Rurhpott Miners (1-8, #11) - Expect the Hard Cats to win a close game. The Hard Cats won by 41.44
Paris Musketeers (5-4, #2) vs Ayr Raiders (3-6, #10) - Expect the Musketeers to win big. The Musketeers won by 74.52
Garden Dwarves (6-3, #1) vs Goteborg Goblins (4-5, #9) - Expect the Dwarves to win a close game. The Dwarves won by 18.74
Maassluis Anglers (8-1, #8) vs GeG Trolls (4-5, #4) - Expect the Trolls to win by a narrow margin. The Trolls won by 12.9
Elven Knights (6-3, #6) vs An Oriant Stars (6-3, #7) -
Expect the Knights to win. The Knights won by 23

So basically I predicted 5 of 6 games correct.
That's just as good as my predictions for the NFL games in each of the past 2 weekends, though that was 5 out of 14...

I guess not:
Maassluis Anglers 80.30
Garden Dwarves 56.12

Thank you, Brian Westbrook, for your 3 touchdowns against the Giants.

BTW, I did very well in the Yahoo! NFL predictions this week, I was right on the Bengals beating the Chiefs.

It makes my oh-so-bad weekend a bit better after the loss of Oranje to Scotland (1-0) and my volleyball team's 0-4 loss to our rivals from neighbour city (and my birthplace) Vlaardingen...

Expect the Hard Cats to win big.

Ah the irony. Terrell Owens will be DK's enemy this time! Well, the 49ers could win without TO getting any catches...

you bet...
It's awful. Of course I'll be cheering for Owens tonight )
meaning I'm pretty certain to lose a game for the first time in 6 weeks. And that is NOT good Playoffs wise.

With all due respect to the Goblins, losing to a 4-6 team that far in the season, when Playoff spots are up for grabs and the team steamrolling...this is a huge disapointement.

Only 1 win separates the #2 ranked team and the #8...Anything can happen "in this league"

Euro FFL, week 11, updated recap

Maassluis Anglers (8-2, 77ppg) vs Garden Dwarves (7-3, 98ppg)

Elven Knights (7-3, 83ppg) vs GeG Trolls (5-5, 84ppg)

Update: With Tai Streets being worth 0 points, the Knights win afterall and make the Trolls drop to an almost-out-of-playoffs record.

Glasgow Kilties (6-4, 82ppg) vs An Oriant Stars (6-4, 79ppg)
Expect the Stars to win a close game.
Recap: The Stars took the lead, but with Tim Rattay and Hines Ward left, the Kilties could turn around from losing 63.40-77.38.
Update: With Tim Rattay on fire (and Ward adding about 5 points as well) the Kilties managed to turn around the score and get a 89.56-77.38 victory.

Paris Musketeers (6-4, 94ppg) vs Goteborg Goblins (4-6, 70ppg)
Expect the Musketeers to win.
Recap: As the teams enter MNF, the Goblins lead 80.42-77.44 with Terrell Owens still to play. The Musketeers need Todd Peterson to score a lot to keep the streak alive.

Alf Hard Cats (6-4, 88ppg) vs Ayr Raiders (3-7, 61ppg)
Expect the Hard Cats to win big.
Recap: As the Hard Cats players failed to do well, except the RB duo Shaun Alexander and Stephen Davis, the Raiders need Garrison Hearst to gain 54 yards for a victory, as the Cats lead 62.96-57.66.
Update: With Hearst beating the points needed by 2.5, the Raiders claim an upsetting victory: 65.56-62.96.

R&D Devils (1-9, 61ppg) vs Rurhpott Miners (1-9, 60ppg)
Expect the Miners to win a close game.
Recap: While the top teams seem to choke, the Miners had a good weekend, beating the Devils 87.38-75.06.

Updated standings after 11 weeks:
9-2 Maassluis Anglers
8-3 Elven Knights
7-4 Garden Dwarves
7-4 Glasgow Kilties
6-5 Paris Musketeers
6-5 Al Hard Cats
6-5 An Oriant Stars
5-6 GeG Trolls
5-6 Goteborg Goblins
4-7 Ayr Raiders
2-9 Rurhpott Miners
1-10 R&D Devils

Preview of week 12:
Elven Knights (8-3) vs Garden Dwarves (7-4)
With every other week 10 winner losing in week 11, the Knights are the hottest team in the league with a 3-game winning streak.
The Dwarves are still the pointswise best team in the league and should get level with the Knights at 8 wins.

Maassluis Anglers (9-2) vs Paris Musketeers (6-5)
The Musketeers are still firing, yet the Goblins had their game of the year.
The Anglers are faiding, but need only 1 more win to clinch a playoff berth.
Looking back to their earlier head-to-head game, the Anglers wons, but this week the Musketeers need the win to stay alive.

Glasgow Kilties (7-4) vs GeG Trolls (5-6)
As the Trolls didn't manage to win, the playoff chances have become very slim.
The Kilties stepped up in time and are back in the race for an extended season.
Either team could win this game, but pointing to Glasgow as favourites makes a little more sense.

Goteborg Goblins (5-6) vs Ayr Raiders (4-7)
With last weeks wins, both teams can extend to a 2-game winning streak.
However, the Raiders are out of contention for the playoffs.
The Goblins need 3 consecutive 100+ points victories to keep their playoff dreams going.

An Oriant Stars (6-5) vs Rurhpott Miners (2-9)
One team has been the league doormat until the win over the Devils, the other is the only team on a losing streak.
The Stars desperatly need to win to get back on track after the 6-0 start.
Playing a 2-9 team should be good, but with the Miners scoring more points in week 11, the Stars could drop to 6-6.

Alf Hard Cats (6-5) vs R&D Devils (1-10)
The Hard Cats had regained a playoff spot since week 1, but then they lose to out-of-contention Ayr Raiders.
This week, the Hard Cats meet another non-playoff team.
As the Devils scored 20 points more last week, they shouldn't be clear underdogs at all.

The Dwarves are still the pointswise best team in the league and should get level with the Knights at 8 wins.
Recap: As expected, the Dwarves went on fire, though Jon Kitna's 34.82 points are probably more then one could have expected. The Knights should hope for a career game for Tiki Barber against the at the Bucs, or else the 101.82-62.00 defit will easily last.

Recap: With only the Tampa Bay defense left for the Anglers, a 3-point performance for the Bucs could sneak Maassluis into another win, as Paris hold a 78.26-75.74 lead.

Recap: If Michael Pittman can't get it done on Monday and score at least 18 points, the Trolls will manage to defend their 92.34-74.58 lead to keep the miracle dreams alive.

Recap: The Goblins keep their miracle hopes alive, as they trash the Ayr Raiders 91.66-49.40. Sure, Keyshawn Johnson is officially still on the field for Ayr, but he won't score points the rest of the season.

Recap: The Stars shine once again, as Tom Brady and the Vikings defense score 20+ points each to lift An Oriant over Rurhpott" 101.62-80.02. But is it enough to get the Stars back playoff bound?

Alf Hard Cats (6-5) vs R&D Devils (1-10)
The Hard Cats had regained a playoff spot since week 1, but then they lose to out-of-contention Ayr Raiders.
This week, the Hard Cats meet another non-playoff team.
As the Devils scored 20 points more last week, they shouldn't be clear underdogs at all.
Recap: In the low scoring game of the week, the Alf Hard Cats are possible losers, as they lead 58.54-50.06 with Keenan McCardell still playing for the Devils.

Updated standings after 12 weeks:

McCardell did play tonight : 83 receiving yards, meaning I should win this game 58.54 to 58.36 (Yahoo has not updated yet)

Talk about a close game and I still am in the playoff hunt !

Goteborg Goblins (5-6) vs Ayr Raiders (4-7)

Paris Musketeers: Elven Knights (13), Glasgow Kilties (14)
note: R&D Devils and Ayr Raiders will play eachother in week 13

Week 13 preview
Alf Hard Cats vs An Oriant Stars
The winner goes to 8-5 and will get into pole position for the 4th playoff ticket, for the Hard Cats it could be enough to clinch a playoff ticket.
The loser drops to 7-6 and in the case of the An Oriant Stars, the playoffs could be out of sight.
Note that this matchup is crucial to every other team still in the playoff race.

Elven Knights vs Paris Muskteers
With the remaining schdule, the Knights are one foot into the playoffs with a victory as the 4 other teams with 8 or 7 wins play eachother.
For the Musketeers, a 2-game winning streak will lead them past the Kilties and the Hard Cats-Stars loser, meaning a playoff ticket is in their own hands, despite the 6-6 record.

Garden Dwarves vs Glasgow Kilties
The Dwarves clinch a playoff ticket if they beat the Kilties, but only because the Hard Cats-Stars game will mean that not both can get past them.
The Kilties need to win against the Musketeers and a victory over the Dwarves is almost as crucial if the Hard Cats beat the Stars.

GeG Trolls vs Rurhpott Miners
The Trolls need to win 2 straight due to the Hard Cats-Stars matchup.
The Miners have only a battle against last place to play for.

Goteborg Goblins vs Maassluis Anglers
The Goblins need 2 wins, as the Hard Cats-Stars game is so crucial for them too, and they need about 250 points in those wins to have a chance.
The Anglers have to win one more game to clinch the #1 seed.

Ayr Raiders vs R&D Devils
This game has no effect on the playoff race, the Devils could still leap over the Miners to get off the last place.
The Raiders could win a spot if they win two straight, or drop a spot if the Miners get hot.

This is what it's all about.
I guess we can say the Playoffs start NOW for Paris.
WOW THIS IS FOOTBALL !

it's good to know that's "it's in our hands" to make the post-season.

That's not what I posted, I posted that beating An Oriant could mean you will clinch a berth this week.
The point total for your team thusfar means you have a decent chance to beat other teams on tiebreakers, plus the schedule of other teams could help too this week.
Though, since the point totals are so close, a 100+ performance for a team can lead to going ahead on tiebreakers.

However, since you only play rivals, a 2-game winning streak would be safest, as it will mean a 100% sure playoff ticket.

In the end, for every 7-5 or 6-6 team hoping for the playoffs means needing a 2-game winning streak, the 8-4 teams only need 1 win due to schedules making it impossible to have more then 4 teams with 9+ wins.
To go into the playoffs, 9-5 is enough, while 8-6 is the least a team needs (that is because of either the Hard Cats or the Stars moving up to 8-4 and 3 other teams already having 8+ wins).

I could set up a spreadsheet to show all the options, but that would take about half an hour to show up (on the other hand, I'm in school having "nothing" to do until 16h15 local time.)

EDIT: I need to correct the above text.
Calculation in Excel have shown that it is possible to have:
* 4 teams tied at 9-5, excluding the Anglers at 10-4 or better
* 3 teams tied at 9-5, excluding the Anglers and Knights at 10-4 or better
