How do you not attempt the FG? Yeah, the conditions were bad and the previous attempt didn't look good, but the entire offense looked like shit, so why are they suddenly going to convert a 4th and 11? Also, if you don't want to kick a FG, then how the fuck are you going to win the game?

Weekly bump. I'm afraid the entire Lolphins front office and coaching staff must die in order for this team to win again.

Somebody just forwarded me this email...
--------------------------------------- Little Johnny was in his 4th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up - Fireman, Truck Driver, Salesman, etc. Johnny was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay bar and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy for money." The teacher, obviously shaken by his statement immediately changed the subject and hurriedly set the other children to work on a coloring project. She then took Little Johnny aside and asked him, "Is that really true about your father?" "No," said Johnny, "He's the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins . I was just too embarrassed to say that.

Bah! Cam Cameron is a genius! 0-16 is simply part of his brilliant long-range strategy.

Bumping this just as a reminder that Cameron still needs to go. And the reason he needs to go was more evident in this game than any other, eventhough we won.

In the press conference after the game, Cam Cameron was gushing about how the players were throwing stuff at him after the gane. Somehow I picture Cam as being like Michael Scott from The Office and not quite understanding why the stuff they're throwing at him was so heavy.

I saw ESPNEWS report that Huizenga had met with some real estate developers or something about selling the team. That should make a lot of you happy.

Miami should have done that last year. I don't think the Colts will beat NE this year. I have thought that maybe San Diego would be a good choice, they have a decent chance of beating Indy. Otherwise, Pittsburgh could use the help too.

I am praying for an absolute blizzard for Colts at Patriots in the playoffs. The Pats don't have much of a running game.

they aren't great running it but are a bit underestimated scoring at will and then only getting 4 or 5 a pop makes it seem pedestrian. yes maroney tends to dance a little but the running game is serviceable or at least better than given credit for.

Against the Jets.... New England has shown they are vulnerable to teams that can pound it. And New England has been passing the ball effectively. Nothing like a nice blizzard to negate the passing game and take advantage of their unimpressive running game. But I'm sure you guys would never admit that the Pats could be beaten... The reason the Pats have so many rushing yards is because they have been largely rushing the ball late in games against defenses that have given up.
Look at the NFL stats. Pats have the fewest 20+ yard runs in the league with 2. I wouldn't exactly be afraid of their running game.

Wait, I thought they were running it up? Besides, who said afraid. It's serviceable to the point that it's not a hinderance. That's it. It's not terrible. It's not the Vikings. Middle of the road which is fine.

Which one is it? Is the blizzard going to kill the Pats because they can't run, or is the blizzard going to help them run? I'm confused.

The blizzard will kill the Pat's passing game and force them to employ their subpar running game. Advantage: Other team.
Other teams have shown that it is possible to pound the run on the Patriots, which can still be done in blizzard conditions. Advantage: Other team. Which part aren't you understanding? |

Thats because its tough to have really long runs when the safeties are back in pass coverage. Long runs tend to come on plays where the safeties are UP playing the run, but get blocked. The patriots have the 2nd highest success rate running the ball in the NFL. (Runs of 40% of required yards on 1st, 60% on 2nd, 100% on 3rd). |

I suggest you look at some advanced stats. The patriots running game/run defense is fine. They've been getting run on a lot by teams that are down 20+ points, while they're in the nickle. Pittsburgh did such a great job pounding the ball, didn't they? |

The part where you call their running game "subpar". I pointed out that in their one blizzard game this year, Maroney had a pretty nice showing. Your only excuse was it was the Jets. A team with a pretty decent defense, it's been their offense that has killed them this year.

Because, as Synovia said, everyone is back playing the pass. Get everybody in the box, and their running game is awful. Get in some of these bad weather games, and the Pats aren't going to look quite so dominant. I mean, let's be honest, beating the Jets 20-10 is pretty blah after destroying everybody else by 269 points or however much it's been. I think Kodos is overstating his point a bit due to hate, but the point is valid. The best chance to beat the Patriots will actually be as a result of their home field advantage... the opponents will just have to hope for some seriously cruddy weather and a couple of breaks. Because the Pats won't beat people pounding the ball down the field.

Um, most teams running games are awful if up against everybody in the box. But I would agree bad weather will help opponents. My counterpoint is that doesn't necessarily make the Pats beatable. They still play great in bad weather -- they've won SBs on it. Whereas the Colts barely play a bad weather game all season. And even in bad weather (absent a blizzard), the Pats will still be willing to throw the ball, so I can't see how a team ever will be able to put everyone in the box against the Pats. The Jets game is a perfect example. Critics point out that the 4-5 yards a pop was only because the Jets were playing the pass. And that's right. But that's why the Pats ran the ball. I can tell you right now that if the Jets had put even 8 in the box in this foul weathered game, the Pats would have chucked it with success. Hell, Pennington and his crappy arm did pretty well in it. You see, it's precisely because they will never have to face everyone in the box that they don't have to worry about it. Any team doing it would be committing defensive suicide. Even in bad weather, you can throw 5-15 yard passes at will. I'll just repeat what I said months ago. There is only now one game that matters in the whole season -- Pats v. Colts. I don't believe any other playoff team has a chance against the Pats - bad weather or not. In a bad weather Pats/Colts matchup I give the advantage to the Pats. Both teams rely on the pass so that will hurt them. I admit the Colts running game is better so that will help them. But I don't believe the Colts play very well in cold/bad weather. Last edited by Vinatieri for Prez : 12-20-2007 at 12:30 AM. |
