i have no probs in Lothar. there aren't ever really that many problems that get in the way of gaming.
Astoria finally roleplayed with some female human characters last nite, tons o fun. 2 paladins and a warlock. i don't care if paladin gets nerfed, by the time something gets done i'll be lvl 20 and by then it won't matter cuz i'll be high lvl. they aren't gonna just castrate the class, i'm sure we'll be formidable. i finally came close to kicking someone's ass in a duel. the game is a lot more fun now. if any of you would like to join up and go on an adventure just add "Astoria" to you friends list and give me a holler. |

Well I am playing an undead warlock on Feathermoon a west coast RPG server. I got tired of always being on the good guys team.
Warlocks are mana machines and all you have to do if you get jumped is have your voidwalker taunt the other enemies. Just suck down a healthstone, life tap and feed your voidwalker life while you use your damage over time spells. Also if you get those scrolls of protection, just use it on your voidwalker. The warlock is a complicated class to play, but I am having a blast soloing or in a group.

Stick to the roads and you might have to die a couple of times, but you can get there. I ran my 6 dorf paladin to the docks trying to meet up with deanhouston, although this was probably about the meltdown time with him as he went afk for quite a while and finally logged. I died twice on the way, no big deal. Some big crocs in that swamp And usually it's more like 18 when you have to move on. If you do all the quests in the local areas you won't be 11 for sure. I find around 18 I have a bunch of 20 quests in the local area and then move to other areas where I can load up on a bunch of 13-18 easy runs. You can grind if you want to, I just find it enjoyable to explore and stay on the move doing quests and instances.

yeah, Lonnie, i got to a point where i was upset with the general community (or lack thereof) and my inability to accomplish much alone. i was dying a ton - i had to get like 4 gnoll paws and they were all huddled together. i was tired of waiting for one to stray away from the group so i could handle them one by one, but it was frustrating. i'd hit one and they'd all jump on me. i died like 8 times that day.
i then decided a change of scene was needed, and was foolish to think i could travel all the way up to the Wetlands by myself. i died multiple times. i then tried to pay people to escort me, but they didn't want to do it and i couldn't find anyone with a sense for adventure. oh well. i like to travel and explore and see what people i can meet along the way. i don't like to grind. then it becomes a job and i do this to escape from RL. like i said i had a blast with the people i met last nite. my character had drank a lot of brew and was burping in people's faces and hiccuping. he drew an audience dancing on hot coals. that's where i met up with those two chicks and we had a great time. i've found sticking to the roads is best if you want to avoid as much confict as possible. now when that road happens to cut straight through a city that has lvl ??? monsters in it and can kill you with 3 hits...that ain't cool. if you want to know what i'm talking about start off at Stormwind and travel as far east as you can to the mountains, there you'll see the road the goes north (which is the way to the Wetlands many many miles away). fun game though. it's even more fun with the right group. |

dola,
I've been playing my hunter class differently than my Druid class. For my Druid, I stayed mainly concearned with doing quests and leveling, while working on my herbalism and alchemy as I went. With my hunter, I reversed it. I'm mainly staying focused on working on my skinning, leatherworking, cooking and first aid while doing quests as they come along. It's actually been a lot of fun to not even think about my level for awhile and concentrate on making the best leather armor and food that I can. |

exactly. yet another reason why i level slowly - i do mining and such and try to build up those skills. it can be rather profitable to make quality stuff. even if no one buys it you can sell it to a NPC vendor and get some good cash for your stuff. and being in the Dwarf area i was able to find this one cave that had a TON of copper veins (i'm a miner). not sure if i want to go blacksmith or engineer.

Go engineer. I went blacksmithing and I regret it. Mining is fun, but blacksmithing is very slow to level.

Err, engineering isn't exactly a walk in the park to lvl up either.
My Dwarf Hunter is an Engineer and only at about 140 right now, as I can't find enough tin/silver yet to pump it up. My little baby Pally I made to play when my friend can't be on is a Blacksmith and is getting hooked up with all the useless Copper my hunter has. Blacksmithing seems to take more of the metal, but it's darn near as annoying. I'd say Blacksmithing/Engineering are far and away the toughest two skills to raise up. I'm just not sure if Engineering would really be worth it for a Paladin in the long run, I'm using it for the simple fact I can make great guns for my hunter, and ammo/scopes for those guns. Oh and the goggles, goggles rule..which you'll be able to take advantage of. Blacksmithing would be more beneficial to you in the long run, but just depends on what you want to do. Engineering has some fun little gadgets, but Blacksmithing will have the goods you'll REALLY need. Think you'll end up like me HA, I started getting pissed because I did like you, just wandering around finding mines and working on tradeskills. But you'll hit a point pretty quickly there where you can't raise your skill anymore until you start really levelling up. Kinda annoyed me, as I was stuck for 6-7 lvls without really being able to raise my Engineering, and I'm just now being able to, albeit VERY slowly. |

My blacksmithing is only like 50. My mining is around 120. I find a ton of copper and create some items hoping to level blacksmithing, so that I can start to use all of the tin I have been getting, but its leveling slower Jessica Simpson trying to do a crossword puzzle.

That's really odd, so it's not getting the goods for items that's killing you, it's not getting points? Really strange then. And you're doing Orange/Yellow con items? I'll have to check that out, my Blacksmithing is approaching 50, see if I run into that problem. Sounds like a bug if that's the case. |

enchanting is expensive as heck... but I started advertising that I was enchanting other peoples bracers and stuff and charging them for it but it's still a rough go.
The auction house is the coolest thing ever. I just dump stuff I can't use off and put it up for 24 hours and logon the next day with money in my email. I am doing first aid and enchanting right now, I havent decided on another profession.

Yeah, enchanting is a pain. I have tried to start it up again with my Rogue (Alchemy/Enchanting). The herbs I can easily get on the AH. I figured I could try to find some cheap green weapons and armor on the AH and deenchant them.
Skinning and leatherworking seem to be pretty easy to work up. My hunter has advanced in it very quickly. |

I have been RARELY addicted to a game like this. It's consumed every minute of my available gaming hours for the last two weeks. And I feel like I still haven't scratched the surface yet - there's still so much to explore, do and see. Even my wife watches over my shoulder quite often when I'm playing - so does my 4 year old Son.

So far the coolest area I've seen has got to be Duskwood (20+ level area). It looks like it came out of a horror movie. Really cool.
I've already started several side characters. My hunter on Lothar, my Rogue on the RP server and my Paladin on the PvP server. |

What? My family yells obsenities at me when I start playing the game again.
Duskwood is pretty darn awesome regarding area design. I've died a few times in the northern part of the Raven Hill cemetary due to the fog/dusk like atmosphere. Very difficult to see. |

After reading this thread the last few days it's rather tempting to pick this up. How long does it take to really get going in the game, my gaming time will pick up for winter break but is this a game I can load quickly and play for a half hour once spring semester comes around without waiting forever to do something productive?

You can get a productive half hour in soloing up until the mid 20s, it seems. You actually get an experience boost if you haven't played in a while (even a just a day off). It's a nice system that rewards players that have something to do with their time and can't have their lives revolve around WoW.

I've level 29 and I logged in today for about an hour, played some and logged back out. I'd say 30 minutes might be a little low once you start getting 20+ in levels, but an hour is definitely enough time to get something accomplished. You're not going to be gaining a level in that time, but as an example, In the hour I played today I completed one small quest, advanced two multi-part long quests and got about a quarter of the experience I need for level 30.

To add my $.02. You can get through the newbie area in 3-4 hours and be somewhere around level 10-12. That gives you the ability to start to see the world. I play for 30 minute sessions before I go to work and can get some things done, but you need to have longer (1-2 hours) sessions too so you can group. But the great thing about WoW is the ability to do both. |

Thanks for the information. I could probably find the time for some 1-2 hour play sessions even once school kicks back up in the spring and if the exp boost works as advertised I guess it would still allow a decent rate of progress. Damn you all ::grumble::

I created a new character. A human female. I immediately travelled to a heavy populated area, the front of the trade district in Stormwind, so all people entering could see me. I then took off all my clothes and started dancing. People would constantly stop and make comments or just look before continuing on. I even had one guy trade me a ton of his loot for nothing.
My naked dancing male dwarf did not have a similar effect. |

I was hoping to find the game on sale with this weekend's ads but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'll probably pick up the game this week and have two quick questions again for those playing. Any particular class to stay away from at this point, I am not a powergamer by any stretch but don't want to get stuck with a badly unpowered character when I plan on having to solo most of the time. What server is most of the FOFC'ers on?

Probably a hunter or druid. Those are probably the best solo classes. I wouldn't put any emphasis on race. There seems to not be enough differences to gimp a character. I'd choose off of racial traits.

Forget what I said about blacksmithing before. It is not hard to level up, I just wasn't going about it the right way. I spent around 7 gold in the auction house throughout yesterday buying materials and my blacksmithing went from 60 to 150. I made back about 2 of that selling some items I made already. I also have the materials I need for 7 Golden Rods except for the cheapest item (coarse stone) that I will need to collect while mining. Those seem to fetch at least one gold in return in the auction house, so I should make my money back plus a profit.

Returning to the classes discussion. The higher level I get the better Warriors seem to be. Warriors have some nasty skills and talents at later levels that really helps the class out (overpower). Paladins are still tough, but I don't think they need even the slightest nerf anymore. Priests can be a major pain in PvP, too. Hunters may be the best PvP class there is, if the player has some skill. As a rogue, if I don't open things up with a stun-lock, then a hunter is almost guaranteed to destroy me.
Overall, the more I play, the less I see needs done to improve any of the classes. I would still like to see Warriors given a bit of love. Other than that, all classes are very effective as long as the player doesn't spread himself too thin with his talents. The most balanced class set of any MMORPG and the first real patch isn't even out yet.

I did the talent reset once, because when I first started doing it I put a few points where I didn't want them later. After reseting and putting them all where i wanted, my guy was easily twice as good in combat.
