And then he yells at the pitcher as he rounds the bases. Pretty certain doing it the right way would be hitting a home run and rounding the bases without saying anything.

Do you not agree on the first pitch he swung, missed, then stared down Maholm?

Do you not agree he then hit a home run, stared down Maholm, took his time, then started jawing at him on his way to first?

It doesn't appear Maholm said anything to him, although Gomez started acting crazy again midway between 2nd and 3rd, so we can't tell if Maholm said something then. He also didn't see McCann until he almost ran into him, so I don't think its anything McCann said that set him off again.

Also, it appears to be a beef between Maholm and Gomez dating back to Maholm's days with the Cubs, so it doesn't appear it has anything to do with the Braves.

I'm not arguing that the Braves shouldn't have reacted the way they did, hell Gomez acknowledges it. I'm just saying this didn't come out of nowhere. Yes, Gomez acted like an ass too. But this stems from the pitch that hit Gomez in the knee this year.

I'll go back to what I said earlier in this thread. You don't want someone admiring their homeruns? Don't let them hit them.

I just hope that this ends whatever dumb stuff was going on between Maholm and Gomez. Watching Freddi Gonzalez talk with the Brewers manager, it appears he had literally no idea what any of it was about. Hopefully he sat Maholm down and told him to forget about it, because it probably cost the Braves Freddie Freeman for the rest of the regular season.

Although, I didn't see Freeman throw punches or elbows like the umps said. I definitely saw him push someone, but he's also like 6'5, so the arms are already pretty high.

My only hope is this snaps the Braves out of their latest funk. They're either white hot for 3 weeks, or ice cold for about the same length of time. The Cards deserve home field, they've at least been consistent all year.

I've never seen a player do what Gomez did. Not just the admiring, but he was yelling at the pitcher/other players incessantly as he rounded the bases. Would have wanted my team to do the same as the Braves.

Of course, though, McCann has to be ejected for that.

Not a Brewers fan, but what I saw was the Braves players talking to him first on replay. Or yelling at him, if you like, starting with Freddie Freeman at first.

I mean, I'm not shocked they reacted, but...if this were just Gomez, I'd say the Braves were justified. Given that they seem to react that way to everybody, I think it's a mix of a dumbass showboating and crybabies picking fights.

I'm missing the context, honestly, as I understand the Braves have a reputation. But Gomez starts the yelling before he even reaches Freeman.

Ok, finally watched it. Seriously, baseball players are the biggest bunch of fucking children.

That said, I'd have loved to see Gomez truck around 3rd base and clock the shit out of McCann.

Though apparently one can't point out that the Braves have a history of getting butthurt at young players and HRs.

Gomez is yelling at Malholm and said something like (according to what Gomez said after the game) "You hit me, I hit you".

Sorry if it bugged you, but it's just the honest truth. I give a flying fuck whether some asshole like Gomez lives or dies.

edit to add: That seems only fair to me, I'm pretty sure he could barely give less of a fuck whether I live or die either.

The classlessness keeps on coming!

(though, I admit it is a bit too much to blame an entire fanbase for the over douchiness of JIMG - but he makes it sooo easy).

It seems like since Tony LaRussa left the Cardinals that they haven't been the self-anointed "Keepers of the Unwritten Rules of Baseball" so I guess the Braves are trying to fill that role.

Only three teams have allowed fewer HR's than the Braves, so this isn't a problem for them.

Again, at the risk of repeating myself ... you're overestimating my Braves fandom. I'm as often than not exposed to their doings by the virtue of proximity, not intense interest.

Maybe the Cards and Braves pick up a lot of these rules during postseason play so that would be why you and MBBF are not familiar with them.

Well, I have gotten myself acquainted with postseason play two of the last six years at least. I just figure LaRussa is a douche bag and Mike Matheny is not.

I find it funny too that someone is wishing that Gomez gets killed at the plate because he admired his HR against someone who he obviously had developed a rivalry with.

Seriously, you want the dude dead because of it? It is not like he drinks and drives or takes drugs or beats his wife or tries to cover up his PED use. No, he just shows up the pitcher who has hit him in the past and you want him dead?

Par for the course, I guess, but damn dude. It is just a baseball game.

Walk off win for the Rangers, with Jurickson Profar going yard in the first AB of the bottom of the 9th. They overcome a FOUR error second inning.

They've gone 6-2 over the last 8 games, and yet still have lost 2 games to Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the WC race. Crazy stuff.

Big congrats to Greg Holland. Last night, he passed two legendary Royals closers (Jeff Montgomery and Dan Quisenberry) to become the Royals single season save leader. He notched his 46th save and still has three more games to add to it.

Seeing this happen also really makes me miss Quiz. I was lucky enough to meet him on more than one occasion and he was a fantastic guy who died way too soon.

As a follow on to last night's Angels-Rangers game, that was the 4th straight game in Arlington where the Rangers beat the Angels with a walk-off home run.

Well, Tampa finally lost tonight, so if Texas can win it looks like 2 teams tied at 90-70 and the Rangers at 89-71.

Red Sox magic number down to 1 for homefield. Cardinals/Braves should be tied within the hour.

btw, Houston realizes they've locked up the #1 pick/IFA pool and can start trying again at any time, right?
