Unruly passenger on JFK flight refuses to wear mask, snorts white powder, gropes woman, utters racial slurs —prompting emergency landing
So is this guy running for "Most terrible human being ever" or something?

I get the sense that Nate Silver has fallen into the some people really love him and some people *really* hate him zone. I think that he's fine. And while I don't think that this will be some world-changing book, I expect that I'll devour it over the course of a weekend and then spend a week feeling smarter than I am like I used to do when Gladwell came out with a new book. |

I'm betting the guy sitting in jail is going to feel rather silly after telling his new cellmates that an 11 year old girl fended him off.

Nate Silver seems to be the equivalent of Bill Simmons in going from cult hero to expanding his brand to love him or hate him. Although I haven't seen or heard anything from or about Bill Simmons in 3 or 4 years, so maybe Silver's remained more relevant.

First watermelon of the year was a dud. Entire thing was light pink and tasted like rind.

I woke up this morning wondering what it would be like if we all were born with a gene that at some point in our life while we were chewing suddenly forced us to bite our tongue off, but we didn't know when. Could be when you are 3 years old or 80. Wonder how our habits would change? More liquid food? Gum would be a thing of the past for sure.

My home office is in the basement.
I went upstairs and my 22 month old daughter is sitting in her highchair, watching some show on her nanny's iPhone while eating lunch. I walk over to say hi and give my daughter a kiss. I get up in her business a bit and she waves her hand at me and says: "Daddy, go work. Daddy, go downstairs with Scully (our dog)."

I just went to a Dr’s office that had their standard release form laminated. You signed it w/ a dry erase marker. They scanned it in and erased it. What a smart way to save paper.

I'm only echoing what's been said in here many times before, but right now it feels like you're gonna get left in the dust if you don't scrape up every asset you've got to get one of the last property scraps left on the table, but also the bubble is primed to burst at any time and you could pay tens of thousands above listing to get locked into some literal shithole you gave up the right to inspect & then immediately go $100K underwater.

I hate it when I write a check, which is rare, and the person takes forever to cash it. I always keep a 1-2K buffer in my account, so it isn't about the money, it is just the OCD in me that hates it not being cashed.

Still an issue because the seams are clearly on the outside if you fold them the wrong way.

I see absolutely no point in keeping a paper ledger when everything is available on my phone. Like most people my debit card is linked to checking and I use it for almost every purchase. I’m not about to whip out a freaking checkbook every time I go to Panera. It’s not 1987. |

I have this irrational fear that when I use my Keurig, hit brew, it starts the process but needs more water that when I remove the reservoir I am going to get sprayed in the face with residual hot water.

We just fill the reservoir with one of those large, plastic red Coke cups. We never really remove it.

Ditto. At one point it was necessary, but everything is online now so why? Plus, I don't use a debit card except for getting cash so the only things I'm really keeping track of on my checking account are monthly bills. There are no day in, day out payments being processed that I haven't manually input or have on auto-draft.

Last August I signed a contract for the installation of 10 windows. They told me they'd be able to schedule installation for 2 months out, it ended up being about 5. Not really surprising. They got 9 windows then in but had measured the 10th wrong, and said they re-ordered it, and would put me at the front of the install list when they got it in about a month. I don't hear anything for about 3 months, I check in, they said it got sent to some rural Idaho warehouse by mistake, but they'll get it back and have it installed in a month. A couple more months go by. They call and say they're definitely going to have it in next month, the week of May 24. That's come and gone and I've heard nothing.
I check their Facebook page, which averages about 20 posts a month, and they've had zero posts since the end of April. No other sign that they've gone out of business or anything, and they have been around for decades. Meanwhile I'm sitting here with 9 installed windows, about $9,000 worth installed, and I haven't paid a cent for them. I guess I just lay low at this point and see what happens. But I don't feel like I need to constantly badger this company to pay them. I have called them dozens and dozens of times and it has always been a struggle, same as with every other contractor I've ever hired here. I guess just because the city population and wealth has exploded and existing companies just aren't setup for what Boise has become. Edit: More annoyingly, I'm currently down a bathroom because of water damage. The restoration company moved quickly, home insurance approved the bid, and told me they'd definitely put the money into my checking account last Tuesday. That never happened, and they haven't responded to any of my emails or voicemails. It takes at lest 5 attempted contacts to get a response to anything home related. Even when I just want to give them money, but also when they're supposed to give me money. Last edited by molson : 06-02-2021 at 11:14 AM. |

Just because I was bored, I figured out I ran almost 1100 miles last year. Roughly the equivalent of running from Las Vegas to Portland. (And still use the same pair of running shoes)

Why the hell does it take Dominos over an hour and twenty minutes to deliver a pizza? Especially when the original quoted time was 29 minutes.

Between that Odor "strike three" and watching NCAA baseball this weekend I'm now convinced that it's time to go to some automated system for calling balls & strikes. It's LLWS level bad.
At this point a coin-flipping machine would be an improvement.

You know what consistently costs more than two liters of Coca-Cola in convenience stores across America? One liter of Coca-Cola.

My high school went viral for something good, which is always nice - the valedictorian gave away a $40,000 scholarship award so it could be given to a student who will attend community college like her mother did.
I've seen this on CNN and other places, but they're all leaving out the best part - this isn't even really a scholarship, it's just 4 $10k privately-funded cash awards given every year as long as she's in school, she could have spent them on anything she wanted. She just decided that since she's going to Harvard on a full scholarship there are other students at Fitchburg High (the public high school in a blue collar town), who could use it a lot more. Though I kind of feel bad for the person who wins it next year, who will also probably have a full ride or close to it to somewhere, as most winners of this award do. Edit: I got the "honorable mention" version of this award where you get about $250 for writing the scholarship board a letter about what school you're going to and what you want to study, etc. I probably spent it on beer. I cannot figure out why so many websites have "keep me logged in" checkboxes, and every time I go back to those sites, I have to log in again unless I go back to that site on the same day I log in. What's the point?
