Watching the press conference, and I'm pretty impressed with Pearl's personality and poise. Hopefully, UT will put this season (with the controversy), and the game behind them, and MSU gets the chance to beat them by more than a point next season.

CBP is very good with the media & I appreciate the kind words (on behalf of the Vol Nation) but to be honest a deep run next year seems as unlikely or even less likely to me than it did this season even with the controversy.

Brian Williams is the only returning big of any consequence and the incoming class has no one over 6'8 (although that one guy is a McD A-A).

Absent Chism then there's really no sign of leadership among the returnees either. I expect a return to the run/trap/press style next year with Williams (who is foul prone) surrounded by 1-2 SF's and 2-3 guards and unless the two freshman guards are ready to play major minutes then this group doesn't shoot the ball well enough to do a whole lot.

Something like 17-13 wouldn't surprised me in the least frankly.

Yet another fun, close game. This is definitely one of the better tournaments I can remember for that.

Should have been Zubek's 5th. Then again, last time down, should have been a travel on Baylor instead of a dunk.

Every time it looks like Baylor is going to pull away from Duke, a ref steps up and makes a big play.

Duke has won this game fairly. Big rebounds and clutch plays down the stretch.

Just a terrible job by Baylor on defense in the last 5 minutes, wide open 3's left and right and no boxing out at all.

Watching this game I've found myself rooting for Duke for the first time in ages, I used to be a Duke-hater. I think Coach K leading the Olympic team to gold after 2004's embarrassment is part of the reason. It doesn't hurt that they're the only Southeastern team left and they're playing against a Texas school.

If the Baylor guy doesn't keep slapping him when Schyer clearly calls timeout AND the whistle blows your point is moot.

Oh well, 3 of the 4 I would have liked to see win the Regional Finals did, but I honestly don't know a lot about Baylor so I guess it's no biggie. I think WV can beat Duke.

Would like to see Butler do it, but Izzo has a week to figure them out. Looks like a MSU-WV final to me.

Yup, Scheyer gets a bad rap because he's white and in Durham, but he's really nothing like Wojo or Laettner or Hurley or Redick, if he were anywhere else everyone would love him IMO.

Baylor just looks seriously undisciplined and poorly coached here at the end.

Duke is the only team surviving in my bracket.

I agonized over whether Michigan State would beat Ohio State in my bracket...then went with Ohio State. So close to having my final game intact.

West Virginia is the team that really surprised me here. Hating huggins almost never bites me at tourney time.

Are you fucking kidding . They were handed the fucking game in the last 5 minutes by the refs absol fucking lutely! I am not a fan of Baylor's but it was so obvious that they were giving Duke all the calls at the end. That charging call was a foul on Duke was the turning point right there. The NCAA should just increase the tournament to 180 teams what a joke the Final four is.

Well, Baylor is in Texas. Waco, I know. But it's in Texas. That's all you need to know. Texas does not lack for attractive females.

I had Duke, WV, Syracuse and Kansas.
I had 5 of the final 8 missing only the more unlikely teams of Mich St, Tennessee and Butler.

I managed a 50/50 split on my Final Four in getting WVU and Duke in, but like most others lost out on Kansas and Syracuse when they got beat. Alas, Kansas was my winning pick, so I only have one game left I can get right (took WVU over Duke). Even so, with all the mess, I'm still at 96.5 percentile on ESPN. Not too bad (though it will go down since I can do no better than 1-2 in the final three games).

I like how, after last season, the experts were like "PICK CHALK! ALWAYS PICK CHALK! CHALK WINS!"

2 fives, a two, and a 1. That's one chalk pick. It just goes to show that anything can happen. Four one seeds can make it to the final four, or barely one (or even none can). Talking heads are so worthless.

I agree talking heads are useless, but this year really is an aberration. 3-4 years from now if we consistently have seeds higher than a 3 in the final 4 then maybe there is something there, but until then I still think chalk is the way to go.

NCAA Basketball - CBSSports.com

Going back 20 years, you have 11 years where at least 2 #1 seeds made the Final Four. However, that's usually the limit as only 3 times were there 3 #1's and 2008 was the only time all 4 made it. So, you have about a 50/50 chance of getting 2 Final Four teams right if you go chalk.

Years above 10:
2010: 13
2006: 20
2005: 11
2000: 22
1996: 11
1992: 13
1990: 12

So it looks like you have a 12ish year about once every 4-5 years, and a 20ish year about once per decade.

I have a hard time seeing Izzo go anywhere else. If there is a coach in college basketball today that is married to one institution, it's Izzo. He's been at Michigan State for over a quarter of a century, as Jud's assistant before taking over when the old man retired.

Edit: And I'm sure this won't be the first time he's been offered more money to jump ship.
