I get what Jon is saying. Eason looks more like a QB for a heavy pass offense that classically is connected to the west coast than the "old man football" usually played in the SEC, and most especially by Georgia. Not a slam on either style, and the stereotypes are not as true as they once where.

As for Georgia, I know there are some nut job fans out there that Kirby would win a title in his first year, but I don't know any of them personally. Most people I talk to or hear on talk radio predicted 8 wins as a high-water mark, with a 7 win season not really surprising. Kirby just doesn't have the personnel he needs to succeed right now. Both lines of scrimmage are very weak, and Georgia has just failed to develop a good outside receiver.

My fear right now is that Eason is going to get beat up, and he is not going to develop like he should. He has the physical and mental abilities to be something special down the road, but playing on an offense with too many holes might cause him to develop bad habits that it will be tough to break.

BYU's running game pounded us probably worse than anyone since Oklahoma 2 years ago. The Oline and D-line both struggled with your size and strength up front while your secondary and linebackers seemed to struggle with WVU's speed.

It was an interesting matchup of strength vs weakness and a really fun game.

I enjoyed, I hated the up and down, and this BYU team is killing my heart.

Our loss to Utah was 2 by 1 point
Our loss to UCLA was by 3 points

And now, this loss by 3 points

All 3 games we were in the position to do something for the win.

You have 2 kick ass WR's that can tear it up and catch.

Obviously a lack of development (given his team) would suit me just fine but if I were inclined differently, I might be concerned about having a coordinator intent on having "one last big success" instead of doing what's best for the team and the player.

It's as though Chaney is almost hellbent on making this Eason's team (showcase?) instead of playing to their strengths & downplaying their weaknesses.

If they don't have the guts to overrule the refs on the field and make the obvious call, there shouldn't be a review in those situations.

Here is the full statement from the Pac-12 in regards to the helmet-to-helmet hit initiated by UCLA's Tahaan Goodman to Stanford's Francis Owusu on Saturday. It was determined during the game it was not targeting and confirmed again after further review. "Our conference office review of the play involving the tackle by UCLA's Tahaan Goodman of Stanford's Francis Owusu during Saturday night's game confirmed that the tackle was legal per NCAA playing rules. Per NCAA rules, the Stanford player was no longer a defenseless player once he caught the ball, established himself, and turned upfield. At that point the Stanford player became a ball carrier and was not deemed defenseless, which meant that NCAA Playing Rule 9-1-4 would not apply (hits to the head or neck area of a defenseless player). When analyzing NCAA Playing Rule 9-1-3, which states "No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet" it was determined that the crown of the helmet was not used. While there certainly was helmet to helmet contact, neither the game officials on the field or the replay officials called targeting because the contact was with the front of the helmet and not the crown (top) of the helmet. Additionally, we send in every targeting call and replay review of potential targeting calls, to the NCAA for review and feedback. "The Pac-12 Conference holds student-athlete health and safety to the highest regard and regrets the injury sustained on this play. We have been active in adopting player safety rules in games and practices, and have been actively involved in promoting and funding research that supports student-athlete well being and safety. Going forward, and in line with Coach David Shaw's concerns about this play, we expect additional discussion around the targeting rule during the offseason review process and will be an active participant in discussions to further reduce helmet to helmet contact."
