Texas fans have to be happy with Year 1 of the Shaka era, though. I mean...he's up to his old tricks.

I'm honestly not expecting a huge improvement next year. I'm thinking years 3 and 4 will be where he really starts to shine.

But yeah, I was impressed with what he did this season. It was clear that being in a Power 5 conference didn't overwhelm him. To paraphrase Rumsfeld, he did an incredible job of coaching what he had, instead of coaching exactly what he wanted.

I've lost 1 team from the final
2 from the final four
3 of my elite eight & sweet sixteen are gone
And yet I'm in the 84th percentile nationally on ESPN

Hey, an 11 seed is favored over a 3 seed today. Great job committee!

Yale has value at +6.5. Power ratings say 2-4 points.

Same for Little Rock at +6.5.

I mentioned it to some friends when the seedings came out that Gonzaga and Wichita could be favored to win every game to the final four. Wichita was only 1 pt underdogs to az and now 3 pt faves to Miami. It's ridiculous how badly they failed this year leaving out St Marys, SDSU, Monmouth. If there was a year to have extra mid majors it was this year with all the averageness in the major conferences.

They really fucked it up.

Not to mention the travesty of having Indiana and Kentucky, two borderline top 10 teams, meeting in the round of 32.

Coastal Carolina plays in the second round of the CIT today t 2 pm. Fortunately they drew another home game, unfortunately the committee did not listen to me and pair them against a Sun Belt team. Furman got the nod there, and if both of them win today that would be a fun third round match. But CCU has to get by New Hampshire today who took care of Fairfield pretty easily in the first round. New Hampshire is playing on one day less rest and had to travel, so I hope those factors play into the game today.

So are all the hoops fans sleeping in here? Thread empty, pretty surprising start to the Miami game (27-6!!!!) followed by Shockers surging back with 11 point run.

Twitter has been pretty interesting at start of this game, with a weird anti-Shockers backlash from folks who seem to want to defend the seeds/committee. While I can understand it as a bit of a "I hate hot takes" sentiment, it seems like creative a worse narrative than the one they are trying to combat. I'm now squarely rooting for the Shockers to come back and win this game.

Not over yet, but after watching Rodriguez throw up a bank prayer it feels like this is just not Wichita State's day. Hard to overcome 35% shooting when opponent is hitting 50%, no matter how many offensive boards you chase down.

Coastal wins by 9! Furman down by 11 late. 3rd round is either at one of top 3 teams, who got a bye till this round thanks to not having enough teams for the tournament or possibly at home again (or on the road) against one of the teams that have been playing since round 1. woohoo!

opened -3.5 @ TI and -3 @ CG. -2 pretty much everywhere else in Vegas to open.

Keep waiting for Zag money to come in instead of buying the half on Utah.

Ran around some place with my wife this morning on the Indiana side of the greater Louisville area. I bet 4 out of every 5 people we ran into had on either an IU or UK shirt on today. If you want to do some street racing, 5:00 would be a good time to do it there. Really hoping the Hoosiers pull this one out, but Indiana does match up well with Kentucky's weaknesses. The media are talking about the Yogi/Ulis matchup, but it's how Bryant, Anunoby, and company handle the front court.

Ulis' AAU coach really wanted him to go to Iowa. In fact he was going to Iowa until KU came into the picture.
Can you imagine Iowa with Ulis at point.

This Indiana/Kentucky match up should be a sweet 16 if not an elite 8 match up. Not in the round of 32.

Elite 8? Neither are top 8 teams, nor 1 or 2 seeds. Maybe Sweet 16, but both are probably 4/5 seeds, which is where they ended up. It's the tournament so games should be close/good.

Is there a single college team that plays well in end game down by 2-4 situations?

Fing Indiana blew one of my brackets. 2 of my 4 teams are gone from that one and I had Kentucky winning it all.

Based on THIS year. This was the time to play this game. As far as I know the committee is suppose to overlook history and tradition and focus on the year being played.

So proud of the way Indiana played through a lot of adversity with multiple injuries and still managed to come out on top against a very good Kentucky team. On to the Sweet 16!

After the crazy shit that was going on prior to the season, I thought this was going to be a dismal year that ended with a record around .500 and the end of Crean's tenure in Indiana. I think he has done an outstanding job getting this team to where they are. Hopefully none of these core guys pulls an Oladipo and leaves early.

Also, is it just me, or does Yogi Ferrell remind anyone else of Jameer Nelson?

I just hope Troy Williams stops his out-of-control turnover crap. I cringe whenever he starts driving. OG does little things that win games. Williams does things that lose you the game. He always goes for the flashy play instead of the high-percentage shot.

Crean has done a great job this season. I thought after the thrashing by Duke that it was going to be a lost season, but this team rallied and started playing defense. Gotta give Crean a ton of credit. I'm happy for him.

They are losing by 23 and Fran uses their first time out with 41 seconds left in the first half.. so you're telling me that's the only time in the first half that justified a time out?

Worst game of the day, I hope. Back to housework.

McCaffery's gotta go. Two monumental collapses in the last three years and two huge blowout losses in the round of 32. This team was a 1 seed six weeks ago and now they're not even competetive.

SFA is looking like they're not a 14th seed. This is just a damn good team from what I am watching. They're definitely not a fluke cinderella when it comes to the eye test.

Edit: What a shit ending.

It was interesting watching the 538 expected win % for that game. I felt like they were really underselling ND's chances late. Easy to say now, but if feels like time and time again the established team finds a way in that type of situation.
