Chrsi Durkin, 4-star QB (drop-back) out of Ohio, de-commits from Michigan State and commits to....Virginia Tech?!?!

When does that ever happen?

EDIT: He's 6'4" 235#, so he'll probably get moved to TE before they move him back to QB.

4* JUCO WR Nick Kurtz just signed his LOI to play at BYU. Kurtz was recruited and offered by Akron, Cal, Illinois, Kansas State, Kentucky, LSU, Oregon, San Jose St, Texas Tech, USC and Utah State.

Lately, I would say 9 times out of 10 we lose a battle like that. I think Cody Hoffman's ability has helped him see he could thrive here.

BYU also signed DB Michael Shelton as a mid year. Teams backed off when he verbaled to BYU but Auburn kept pushing and made an offer on him. He is currently a 2* DB and a two time junior olympian. With the injuries we took at DB this year, it's a needed blessing.

Surprised to see no comments about Raekwon McMillan (GA) and Johnnie Dixon (FL) committing to Ohio State this week. Both wins for Meyer over Saban in the south.

Auburn grabbed some DBs from 'Bama as well.

RM IS A PLAYER.
But to be fair Obama wasn't even involved until Nov. Kept hearing rumbkings from some of the other Georgia contingent that Clemson was going to get into consideration shape but ultimately it never materialized.

Dwight Williams picking UCLA was a surprise.

Bryce Dixon will probably pick USC.

Joe Mixon - who knows?

I like the odds of him sticking with OU better than I do Williams getting in law school.

I really doubt Mixon changes his commit.

Kept waiting for someone to do that today. "I'm commiting to the University of UCLA", like they did in the UA game.

Yeah, it helps that we have a GA from there. Tee Shepard is talking about OU as well, no one knows how bad we actually want him, but he has set up an official I guess.

I thought Tee was all USC?

Oklahoma was pulling guys from Fresno (and Cali) long before former UCLA DB Viney was a GA there.

Biggins on Mixon:
Mixon made VERY strong indications to UCLA he was coming as recently as 24 hours ago. They made a late night switch to Oklahoma and word started to leak out this morning. No one from Mixon's camp bothered to reach out to tell anyone at UCLA about the switch, although they did hear he was going to probably chose OU before the announcement. The Mixon camp basically handled their whole recruitment like a circus for the last month and I wouldn't blame Mora if he's more than a little ticked off.

I also know Mixon and his inner circle still want to be recruited by UCLA and have said things could change on SD, even saying he would probably sign with UCLA in the end. I personally would pass and wish him luck at OU. He's a talented player but I would pass and save myself the headache.

Biggest surprise since Lance Bass coming out of the closet. His dad and Sark go waaaaay back, and he was always going to sign wherever Sark was if offered.

Tee is very close to Viney and the other Fresno guys. Has OVs setup to OU and USC. Tried to enroll last year(I think it was) at OU after his Notre Dame debacle but had to sit a year of course. OU has seemingly been hot and cold with him, so I USC wouldn't surprise me.

CB John Plattenburg flips from UCLA to USC. I think this is a sign that Tee Shepherd is out. It's hard for guys with academic records like Shepherd to get into USC.

Good pickup for USC. Our DB class last year didn't even cracked the lineup this year. Plus his mom is an SC grad.

Meaning that he dropped out of a different university, or does he have bad grades at the JC? For all the NCAA clearinghouse issues and flipping schools drama even going back to HS I never got the sense he was an academic risk.

Only 1 pick up for ND at the all-star games, but it was a huge one in Nyles Morgan given ND's need at ILB. Hopefully Ole Miss doesn't up their offer to him before signing day.

He has transferred multiple times and has been at multiple JC's. His transcripts are going to be difficult to process and there are questions about grades.

Soap opera going on in the DC area.

4-5 star Cornerback Jalen Tabor has been touting Maryland since his junior year, talking up Stefon Diggs (a WR recruit in the Tavon Austin mold who Maryland kept away from Ohio State among others) and the "StayHomeMovement" in the DC area. With him, top OL Damian Prince and a good friend of Tabor's has been doing the same thing, touting Maryland but receiving offers from FSU, South Carolina, Florida, etc. Damian, in honor of his grandmother, says all along that he will commit on Valentine's Day, not NSD.

Last week, out of the blue, Tabor commits to Arizona (of all places) over Alabama and Maryland. Fast forward a week, and he now flips to Florida, while Prince announces he will commit on NSD. Word has it they have talked during the week and have always wanted to play together. Tabor will be an early enrollee, so he needs to get his paperwork in today and will start classes in Gainesville on Monday. Speculation is that Prince is moving up his announcement so he too can go to Florida.

From a Maryland perspective, this, paired with Franklin's apparent move to PSU is soul-crushing. Certainly can't blame the kids for doing what they're doing, but man...

He's got the frame for (and was projected to be) a DT, but needs weight room work and won't be an instant impact guy like EV, especially after missing his whole SR year. Fwiw, I don't think anyone was really mad at Mora in either situation - perplexed and annoyed at Vanderdoes, sure, because the personal issues didn't change between when he signed the NLI and changed his mind, but he was never someone we were relying on or stopped recruiting other players for. (If anything, there was decently strong sentiment that BK was going overboard and should just give it up when EV was going through the appeals process.) The true vitriol is reserved for guys like Alex Anzalone or Deontay Greenberry who are committed for months and then flip in the last week or on signing day. Dickerson seems like a good kid in a shitty situation who handled it properly - hope it works out for him.

Maybe we can get Thomas Holley now, depending on if Franklin keeps Larry Johnson Sr. on staff at Penn State or not. Only other big targets I really see us having a chance with are Isaiah McKenzie (Irish if he gets his SAT up high enough), Juju Smith and Braden Smith. I know places list us in on Michiah Quick, but I assume he's Oklahoma's to lose.

Sark will work around it, he understands it. I hope the fact Kiffin is at Bama now makes him walk away from there.

Bama isn't really in the picture, not since Viane left. It's not so much a Sark thing, it's a USC thing. I can't remember the last guy who went on one, Carroll was against them going on it. Might have been a FB or a LB who did, but shortly left to BYU? I tend to forget things from the last ten years or so

Believe it was Uona Kavienga and I may have completely fubar'ed the spelling of his name.

Regardless, Bug is probably right, if he's set on the mission he's probably not going to end up at SC, although I think he's good enough that I'd like to see him here anyway.

Not sure what thread to put this in but since it's technically a signing I guess this one will work.

During all the holiday stuff I missed this until now but Alabama has signed D.J. Pettway from East Mississippi Community College. He was a 4* recruit back in 2011 that was eventually dismissed from both the team & the university (along with three teammates) after beating the hell out of a student in order to steal his laptop & debit card.

D.J. Pettway made 'horrible decision' but followed guidelines to deserve 'second chance,' Alabama's Nick Saban says | AL.com

I don't see why they don't grab him. I know you don't need a guard as much, but he is ready to play and it's like a one year stop measure to grab more players when sanctions are off
