I'm going to bed.
Thank you very much, Alan, for the effort and work and imagination to pull off this expansion. I very much look forward to wreaking havo...uh, enjoying my return to FOOL Classic (thats a pun). Thanks everyone else for the welcome (back) to the league. We will all continue to ignore the elephant in the room (that if Alan had revealed who the prospective expansion owners were, the vote may have been different. ) Good night Teach, that last bit was for you. :-x

Ok, going to blast through the last 9 rounds since both draft lists are gone and this can get pretty boring fast now I'll post a final summary of the last 9 rounds once done.

Well 2 of 3 guys I vacillated on were picked. Oh well. I have a little bit of cash now to go buy replacements.

Probably the same reasons I let him go to free agency a few years ago.

Yeah. That is an interesting thing. I think looking at it now, you only got like two guys that were even on my list. Maybe 3. I don't recall now and I don't have it in front of me. But...yeah, that's an interesting thing. My philosophy on expansion drafting obviously has a lot to do with the amount of talent available. Especially compared to say, the draft in 1966. So when I saw that I pretty much knew that I had two ideas, I could try to scrape and grab what little talent there was and try to make that work or try to use the expansion draft to grab as many "value" players as possible. The more guys I could snag from here, the fewer I have to overpay for during free agency (and it seems like there's a lot of guys in the FA pool wanting to be overpaid based on their numbers...) and well, it's not even so much an issue of not wanting to "rebuild", as much as there just wasn't a lot in my mind to rebuild with. I could've made better picks in the later rounds, but I just got tired of making the list and honestly, at that point I just didn't have guys who fit into my plans anyway. Plus, it takes a few seasons to really feel out the names, the players and the league before you can really start to get an idea of how you're going to compete. So our philosophy is to put the best team possible on the field, for the least amount of money. Then we go from there and build as we need to, either using the Thanksgiving Turkey Methodology (tm) where we pick apart the team as necessary if we're not able to build on what we have or go with the Lincoln Logs Strategy (tm) where we build on what we've got, add to it and see if we can live in it. (aka, make the playoffs/win a title.) The first 5 years of expansion are really just getting acclimated to the temperature of the league for me, though. Sometimes, that results in a team that wins quickly (like Compton in '69/'70) and other teams, it means it takes a bit to get the show going. But I like operating teams in 5-year cycles because it makes fast-sim more interesting for me or else. Only time it didn't work was with Boston/St. Louis, but there's a reason for that... Should be interesting to see how this goes, as I'm still getting acquainted to the players in this league. Thanks for running the draft Alan. Good luck, Tim. |
