2.2 - Brian Leetch (Offensive Defenseman) - New York Rangers, Toronto, Boston

Not where I expected to go with this pick, but this is a tough category to nab a premium player (especially with who is off the board already) and Leetch, IMO, fits that bill.

Some think of him as the greatest American-born hockey player of all time, and I agree. Hell of an offensive player. One of 5 defensemen to score over 100 points on a season, and one of 7 with over 1000 points in his career. Won the Norris twice, an All-Star 11 times, and most importantly, took the Conn Smythe home in 1994.

2.3 Patrick Roy (Goalie)

Winningest goalie in the history of the NHL. He led Montreal to the Stanley Cup as a rookie goaltender. He won three more Stanley Cups. He also won 3 Con Smythes, 3 Vezina Trophies.

As far as big game goaltenders, there really isn't any better than Patrick Roy.

I'm gonna go be sick now.

Yeah, maybe it was a bit early on Cam Neely, but whenever I think "power forward", he's the first player I think of. I think he pretty much defned the role as it's understood today. I considered him the top power forward on the board (after Gordie Howe) and given the limited number of teams he played for, it made it easier.

2.4- Scott Stevens ( Biggest Hitter)

This video says it all. The top 3 are insane. He single handedly ruined Eric Lindros' career.

People say the devils success was a result of the trap. I say it was a result of opposing players being reluctant to come over the middle.

And all his hits were clean, the guy was just a beast.

Factor in he captained 3 stanley cup teams and was a 13 time all star, he was one of the few players who didn't score goals that you would pay to watch. I miss watching him play

I had thought about taking Stevens, as he's one of my all-time favorite players. I miss watching him play, too.

How great is that youtube clip. I remeber Kovlov trying to skate off the ice after it and his legs were jelly

Interesting, I had thought of using Stevens as both lockdown d-man or leader, but yeah, punishing hitter is a better fit.

Was debating between two guys, one with more Stanley Cups and the other with more wins. I select

Hector "Toe" Blake Head Coach (Montreal)

13 seasons behind the bench winning 8 Stanley Cups.

He was #2 on my list for leader behind Messier, being the captain of that dynasty. I don't really know much of him as a player, besides one thing...

Another guy that can go in many different spots. He could be the Leader/Captain but I will put him in the playmaker category since he has the second most career assists.

2.9 - Playmaker - Ron Francis

So I know this was answered but I am stoopid.

Coaches count towards the team, so for example I have a devil so Jauque Lemair is off the board for me, correct?

Coaches count towards teams. But since Vtbub drafted Gretzky as a player...that does not remove him from taking a Coyote. Understand?

When you draft a head coach, you cover all the teams he was head coach for.

You do not cover any teams he played for, or worked for in some other capacity (assistant, GM, scout, minor league coach, etc).

50+ every season til his last. Bonus of all with one team made the pick even easier.

I think that due to the nature of the rules, we're going to see a few cases like Oilers today where somebody takes a player he's not actually allowed to pick. This has the potential to slow us down.

A suggestion would be to allow subsequent teams to keep picking, with the offending team being able to repick any time they come back and realize what's happened. Call it the Minnesota Vikings rule.

The downside is that the ineligible player may be a guy that a later team would want. Not sure how you get around that, other than to say that everyone is responsible for keeping an eye on the other rosters and being aware of an illegal pick. That would keep us moving, but may also be too much work.

Thoughts?

If there's a case like Oilers today, I think anyone drafting after him should have free reign to take Ron Francis. It's not like Oilers can.

Yeah, I'd be fine with that. The concern would be if the next guy doesn't notice right away (like happened today) and then says "hey, I would have picked that guy if I'd known..."

Yeah, I think your suggestion of people making sure to keep track themselves is a valid one in this case too. Anyone can point it out if they want, but they don't have to until it's their pick.

I don't care about not getting Francis, I just think since my pick was made before the error was known I shouldn't lose my guy if he wanted him.

DeTox your pick stands...if you want to take Francis you should say so before Oilers makes his pick...if you want to keep Modano then just leave things the way they are.

What site do hockey fans use to look up stats? I honestly don't know what I'd do without baseball-reference and their sibling basketball and football sites.

I know hockey-reference is in development, but it ain't there yet.

Edit, I found "The Internet Hockey Database", holy crap my man Dino Ciccarelli is 16th all-time in goals scored? Crazy
