Green scrambled for a first down and slid. Geathers started going for the hit just after Green started his slide. He ended up putting his shoulder into Green's helmet, snapping Green's head back and slamming it against the ground.

Green still hasn't moved and the stretcher is coming out. Very scary. This doesn't look like it's being treated as a concussion ... it looks like a back/spinal injury.

The hit wasn't helmet to helmet, it ended up shoulder to chest but was so hard that it jolted Green's head into the ground. I don't think Gathers actually hit Green's helmet.

The young Kellen Winslow just scored his first NFL touchdown. He's a SOLDIER!

That's standard for this kind of thing. They'll immobilize him untill they get X-ray's.

It wasn't helmet to helmet, it was more shoulder to head, which frankly is just as bad. And despite what the announcers are saying, the hit clearly came after Green gave himself up.

I haven't been paying much attention to these clows broadcasting the game, but they just said as Green was being taken off on the stretcher that "it looks much worse than it is" because the NFL doesn't want to take any chances. This despite the fact that Green didn't move for 10 minutes, didn't move his hands at all when they were carting him off and appeared to have his eyes closed. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, but if Green's injury is serious they should be beaten with sticks and kicked in the balls.

Did he immediately slam dunk the ball over the goal-post, fall wrong on his leg, compound fracture and out for the season?

As if the Chiefs didn't have enough problems on offense, they have now completely fallen apart.

I was hoping for that, but no. I think that'll happen when Braylon Edwards scores a touchdown this year, though.

Browns CB Leigh Bodden has the clamps on Joe Horn today. Horn has been shut down. The Saints are getting 5 yards per carry, though, so they might as well keep running the football. The score is still 9-7, Saints on top.

How long before Maroney wins the Pats starting RB spot outright? Though with the state of the passing game, there's probably plenty of carries for both him and Dillon.

Ah. It's Gus Johnson. 'Nuff said. He's the only play-by-play guy who makes you think Ian Eagle isn't all that bad.

Nantz and Gumbel are fine. Enberg is old and has lost it, but still has the voice and enthusiasm. Kevin Harlan is underrated. But once you get down to Gus Johnson, Ian Eagle and Bill Macatee, the CBS broadcating team is the dregs of the industry. Who exactly do you have to blow to get a PBP job at CBS?

Agreed. That Lelie pass could have been huge though, he was really pretty wide open.

On a related subject, am I the only one who finds the Miller Light commercials with the fake newsconferences stupid? It would have been a lot more funny -- OK, marginally more funny -- if they had used real press conference clips instead of making their own to try and look like they were real.

I completely agree with this. If they're using real clips, it's funny. If they're not trying to make it look like they're using real clips, it's almost funny. To use fake clips and try to make them look real is stupid, though.

At the very least, they seem to be getting worse on pass interference calls. (Or the game is getting too fast to conistently get those right)

They just showed the replay in the Falcons game.

The hit was bad, should have been a penalty probably, but I don't know that it is the blatant suspencion everyone is saying it should be.

Anyway, good to hear that he has feeling.

Finally saw the Green play. That's why the NFL tries to protect the QBs, and they're right to do it. Big time fine, and I think the suspension depends on Green's injuries.

Is there anybody in the NFL as bad as Vick on faking a hand-off? With as much of a run offense the Falcons have, he could just actually fake a hand-off, he'd probably have twice the TD passes.

I don't get this. I just don't think it was THAT bad.. it was borderline timing imo..

penalty worthy, yes.. but "big time fine" i just don't see.. Green was maybe 1/2 second into his slide when the browns guy left his feet.

In fact, the more times I see the replay, I think that they left their feet at the same time basically.

The NFL has fined players pretty liberally for penalties/late hits (even those that aren't penalties). Some of these fines have been ridiculous, i.e. CBs getting fined for punishing, but borderline legal hits on WRs. Here's there's an illegal hit, that injures a QB, and the NFL has a well-publized policy of protecting QBs. I don't think the big fine is in question.

The hit on Green was shoulder-to-chest from the way I see it. If that's the case, it's not a penalty, and I don't really see why a suspension would come either. Geathers was already moving toward Green, and Green slid into him. I find it really hard to apply fault to Geathers here. It was ugly, and it was unfortunate, but I personally don't see how the NFL can punish Geathers with a straight face on this one.
