From one of the reports I read - it was a 62 year old lady, so I doubt she even knew who he was.

Maybe it isn't "smart" riding a bike with out a helmet.
Neither is standing in the packet and getting the ball off with a 320 dt bearing down on you.

It seams to me the same "I am 10 foot tall and bullet proofed" attitude applies to both.

The wearing of a helmet should also apply to both situations.

Standing in the middle of the information super-highway may not be a good idea, with or without a helmet.

Supposedly the knee injuries are not super serious, more like road burn. The Jaw is broken, and he needs a bunch of new teeth. Clayton from ESPN suggested that he would be ready for the season, I'd be happy if he can play again period. I think he's likely to get PUP'd and be ready for week 7.

He should consider himself a very lucky man. I'd be willing to bet major money his next Steelers contract will carry with it a no motorcycle tag and that may apply to any future leader of the team.

getting paid $40 million for standing on the pocket and getting the ball off with a 320 dt bearing down on you = very smart

riding a motorcycle without a helmet.....well, that gets you this:

sorry to offend anyone, but motorcycles are stupid. and states with no helmet laws are even more stupid...i enjoy the fact that i can get a ticket in my 4500 lb pickup truck with airbags and a rollcage for not wearing a seatbelt, but these idiots can ride around at 100 miles an hour with no restraints or protective equipment.

(please note i didnt generalize that all riders are idiots, only the ones that go 100 miles an hour with no helmets, do line-locks, and wheelies on the highway. i think bikes in general are stupid and will never get on one...and if i ever gt the strange desire to, i will just go over to my friend's house, who "celebrated" the 3 year anniversary of losing his left leg from mid-thigh down when a car pulled out in front of him from behind a passing school bus. he wasnt doing anything wrong, was wearing his helmet and protective jacket, and still almost bled to death on the side of the road because MOTORCYCLES ARENT SAFE!)

Summary of this thread:

"Someone almost died...AND I HAD MY WORLD CUP RESULTS SPOILED!!"

hehehe...anyway, I tape a lot of football games, and I know this is forum is more closely related to football than soccer, but when I tape games, and I really don't want to know the results, I don't go to FOFC. And when I do go to FOFC, I do it knowing there's a damn good chance that it might get spoiled for me. Oh, and riding a motorcycle without a helmets is a bad idea. Bad Idea jeans.

If he had a just a regular sportbike type helmet, they are the ones that have the full face to them...lets see....certainly nolaceration to the back of his head...hmm very doubtful on his jaw being broken, and certainly no teeth missing.

Joey Harrington sucked ass, but he wasnt dumb.

It's one of those things, riding is just an exhilarating feeling. People die all sorts of ways, get hurt 1000s of ways, but some smarts go a long way.

1. Take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation rider course
2. Wear protective gear (helmet, jacket, pants, boots, gloves)
3. Obey the speed limit and traffic signs
4. slow down on intersections and crossways
5. If you want to act like a goof, do it on a stretch of highway where there's no traffic.

Who knows, I could get in an accident tomorrow, but I love my bike and I'll do whatever I can to prevent an accident.

Actually one of the stick points of his first contract with the Steelers was their inclusion of a clause regarding riding bikes, and his insistance of it not being there. Ben won.

I remember that people praised them for this, but I'm sure this move was all about the positive PR (public and players relations) buzz.

In his interview he said that he doesnt ride sport bikes, only choppers and harleys. Why in the hell was he on a Suzuki Hyabusa?? I like to think I know my way around the motorcycle world, I may, however, be mistaken, but this is the fastest street bike out there.

That what I've heard too. I've zipped around on a Hyabusa and I tell you what, I'd hate to come off if I wasn't wearing a helmet with the amount of power behind that bike... That Roflmaoburger is still alive is nearly a miracle in itself.

There are plenty of idiots out there driving cars as well, which makes it inherently more dangerous to ride a motorcycle in highly populated areas. Take it out on the county highways, ride in a pack and wear a damn helmet.

Here is an excerpt from the Illinois Rules of the Road:

Quote:
INTERSECTIONS: More than 50 percent of all motorcycle collisions occur at intersections. The most common situation occurs when an oncoming automobile makes a left turn in front of a motorcycle . . .

So not so surprising that he got hit by somebody making a left hand turn.

Dola. From what I've heard the bike was a free gift to him because he did a few promotions for a Suzuki dealership.

I saw Rod Rutherford and some of the "Steelers Basketballers" playing against Seton Hill University faculty and staff. If Rod Rutherford plays pro football the same way he plays basketball against an uncoordinated math professor and a 5'1" female microbiologist, well, you'd better hope he doesn't make the Steelers roster.
