Would love to see Cutler a Viking, but I have a feeling he may slip to them without trading up. Definitely don't want to give up more than a 3rd to get him. (although a trade like yours would not surprise me in the least)

1.11 WR - Haloti Ngata

A 330 lb. WR reciever will be a nightmare matchup. Good pick.

Well, I think there's too many QB-hungry teams in front of them for them to expect him to drop to 1.17. But I hear you.

Excellent! I was a bit afraid that the Ravens might take the guy we really wanted. I'll post the whole analysis of all of the guys I considered later since I don't want to taint the draft.

However, I feel we have one big need, WR. Reggie Brown looks like a potential #1 receiver or at least a VERY good #2 receiver. He has good size, speed, and hands. He made some big plays for us last year. After that, I believe we have a lot of #3 receivers (at best.)

Therefore, I select WR Chad Jackson from Florida. He has size (6'1 213), speed (4.32 in a recent workout), and runs very well after the catch breaking tackles. Explosive burst off the line. He had 88 catches last year, and he has more upside I believe than the other top WR's. He has the potential to be a very good to excellent #1 receiver and give us an excellent pair of young wideouts along with good depth from the other guys on the roster.

(The only thing that worries me is that Florida WR's haven't really done too well in recent years in the NFL.)

I understand where you are coming from with this pick but I'd rather see the defense upgraded here with more help on the D-Line or in the linebacker department. So, if I were picking, I'd be looking at DT Bunkley, OLB Sims, and OLB Greenway...but, that's just me.

I definitely was considering OLB. At DT, I would have preferred Ngata. I think the Eagles could still get a good DT in a later round.

Edited to add: I'll discuss my thoughts more after the mock draft is over or we can chat via PM if you want.

Sorry, didnt expect things to move so fast -

With selection 15, The Denver Broncos select - Santonio Holmes - WR, Ohio State -

Would have liked Cutler or Chad Jackson to fall here, but Holmes strengthens our weakest position. Thinking the Broncos may look at Croyle in the second round.

Going by their formula, I think they'll try and move up to get Ngata. Otherwise Jackson is the best available option, then Greenway. I hope they don't get Sims, he sounds to me like another Simoneauaieua.

With the 49er's coming up in 6 picks, I have four guys who I hope one of them will fall to me.

If they are not there, I would like to trade down to the bottom of the 1st round.

I hope they do move up to get Ngata, especially since they've got an abundance of picks and losing a couple of them really wouldn't hurt at all.

Sims has elite speed, Simoneauaieua's was average at best.

1.16 Dolphins - DT Brodrick Bunkley, FSU

Keith Traylor and Jeff Zgonina are at the ends of there ropes. Manuel Wright was selected last year, but he isn't ready to play full-time yet, and continues to cry about it.. Bunkley will give us another beast in the trenches to free up Zack Thomas for a year or 2 more..

As a Broncos fan, I was hoping Philly would let Jackson fall, too. I have serious questions about Holmes (who would just replace Lelie, leaving us little better than we are now--an old guy and a speed guy), while Jackson looks like he could be groomed to replace Rod Smith in a few. I think the "let's go out and get a midget; I mean, look what Steve Smith can do" mindset is a bad bandwagon to get on. Steve Smith is an unusual talent, and Santana Moss is only one year away from being called a bust. Give me that 6'+ 200 lb wideout with speed over the mighty mouse any day.

With the 18th pick the Buffalo Bills select C Nick Mangold - Ohio State.

Best lineman available and we are weak on the line. Ultimately if I had more time (on vacation so can't check the CPU mich), I would have traded down again to get more picks as all four of the guys I wanted (Bunkley, Justice. Ngata, and Jimmy Williams were taken). I thought for sure one of the DT's would have been there. We need depth so another trade down would have been worth it, especially since Mangold would have been available later.

With the (real) 18th pick, the Dallas Cowboys select DE Manny Lawson, North Carolina State.

Lawson played DE at NC State but he projects to be an 3-4 OLB in the NFL. He will be an upgrade over Al Singleton as he will provide speed off the edge and hopefully will keep opposing blocking schemes honest and not key in on Ware's side.

The Cowboys have other needs but the WR class is weak. The safety class is pretty solid and there should be talent available in the 2nd or 3rd round. OLine depth can also be found in the later rounds.

Yeah I'm good, I just thought Lawson was dropping to the Chargers.
Considering we only have two CB in San Diego I think getting Hill who from what I have read should go higher is a steal.

Sorry for the delay ... we've been in trade negotiations and I've been away this evening since the last few picks were made.

The Chiefs have agreed to a deal with the Detroit Lions and are awaiting league approval. The trade:

Chiefs receive:
2006 2nd round pick
2006 3th round pick (from St. Louis)
2007 3nd round pick

Lions receive:
2006 1st round pick

Explanation: My No. 1 need on the board is corner back. The cornerback pool is pretty deep this year, and I'm willing to take a gamble that a top corner back will still be available when we draft No. 11 in the second round with the Lions' pick. This trade also provides Kansas City with an additional third round pick, which is valuable to the team since we don't have a fourth-round pick this year. And frankly, given the Chiefs success in the middle and later rounds in drafting and lack of success in the first round, I have no problem stockpiling picks in those rounds. I think this deal gives us the opportunity to get a top CB in the second round along with a pass rusher in the second round, then give us two picks in the third where we maybe be able to pick up a quarterback.

Based on the draft pick value chart, I think it's very reasonable and even a great deal for Kansas City. If the Lions' 2007 draft position is No. 23, this trade will be a point-value break even. If the Lions' draft position is earlier than No. 23, the Chiefs will gain. I'm willing to bet that the Lions' will be drafting well before No. 23 next year.

I disagree with this. The NFC North is going to suck this season, and I feel that the Lions will be around 8-8, #16-20.

1.20 - Detroit Lions select - Chad Greenway

I feel good about this pick since I feel that Greenway is only a very slight step down from AJ Hawk in talent, and is actually quite similar. The Lions have had a rash of injury troubles at LB the past two seasons, despite having guys like Boss Bailey and Teddy Lehman at the position. I think this pick will solidify the LB postiion for years to come.

This pick, combined with the Ngata pick, should improve the defense markedly, even this season. I project an OL pick in the 3rd, or perhaps a DB.

Another nice pick. Greenway was the other guy besides Ngata that I think would really help the Eagles' defense.

I really thought Greenway would fall here but I also thought Sims would go a bit higher than Chad, so I'm pretty happy with picking Sims up. Aside from LB, the Pats certainly need DB help as well, but I think Sims' coverage skills can also help the pass defense.

After Greenway was taken and killed my pick, I had a hard time choosing between three guys. I'm interested to see where the other two go though.

1.22- San Francisco 49er's Select CB Antonio Cromartie, Florida State

Even with his ACL injury and not playing for a whole year, he is climbing on top of some draft charts as the best CB in the draft. He definitely has the most potential.

In either case, Cromartie has the size (6'2'' and change), physicalness and speed to be the next Champ Bailey. He is a perfect fit for the 49er's defense and now two of eleven spots on the 49er's defense are locked up for the next five or six years.

1.23 - Bucs select Michael Huff (DB - Texas)

Huff fits a need for the team as the future replacement for Ronde Barber. He is not a pure corner, but neither is Barber as anyone who watches the Bucs scheme -- particularly on 3rd downs -- knows. If the Bucs were to extend the contracts of both Barber and Brian Kelly, Huff also could be moved to SS where he likely could displace Jermaine Phillips who is adequate at best.

IMHO, Huff is the DB most ready to play now in the NFL (so he should get a fair amount of playing time this year), and only Antonio Cromartie has more potential among the DBs. (I had decided to pass on Cromartie's potential, if he had remained available, simply because I don't like taking risks with a first round pick when there is an area of need, but he is certainly a great pick if you are willing to accept the risk.)

When the draft began, I did not even have Huff as a possibility as I never thought he would drop this far and instead might even be a Top 10 pick. I was targeting Ernie Sims (excellent pick by New England at #21) and one other player who, as the draft progressed, I decided I would select unless Huff remained available. Given that the draft is ongoing and that player is still on the board, I won't identify who that is except to say its an offensive lineman (no shock there given the Bucs obvious need at several OL positions).

1.23 - Bucs Revised Pick - Davin Joseph (OG - Oklahoma)

Oops -- how could I have missed that Huff was selected! I should have realized that was too good to be true.

Joseph also fits a need, although a small reach as he might have been available a few picks later. Would replace Mahan almost immediately at one guard position, with Mahan sliding to center to replace Wade.

Anybody want to move up for the last OLB left before the Giants grab him? The Bengals pick is for sale. I'll wait a bit before selecting to field offers.
