I think this is good. Certainly good for hockey in Pittsburgh, which has shown itself to be a good hockey city in the past and is a great sports town. It's good that Crosby is on the East Coast (much more exposure). Also, I should be able to get to see him quite a bit living here in Washington.

But wouldn't you agree that the team will be much healthier with a team that is good? Spiraling salaries killed that team, the cap and a exciting player like Crosby will be a huge boost. Do you think Anaheim desevered to have the 1st pick ahead of Pittsburgh?

glad he didn't go to Carolina or Anaheim. Pittsburgh is a good fit, although I'm already tired of the Lemieux stories.
Would have been even cooler if Jagr still played for Pittsburgh - could have put (arguably) the 3 most talented post-Gretzky forwards on the same line.

Where does Pittsburgh project as far as the cap?
I mean are they going for the minimum? |

The NHL narrowly averts disaster with a final three of Carolina, Anaheim and Pittsburgh.
There could be worse destinations than the Pens... it will be nice to see them back to being competitive.

That was my biggest fear as well. The best moment of the draft was when I heard Carolina called at #3. It wins by a hair over hearing Colorado called at #27.

I agree. If you tell me before the draft that the Islanders beat out the Rangers (our rivals), the Devils (boring-ass shit) AND the Flyers (guy at work is a huge fan so I'm kind of against them now), I'd probably be thrilled, since it would likely mean the Isles were in the Top 10. Alas, it didn't work out. I told the guy at work on Thursday that the place I'd least like to be is between 10 and 20 -- and where do we get? Fucking 15, just to spite me or something.

There has to be SOME offer the Pens would take. I was thinking if Philly came in with something like:
-Carter -Richards -3 1sts -3 2nds that would be very hard for the Pens to turn down.

Money has always worked in baseball. I think Colorado should buy/rent Pittsburgh for a day or two; just long enough to make a trade. Throw some serios $.$$ at the Penguins and see if they blink. yes was part of the Wayne Gretzy trade. he never score 150 points He was drafted #2 by the Kings in 1986 He scored 79 points in his rookie season with the Kings in 1986-1987 he score 107 points in 1987-88 season for the Kings in 1988-1989 he score 100 points for Edmonton after that he was just below normal. so he only put three good seasons together. then the Kings got him back in 1992-1994 from Detroit for Paul Coffey. But Carson suck really bad when he return. A bad trade for the Kings at that time. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...3?pid=00000845 Last edited by jbmagic : 07-23-2005 at 02:40 AM. |

Not necessarily. Where has having a good team gotten the Marlins in the last 2-3 years? Quote:
Gross mismanagement by previous ownership killed that team. Just ask Blackhawk fans how they feel about Wirtz. Quote:
The cap will help, but you still have to spend on the right players, or it's a worthless tool, as the Knicks have shown in the NBA. Quote:
That's kind of a red herring. What does Anaheim have to do with whether or not Pittsburgh, or any other team in the league, deserved to win the lottery? I think the lottery setup was flawed, but you've gotta start somewhere to clean up the shit that the NHL left all over the the place over the last year and a half. |

No. They are still working on getting one, but the main problem is that the Pirates and Steelers both have new stadiums and the city is bankrupt, so who is going to pony up the money for the Pens, especially when they suck? Winning the draft lottery was the best thing to happen to the Pens. Make the team a contender and the money for a new stadium will appear because everyone loves a winner. |
