how will invisible ratings work? Are the scouting reports so detailed that we'll get enough info just from that? I guess my main question is with invisible ratings, do we have enough info on the players to even decide who to start on our own teams, much less on guys to recruit?

Umm.... Maybe we should wait for the game to be released before we start trying to decide what settings to use.

I would believe invisible ratings mean looking at players on teams not your own.

I'm starting to think the bar is too high when I selected USC. Maybe I should have aimed lower, like Standford or UCLA. :P

I'm with you. I guess, in the end, it's cartman's league, but it does seem like there's a lot of people wanting bowls. Maybe we can have a vote, sometime after the game is out, and we know how its bowl system looks. I mean, because if it's like TCY, 1-2, 3-6, 4-7, and 5-8 (or whatever it is), I wouldn't want it, but if there's some semblance of conference tie-ins, I'd like it.

In the public developer chats, Arlie described how the playoffs will works. It will be like this:

Each of the 11 conference winners get an automatic berth. There will be 5 at large bids to make a playoff pool of 16 teams.

For the teams that do not qualify for the playoffs, there will still be bowl games played for them.

Sure, but this gives those of who wish the league were starting now something to talk about.

Not necessarily. People who want bowls are speaking up, because cartman said he was going to do playoffs. You could very well be part of the silent majority.

I definitely prefer playoffs, especially because bowl games will still be available for teams that don't qualify for the tournament.

Cartman-any idea of the time schedule for exports in this league will be? Biweekly? weekly? Thanks

Should be a few weeks as the 3rd quarter ends in 18 days.

Same here. If this is indeed the case, where teams can make the bowls if they don't qualify for the playoffs, then I think that might be the way to go. Does anyone know if you can change the Bowl affiliations in the game?

Ditto. I prefer a real #1 than two voted teams deciding who is #1.

No idea at this time. I'm figuring that one export = 1 week in game time. In real time, I'm figuring 2 or 3 exports per week. But this is all subject to change, once the game is released, and we see how it all works.

I'm not planning on starting up the league until the game has been out for a month or so, to give people time to get used to it.

Maybe I have overlooked it but I do not see Arlie mentioning bowl games for teams not involved in the playoffs in the chat transcript.

This is for every game, no option to have just bowl games or just playoffs or the mix? A playoff with bowl games for non-playoff teams?

I like the bowl games with the playoffs, make the playoffs more acceptable to me for sure. But I pretty much prefer just bowls I guess.

Do we know how the stat-keeping will work in regards to postseason play? If it's like TCY where they don't get broken up, I'd *strongly* prefer bowls only. I don't want to be comparing rushing yards between two backs when one guy has played 16 games and the other has played only 12 (and yes I know about the yards/game stat).

Even if the stats do get broken up, I'd still slightly prefer bowls only.

There's an option to include postseason stats when creating your league. You also have the option of choosing only bowl games or a 16-team playoff using 8 bowl sites with the remaining bowls happening as usual.

If someone else wants to be Tennessee, thats fine. I don't think I'll be buying the game, and likely won't have time to join even if I do get it

There is a league signing up on the GreyDog boards, where you can vote on what system you want. Perhaps one league (this one) will be playoff, and the other (Gridiron Glory) will be bowl.

Set up a poll somewhere, but make sure to put 'Doesn't matter' as a choice. I would prefer bowls, but it's not a make or break decision for me.

Only problem with that might be people voting that don't intend on being in the league. Or did you mean away from this site?

You can do it here...if you're concerned about who is voting, just make it a public poll.

What is the rush? I would think people would want to wait a while to start the league anyway (until we all understand the game mechanics, bugs are fixed, etc..).

And I don't think that a vote right now even makes sense. People's votes will depend on how the bowl system and playoffs actually work in-game. We have no idea how each system will work, so how can we possibly make an informed decision?

Yeah, I know. It's fun to think about and talk about, but I don't want people to start making decisions before we have any idea about the ramifications of the decisions.

One of the things that worked out well for us in the IHOF (even though it wasn't intentional) is the very slow pace in which the league began. In fact, most people thought the league was dead before we even got started. Basically, for awhile we couldn't find a commish.

But what the time lapse did for us was allow all of us to get familiar with the new version of the game, do some testing, let a patch or two to be released, and made for an easier transition into the new world of MP FOF. In fact, some people have stated that they wished they had some more time to learn the nuances of the game (especially in regards to the preference draft settings) before we began.

I think it will be important, especially since this is a brand new game, to take our time and not jump into the start of the league just because we're all excited about it. Bad decisions early on can hurt the league for years, or forever. That's all.
