I have another solution for this -- everyone let me know what you think. I will take control of the Germans. I will research NOTHING. Build NOTHING. Sharon can build the warrior and come over and kill them, and I won't stop it. It's a backhanded method of eliminating the civ, but again, Sharon shouldn't have to be in a race like this, since it's not fair to her. The only thing I would ask is for her to raze the city, not conquer it. That way it remains fairer -- she'll get bonus points for destroying a civ, but that's to be expected. Sound ok?

I sent out a test email turn notification to the whole group, so if you have an extra turn notification for 3880 BC, that's the reason.
Anyway, new turn is up and ready to go.

EDITED to make sense:
At the time of this writing, 9:37 AM EST, the following people have taken their turn (3790 BC): Me GStelmack Miller Time My CPU rebooted itself after checking for windows updates, so check and make sure you've taken your turn. It autosaves at the beginning of each turn, but not again (automatically) until the NEXT round The last person who took their turn last round may have had their turn erased for this round, so check just in case.

I thought something was screwy. I was certain I made my move for this turn early on Monday. I checked back late Monday and saw that the game was waiting on both me and Jeeber. I'm guessing Jeeber already took his turn and is waiting for the email to tell him the next turn is ready, but since the CPU rebooted he actually has NOT made his turn. This should have been posted as an email. edit: JeeberD re-took his turn (my suspicions above were correct) with about 1 hour remaining on the clock. We're back in business!

I doubt you are. Remember, the 24 hour clock is there for a reason. We're getting a minimum of a turn a day, which is pretty good in comparison to most leagues. I wouldn't worry about holding things up.
If anyone is holding things up, it's me and my stupid computer losing connection. I'm trying to do some things that'll fix that, so my apologies.

After a very short down-time, the game is back online. So take your turn if you weren't able to in the past hour.

FYI - Sharon whacked Bismark. Doesn't appear to have boosted her score any or anything.

We're at 3700. We're averaging a little over a turn a day, and Germany has already been eliminated. Things are moving fairly smoothly, and the email turn notification is working.
So far, despite my CPU dying a few times, it's going fine as far as I'm concerned. So what does everyone else think?

While you're here, Eric...
I'm trying to set up our PBEM as a Pitboss as we speak. But how in the heck do I find out my SMTP info? I entered in my IP there but when I try to connect I'm not having any luck...

Don't add your SMTP in Pitboss -- it's in beta, and doesn't work. I can send you the turn notification program. How you get it your SMTP settings? You have to access your POP3 settings. I dunno what it is from hotmail. It's usually smtp.SERVERNAME.com.

OK, so tell me what I'm doing wrong...
I start up the Pitboss.exe I choose "None" for mod I'll go ahead and leave all the SMTP stuff blank Choose "Direct IP" for network Choose "Load game" and select the last file you sent me And then this screen comes up What do I have to do from there? If I try to connect it times out on me...

Bad News ...
I've been told that as of now, you cannot convert PBEM games to Pitboss, but that several people are trying to make mods that will allow it.
They're also saying that when the Pitboss goes out of beta, this option will be available. :-(

I just took my turn, which flipped it to the next turn. I took that one too.
I'm really enjoying this so far. Just out of curiousity, though...what happens if the time limit is reached for any given day?

Who do you see?
On a side note, I have decided to rename my capital city Nintendo, in honor of one of Japan's greatest exports. My second city will be called Sega, but it will probably fail.

Me, too. I'll check back after the kids are in bed. So far, I am REALLY enjoying this. Slow-paced enough for me to pay attention, but a nice clip of 1-2 turns a day to keep interest up.

dola --
I think I'm either on an island, or have a large mountain range that cuts me off from the rest of the world. I have a large area, it seems, all to myself, only accessable via boat. I like it. Do the rest of you prefer to be segregated from the rest of the civs or do you like more room for expansion?

I haven't played much multiplayer yet, so I don't have a handle on what I prefer there. In solo play, I like to be cut off from the AI civs.

Our warrior roams the wilderness aimlessly, hoping the natives will point him in the right direction. Meanwhile, our commoners try to teach themselves which end of the pointy thing to stick the other guy with.

Well, I think I'm in a good place. I'm at the end of a large pennisula, with a fair amount of space to work with, a nice river running through it, and it's got a mountain range protecting me from the other civs. So, it seems the only access the other civs will have to Japan will be through boats, and that's a good thing.
Has anyone made contact with other civs yet?

my capital city is protected by lots of Tundra. Which isn't exactly something that excites me.

I'm gonna toss out an idea here to pick up the pace a bit, just for the next few turns. Not suggesting we do this regularly, just right now since we all have only one or two units to move anyway, and turns take only a couple minutes. If we could all arrange to be online at the same time for even just a half hour, we could probably get through at least 5-10 turns, maybe more. If we had an hour, even better. I know there's little chance that 11 people can coordinate to be online at the same time, and if its not all 11 of us it won't work. But maybe if we could post the times we'd be available and willing to play, we'd find some overlap. Again, its not likely to work, but I want to give it a try.
I have a very flexible schedule, and can arrange to be online at virtually any time everyone else agrees upon. But I'll suggest friday, saturday, or sunday evening June 9, 10, 11 from 8pm to 1am EST.

Friday and Sunday evenings I'm working, and Saturday night I already have plans to go out...
Good times for me would be today, tomorrow, or Friday from say 8am to probably 5pm (central time)... Mr Stelmack, sir, I thiink we should join forces and take over the WORLD! Uhhh...did I just say that in front of everybody?
