I love this little bit from BP because it's what I thought last night when McCarver and Buck were just gushing:

Yeah but that invariably leads to the fingernails-on-chalkboard sounds of bitching about how officiating cost someone a title that no one wants to hear and simply isn't true. Wow, the same dude caught both Berk's eighth inning grand slam and Burke's 18th inning homer! Talk about being a lucky SOB...
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3389349 Lucky fan is twice in the right spot By LEE CEARNAL Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Chris Burke's homer might not have been the only history-maker in Sunday's 18-inning victory over the Atlanta Braves. The fan who caught it — Shaun Dean of Porter — also caught Lance Berkman's grand slam shot in the eighth. Dean, 25, was sitting in the second row of the Crawford boxes. A client had given tickets to Joslin Construction, where he is comptroller. "I never caught one in a game before," he said. But with one out in the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Astros down 6-1, Berkman hit his line drive. Fortunately, Dean was wearing a glove. "It came right at me," he said, "I just reached over and caught it." Later — about three hours — Burke came to the plate with two out in the 18th. When he connected, the drive was not on as direct a line as Berkman's but Dean said "it was all just a blur ... (it) came more toward my father-in-law, and he just leaned over and I reached down and caught it." Soon afterward, "an usher came down and talked to me." He told Dean that the Astros normally offer cash and other considerations to fans who return special home-run balls to the players who hit them. He said he probably would give the ball to Burke, since the homer made history, for the club and for Major League Baseball, since it ended the longest playoff game ever. On the way out of the park, Dean was an instant celebrity. "Everyone was congratulating me, patting me on the back," he said. "I had several people say I should buy a lottery ticket or go to Vegas."

Who cares about 1985, it's water under the bridge. Instead of bringing him up in this thread, why not say yep, we have 1985! I sincerely hope that the Royals can right their ship, great ballpark there and I really wish they had gone to the NL instead of the Brewers. That would have been a great rivalry.

I know I grab tickets to one of the interleague games every year. Easily tops the "If I can only go to one game this year" list. Thankfully, I don't have that list and can go to ~10 games a year.

Wait a minute. MLB juggled the 4 matchups of the divisional series so that there were little overlaps (if I recall). Now with only 2 games on tap, they scheduled them at the same time?!?!? WTF.

I guess you're talking about Crede's play in Chicago; I don't think it was *that* bad a play. It took a perfect catch 'n' throw from Anderson to get him, and late in a low scoring game it makes sense to take a few chances on the bases.

Good game, Cards. Carpenter was on and you managed to hit Petitte.
However, we lost that game with our crappy batting with men in scoring position

Totally fucking bullshit. It's unfortunate they just didn't get the last out and settle the game fairly in extra innings.

Prznski swung and missed, ran to first even though Paul had cleanly caught the ball and rolled it towards the mound and the Angels jogged off the field. Umpires stood around confused, eventually called him safe on first. I don't say this often, but that crew chief should be fired. |

The worst part about it is that the 3rd base ump should have been consulted earlier. By the time they did, it was so long after the call, he couldn't reverse it and make the guy look like an idiot.
