Quality of possession provides victory
Diss Town 2 - 0 Bridgnorth Town (Eastern Counties Premier)

A highly polished performance from the Diss Town players saw their team earn a 2 - 0 win over Bridgnorth Town at Brewers Green Lane.

Diss finally took the lead when veteran striker Paul Furlong scored a placed shot in the 48th minute. Midfielder Aaron Allanson finally rounded off their victory in the 78th minute with an effort from the edge of the area.

Attendance: 210

Furlong's header was a thing of beauty and it was nice to see over 200 in the stadium.

Thackley profit from wasteful Tangerines
Thackley 5 - 2 Diss Town (Eastern Counties Premier)

Despite having the better of the match at Dennyfield, Diss Town were unable to profit as they went down to Thackley. The greater incisiveness of the victors resulted in a comfortable 5 - 2 scoreline against Diss, who failed to turn their superior possession into goals. Two goals from Kyle Fores-Chambers helped Thackley to victory.

Things did not get off to a good start for Diss as young centre-back John Bowen seized on an error by Matty Hemsley to score a real poacher's effort. An error from Jason Houghton allowed striker Kyle Fores-Chambers to score a freak goal. Fores-Chambers was able to keep his composure to score from the spot after Hall gave away a penalty. Striker Duncan Willetts then added to the lead with a glorious lob over the keeper in the 43rd minute.

Young striker Scott Poole pulled one back for Diss after 46 minutes with a screamer from the edge of the area. McNeil then increased Thackley's advantage further with a well timed close range finish in the 48th minute.

Poole managed to pull one back for Diss after 59 minutes with a placed shot but it was to be nothing more than a consolation.

Attendance: 249

We were wore out, torn down and could not convert on our chances. This was the worst the defense has played all season long. Hopefully it doesn't dash our chances at promotion.

Diss lucky to draw
Diss Town 0 - 0 Hadleigh United (Eastern Counties Premier)

Following their 0 - 0 draw with Hadleigh United at Brewers Green Lane, an ex-Diss player claimed that his former team must improve if they are to succeed this season.

The first incident of note was on 80 minutes as Hadleigh were denied claims by Ryan Fox for a penalty. Then followed controversy as Hadleigh were denied claims by young full-back Liam Coyne for a penalty.

Diss were carved open a number of times but despite the ability of their opponents to create chances, they struggled to put them away.

Attendance: 157

Uggh, still tired and I don't know if we can pull ourselves out of it. We have a match against the 1st place New Mills in 4 days and I am hoping we can pull our heads out and play amazing for it.

Steve Higgs has been pretty brilliant for his young age and I am happy to have been getting the production I have out of the older guys, I think I have found the good mix for these lower levels, but the competition is getting a little tougher the deeper we go into the cups because we are just worn out.

Diss Town were held to a drew by New Mills in a close fought Easter Counties Premier match player at Church Lane.

Diss were often prevented from playing as they wanted to due to the number of fouls committed by their enthusiastic opponents

Attendance: 99

In all honesty, we were wore out. The only player rested was GK Matt Bowles. The rest of the team were tired and wore out and it showed, sad thing is with New Mills holding the possession we still had 3 shots bounce off the posts and missed the follow up.

Next match is against Kings Lynn in 4 days at their place.

Diss miss chance to win
Kings Lynn 0 - 0 Diss Town (Eastern Counties Premier)

Diss Town fans will have been frustrated by their teams 0-0 draw with Kings Lynn. In the 62nd minute their were shouts among the Diss team, with Josh Clover being the loudest for the foul which would have set up a PK.

Attendance: 17

Well, we missed a lot of shots are still wore out and I do not think we can hang with the remainder of the schedule even though we sit out 2 points from promotion playoff.

Our next match is a Norfolk Senior County Cup against Scole United.

Job Offer (Reading, Coca Cola Championship)

Rumor had it that Reading chairman Ron Young was in the stands for the Kings Lynn game...well, I noticed him there, it wasn't to hard to miss him.

The next day he made an appearance just outside my flat.

"Dennis, I need to speak with you for a second."

"Yeah, sure thing" I said, a little nervous, not sure what was going on....I know they sacked their coach but I figured I was going to be tabbed for an assistant spot.

"Listen up, I have been following your rise, skill set and how you have managed to bring Diss up to where they are and fighting for a spot at potential promotion, I would love to see your talent running my club."

"What...you mean...you mean managed Reading?"

"Yeah, it's the only club I refer to as mine."

"I'm honored sir..I don't know what to say...I do owe a lot to Diss and my mate that runs the club, Nick....he will fight to keep me."

"I know, it's what I figured and we are prepared to offer a tidy sum for you...just wanted to gauge the interest before I have the offer faxed on over."

"Well, its there...let me see what you are offering and I will get back with you."

He turns to leave and I hear him "The fax should be on your desk by the time you get there."

I hurry to my office, not wanting to wait around..bypassing players, coaches and fans ignoring everyone. I fumble with my keys in a hurry to open the door, wanting to see what is offered.

I rush to the fax machine and there it is, hanging out of the machine.....

Mr. Dennis Thomas,

The Reading Football Club are extending to you an offer to be their manager and guide the club to promotion or at least a winning and profitable place in the Coca-Cola Championship.

The terms we are prepared to offer you are for three years at $2,200/week. On top of that you will have a transfer budget of $425,000 and a weekly payroll budget of $200,000.

We look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible as we are not able to leave this offer on the table for long as we are needing to fulfill this position as quickly as we can.

Best Regards,

Ron Young

I sit there...an income of $114,000 yearly compared to what I am making right now close to $10,000 plus a chance to manage at a very top...competitive level.

Alright everyone...I need the vote....

1) Sign with Reading

2) Stick with Diss

3) Delay with Reading and see if Diss ponies up anything. Which I will sign with Diss if they do.

Depends on what your goal for this dynasty is, for me. If your goal is the story of Dennis Thomas the football manager, then absolutely go to Reading for the huge push up. If it's more about the team Diss FC and it's owner and the story behind all that, then stick with Diss.

Want to see Diss up the league structure or see you up the league structure?

I have been doing a lot of walking this night after receiving the fax, I have to call Nick and talk to him, but I also have to formulate a game plan. I grab my cell and punch him up on my speed dial.

"Dennis, you in the poke and need me to bail you out?" what a way to answer the phone, I guess it's what I get for calling him at 2 am.

"Naw Nick, I need to talk to you though, I have some pressing stuff on my mind."

"It's Reading isn't it?"

"What? How did you know?"

"Ron called me and told me he was extending an offer to you, I told him he was wasting his time, you would stick with me and he laughed and said he would be able to get you, so how large was the offer to get you to stroll, think and call me at 2 am?"

"About a $100,000 more than what you are paying me."

"Whew, I don't blame you" I can hear the tension in his voice on the other end, the weariness, the defeat. "So when are you going to head to Reading?"

"Well Nick, see that's the thing. I don't think I am. Honestly, you encouraged me to do this. You then followed up, bought the team and have been very free with what I do and how I do it. I think loyalty is called for here."

"What? Are you serious? I would take the money and run! The board won't do anything until the end of the season, and they may do nothing there! Dennis, you are crazy!" I can hear the relief in his voice, but why the hell is he telling me to take the money?

"Nick, the sites are doing fine for me, my family is helping fulfill the orders, the dropshippers are happy. the money is enticing but it's not why I am doing this wholly. I am here to take Diss as high as I can or until you and the board decide I can't. I am sticking with Diss."

"Haha, have you told Reading yet?"

"No, I asked for a week to think about it and they were ok with that."

"Dennis."

"Yes?"

"Thanks for hanging with us, I promise I will reward you when I can."

"I know Nick, we just need to wake these guys up and get them rested so we can win promotion."

With that, we say our goodbyes and I head home, knowing I am going to sleep better, knowing in a world of greed I was able to overcome the foul temptress and make the right decision based upon loyalty.

Despite Diss Town's comfortable 3-0 victory over Scole United, Some experts were unimpressed with the manner of victory, with the underdogs causing Diss far more problems than had been expected. Two goals from Steve Higgs helped Diss to victory.

Higgs scored two goals while our young striker Mickey Burns finally got in to give some rest to our vets and he netted his first goal for us.

We are on to the semi's against Swaffham in the Norfolk cup and we play Walsham in 3 days time at home.

Diss Town were held to a draw by Walsham in a close fought Eastern Counties Premier match.

Diss were often prevented from playing the way they wanted to due to the number of fouls by their opposition.

Again, we are just plain old worn out. Some of the strikes from our MF were not powerful at all and the ones by the strikers rebounded off the post. Another match we should have won.

The major loss is veteran striker Paul Furlong and his injury today as he will be out for 2 to 3 weeks, missing the remainder of the season.

Our next match is a FA Vase cup againt Hythe & Dibden at their pitch in 3 days.

Diss Town could count themselves somewhat fortunate to have escaped with a draw against Hythe & Dibden in their FA Vase 4th round game at the Ewart Recreation Ground.

Winger Jason Futcher gave Hythe & Dibden the lead with a weak close range effort in the 37th minute. Young striker Steve Higgs then equalized for Diss after 62 minutes with a real poachers effort.

Attendance: 127

We were lucky to bring this back home with a replay. I have give the boys a week off of training hoping the rest will help. Higgs goal ends up being his 20th of the season so far.

Our fans weren't happy with the result because we were picked to slaughter these guys. We are just tired.

I think Reading is hoping to find that diamond in the rough for a Head Coach as their new hire was from a Division 10 club. interesting, I am going to be keeping my eyes on the club to see where he takes them.

Dominant Diss steal penalty win

(Diss won 5-3 on penalties)

Diss Town taught Hythe & Dibden a lesson in the English FA Vase Fourth Round at Brewers Green Lane this afternoon by holding their nerve when it really mattered

In the shootout that followed it was left to yon centre-back Paul Hall to keep a cool head and smash home the winning penalty for Diss.

Diss had more of the ball, which was to force their opponents into shooting from long range when they saw an opening.

Attendance: 130

What a match, we had to goals called back due to offsides. GK Matt Bowles blocked a shot and scored his PK in succession to set this up. Paul Hall received the Man of the Match and I truly think it should have gone to Matt Bowles.

With the win we face Abbey Hey in the 5th round. Our next match is an Eastern Counties Premier match against Debenham at home in 4 days. We need the win as we sit 5 points outside of 2nd place.

This was a needed win as it puts us 3 points closer to the 2nd place spot, which we are shooting for. I think New Mills has captured 1st place and has held on to it for the entire season.

We could not generate an offense as I had to bring in the backups to play. Another rough match that I think may have set us outside of promotion...if not, it means we have to win out.

Matt Bowles played an amazing game taking the barrage of shots meanwhile our 1 of our 2 shots that mattered went in, while the other one was right off the top bar.

Clive Moyo Modise is sucking it up and having a major issue trying to score, I am getting close to calling him out in the press hoping that forces him to wake up, if not..he will be sent packing.

Diss were often prevent from playing as they wanted to due to the number of fouls committed by their enthusiastic opponents.

This win puts us into the FA Vase Qtr finals. Scott Poole finally breaks his drought and begins to recover his confidence.

Our next match is an Eastern Counties Premier away match against Bridgnorth in 4 days. We should have our 2 veteran players back in the striker spot.

The first incident of note was on 25 minutes as Bridgnorth were denied claims by Simon Stevenson for a penalty. An error from Sam Watts allowed veteran striker Paul Furlong to score a freak goal.

Both teams had a number of attempts at goal, which promised much much, but the quality of finishing was poor throughout.

Wow, this win was needed and we sit only 4 points away from that coveted 2nd place spot. It was nice to see both the vets back out there and playing and having Paul and his powerful shot out there was awesome.

Our next match is the Norfolk Senior Cup Semi Final match against Swaffham at their field in 3 days.

I was just happy to get away with the win considering we lost Paul Furlong again, this time for up to 10 days due to a groin strain. With how worn out the team is I have brought some of the youth up and getting them in allowing me to move some of the players around in different positions to help out.

Our replay against Swaffham is rained out and rescheduled for March 2nd (it's Feb 19th right now). It's nice because we get a full week of rest between matched but then the schedule gets congested.

Diss Town 1 - 0 Arnold Town (Eastern Counties Premier)

Diss Town battled to a deserved 1-0 victory over Arnold Town an a fine spring afternoon in their Easter Counties League match at Brewers Green Lane.

The first incident of note was on the 65th minute as Diss were denied claims by Oliver Wheatley-Jones for a penalty. With the game nearing the end, it was Josh Clover who scored a close range header to give Diss the lead in the 90th minute.

Clover's impact delighted the fans with his late goal.

Diss covered a lot of ground but also gave up far to many fouls, meaning their effort was often for nothing.

Another win we needed that sets us up for the 2nd place spot as we are now only 1 point away from taking it over. The guys loved the rest, in fact I think it took an edge off of them. Next match is 4 days against Harwich back at Brewers Green Lane.

Diss Town 4 - 0 Harwich & Parkeston (Eastern Counties Premier)

A close fought game at Brewers Green Lane ended in a one-sided result as Diss Town defeated Harwich & Parkeston 4-0. Two goals from Clive Moyo Modise helped Diss to victory.

Things did not get off to a good start for Harwich as striker Clive Moyo Modise seized on an error by Neil Allan to score a real poachers effort. Roberts had no trouble scoring from the spot when O'Donnell gave up a penalty. An error from Jon Franks allowed Moyo Modise to score a powerful effort. Young striker Scott Poole complete the rout with a placed shot in the 89th minute.

Attendance: 166

The boys told me they wanted to secure 2nd with a lot of noise and that they did...they are starting to climb up and crest right now. I think it has to do with some talented additions I have managed to bring in over the past week at the midfield / winger spot and defense. They meshed right with the club.

As for transfers I am looking for some younger talent to go with the Poole, Higgs and Modise because I see Furlong and Robinson retiring at the end of the season...In fact I plan on offering Furlong a coaching position.

3 days rest and we then face Wooton BC in the FA Vase qtr final match at Brewers Green.

Diss Town 2 - 1 Wootton Blue Cross (FA Vase Qtr Final)

Diss Town recorded a somewhat fortuitous win over Wootton Blue Cross on a fine spring afternoon at Brewers Green Lane.

Experienced striker Anthony Robinson got Diss off to a flying start by scoring an effort from the edge of the area after just one minute. With Wootton BC staring at defeat, there was controversy as young winger Michael Peel then had a penalty shot turned down.

Striker Paul Hope then equalized for Wootton BC in the 30th minute with a real poachers effort. Jones was able to keep his composure to score from the spot after Pegler gave away a penalty.

Attendance: 142

Well, I will tell you this much..I don't mind the win and going deeper in the FA Vase but losing wouldn't have bothered me here. It was nice to see Robinson contribute again.

With us playing the Vase while the rest of the division played against each other we saw our placement drop down to 4th...however only a couple of points now keep us from the 1st place spot as New Mills has been in a downward spiral of late.

Next up is our Norfolk Senior Cup Semi Final at home against Swaffham.

Diss Town 4 - 0 Swaffham Town (Norfolk Senior Cup Semi Final)

The final score of 4-0 didn't flatter Diss Town as they totally controlled their Norfolk County FA Senior Cup Semi Final game against Swaffham Town at Brewers Green Lane.

Furlong had no trouble in scoring from the spot when Wright gave up a penalty. With Swaffham staring at defeat, there was controversy as young winger Keith Nicholls had a penalty shot turned down.

Furlong saw a penalty beat the keeper but hit the post at the 20 minute mark allowing the shot to bounce off of young goalkeeper Mark Williams which added to the misery. Higgs score with a placed shot in the 69th minute to extend the lead further.

Experienced striker Anthony Robinson completed the rout with a placed shot in the 84th minute.

Attendance: 146

Wow, I think the veterans are definitely in form as they forced the two penalties in the box and there were two more that could have been called as well.

I think Swaffham was tired and worn out and just not ready for this match.

3 days of rest and onto Woodbridge, which will be at Brewers Green Lane.

Lucky Diss celebrate unlikely victory
Diss Town 1 - 0 Woodbridge Town (Eastern Counties Premier)

Lady luck smiled on Diss Town this afternoon as they somehow managed to snatch an unlikely 1-0 victory against Woodbridge Town.

The match began in controversy with Diss seeing a goal disallowed in controversial circumstances. This was followed up as Diss were denied claims by young striker Scott Poole for a penalty.

Diss continued to push for another penalty as striker Anthony Robinson asked for another. An error from Paul Liddle allowed midfielder Paddy Mumbley to score a freak goal.

Attendance: 198

Well, the team was working hard, pushing the limits of their acting and almost getting 3 different chances for the penalties. Mumbley's goal was definitely controversial as the replay showed him behind the line and definitely offside.

The win sets us in 1ST PLACE! We are tied with New Mills for points with 62 and the autopromote is now in our hands. With five ECP matches left we are now officially in the drivers seat for where we finish.

We head back to Woodbridge in 4 days, then on to Wroxham after that.

Woodbridge Town 1-0 Diss Town (Eastern Counties Premier)

Woodbridge Town's fans left Notcutts Parkwondering quite how their team had only managed to win 1-0.

Young striker David Llewellyn gave Woodbridge the lead with a real poacher's effort in the 36th minute.

Diss were carved open a number of times but despite the ability of their opponents to create chances, they struggled to put them away.

Attendance: 102

Dominated in possession again. We are giving the ball up, acting disinterested out there. We were lucky that everyone else up top lost this week or we would have dropped. Instead we still sit at 1st tied with New Mills at 62 points.

Diss Town could count themselves somewhat fortunate to have escaped with a draw against Wroxham in their English Counties League Premier Division game at Trafford Park.

Young midfielder Josh Clover gave Diss the lead with a long range freekick in the 25th minute. With Wroxham staring at defeat, there was controversy as young striker Tom Boden then had a penalty shot turned down.

Wroxham were nearly gifted a goal in the 48th minute after Matt Bowles' lapse in concentration, but they failed to capitalize on the opportunity present to them. Young centre-back James Leach equalized for Wroxham in the 69th minute with a close range header.

Diss midfielder Callum Kearns' red card for persistent fouling in the 90th minute put Diss' position under question.

Attendance: 155

Honestly, we were equal in possession but they had the better options towards goal. They shut us down. The red card Callum received was utter BS as it was handed out as just before time expired.

The tie still gave us a point and we are now sitting in 1st with 63 points, one point ahead of 2nd.

After a 1-1 draw at Elsaforde Park against Diss Town, a key member of Sleaford Town claimed that his team were fortunate to escape from the game with a draw. The match was certainly not one for the purists with neither team able to keep the errors out of their game.

Sleaford's Sam Clark received the red card for a professional foul with 29 minutes on the clock. Diss were nearly handed the lead in the 35th minute after John Stein's lapse in concentration but failed to capitalize. Vine had no trouble scoring from the spot when Wheatley-Jones gave up the penalty.

Young Striker Steve Higgs then equalized for Diss after 82 minutes with a well timed close range finish.

Attendance: 160

The boys are just not into it...their heart they had is gone right now. I don't know what to say. An 11 on 10 advantage from most of the match and we couldn't do a thing about it. At the beginning, it would have been murder, as of recent they have lost their killer instinct.

Up next is an away match against Kirkley & Pakefield. We get a week long break because our game against Dereham was rained out (water logged pitch).

We should have had this match. But the foundation of our team, the defense has disappeared. They have been top notch since the beginning of the season, and without the offensive output happening that we have been used to, we are drawing games or losing ones we shouldn't.

Not only did Matt hit the game winning penalty shot, he stopped the shot right before to set it up for the win. So we wait to see who we play in the Vase final as it will be either Shirebrook or Hartley Wintney with Shirebrook holding the 2-1 lead over Hartley Wintney.

Well, I think we have finally sunk to our low as a team. The morale isn't bad some of the players are letting the pressure get to them but others aren't. The error by Matt was him not holding onto the ball tight enough as he came down with it allowing the striker to kick it out.

Hopefully they were looking ahead to our next match because that is the Norfolk Senior Cup Final against Thetford.

Quality of possession provides victory
Diss Town 3 - 0 King's Lynn (Eastern Counties Premier)

A highly polished performance from the Diss Town players saw their team earn a 3-0 win over King's Lynn.

Young centre-back Steve Lyons showed a sign of things to come though as he nearly gifted Diss a goal in the 11th minute. An error from Graeme Lancaster allowed young midfielder Josh Clover to score a real poachers effort. Young striker Steve Higgs doubled Diss' lead with a placed shot in the 45th minute.

The followed controversy as Diss were denied claims by winger Lee Smyth for a penalty. Things went from bad to worse for King's Lynn Reserves as young midfielder Sam Hunter earned himself an early shower for persistent fouling in the 56th minute.

Young striker Onome Ogaga completed the rout with a real poacher's effort in the 75th minute.

Attendance: 209

Onome Ogaga was our newest acquisition and is honestly our most talented striker now. He is definitely going to be Furlongs replacement next season. This win was needed and it helps set up an exciting finish for the season.

Our next and final Eastern Counties match is in a week against Shifnal at home. However, we are tied with Shifnal at 72 points where we hold the tie breaker right now and 1st place. A loss and we could drop to 4th and out of promotion altogether. So it's a win or bust for this game.

I have been extremely proud of this team and how they performed. I was getting slightly concerned about how they were performing down the stretch.

We do have one last final match...the FA Vase Final, I want to win this match bad. Winning 2 cups and a promotion will set us up for the next season quite well.
